Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I arrived in the Witch Head two hours after I got off work this morning. My goal: to be a can of Raid; to destroy the Bugs. I kill Scouts effortlessly. I have not defeated a Cyclops yet, but I am confident in my skills.

But after Jumping the Bonaventure into the Witch Head well...
I like AX combat. It is one of the best parts of ED. I have not claimed an Interceptor yet, but I will, in the future. Since the CG was announced, I was jazzed - THIS is my chance! THIS is my chance to REALLY take it to the 'goids!
And so I prepared to do exactly that.

But...

As Xeno's Paradox left my Carrier, as we departed to go KILL well...
Actually, I dunno. When it came right down to that exact moment, I found I wasn't really into it. I have NO sympathy, feeling or interest in the Bugs; I WOULD like to one day place my name in the rolls of the AXI Squadron.
Hell - let's be honest. I really want to fly beside Commander Byrne as wingmate and student. I lust to learn from the best and Kate IS the best.
But...well...
For the past few months, my personal mission has been to fly the borders of the PFZ. Outfitted for PvP; Xeno's Paradox has patrolled the borders of the Pilot's Federation Shallow End searching for new players on their Out Mission; offering protection, help and advice.

So today I scrambled from my Carrier, happy to take the fight to the 'Goids. I dropped in and scanned the Nav, then aimed for the nearest Level-5...and pulled up.

Because while I DO enjoy AX combat, right now it's not what I want to do. Fighting gives me great pleasure. But what I LOVE is helping, answering questions, encouraging and supporting. Giving new players the meagre advice I can give from my own experience.

So I retracted my weapons, returned to the Bonaventure and set it to a destination right outside the PFZ.
You guys go kill the Hypercaffienated Space Crickets. It'll be my turn soon enough.
Just right now, some newcomer is confused and uncertain.
That is where my duty lies.

Commendable.

What you could do, is have another account and join newcomers in their Sidey's and new player zones, offering advice along the way. Just an idea ;)

The Tri2 spot I found was odd. My first sojourn into it yielded excellent results. I had to log off and left my miner in the ring. When I got back and continued, the amount of tritium I was mining had halved

So, I've just made a few million exploring (found and mapped another ELW - \o/ ) and have returned to the carrier, awaiting another jump. At this rate, it'll be a while before the bubble even get's close. I'm quite eager to get there though; I really want to stock up on fuel and head in a out away from the direction of Colonia. However, I know there's massive permit wall out there so want to avoid that.

An idea I've been considering. I kinda miss Mawson Dock - I left Dromi several years ago thinking I'd come back. When I left, I didn't know what the Out Mission was.
To do so would be to buy an alt - and I don't want to put too fine a point on it but in RL luxuries have to be VERY carefully considered.
Besides, I kinda like hunting the new guys - finding them. It's a small thrill to see a hollow square with a rank of 'Harmless' and contacting them. :)

Do you need to buy an alt? Can't you just re-download to another commander name without rebuying the game?

Maybe my thinking is flawed though; someone else should be able to re-align my befuddled thought processes.
As far as I know, the only way to return to the PFZ on this account is to delete my character and start afresh - and that ain't happenin'. ;)
I can buy the game again using a different E-mail and thus create a new alt.
I'm not up on the details and haven't really tried to learn. In THIS reality, I can fly right to the borders of PFZ space and find the newer folks who still think 'the next jump' is a long way. :)
Just like we did, when WE passed that border.

Nothing but us chickens out here. ;)
Take your time coming back - after weeks in the Big Black adjusting to the Bubble takes a bit of work. :)

Shame you missed out on Steam selling Elite Dangerous for a fiver last week - full price again at the moment (as is the Frontier Store version - not seen a sale in the store in over a yonk and a quarter).
Oh dammit did I miss the latest sale?
Not that it matters; if I have just enough money to buy flour, then i bake bread - as I have done for the past two weeks. Gaming is a luxury - and at my level of income a rather significant one.

Bought a Type 9. Called it Dog's Body and delivered 750 tonnes of leaflets for the Blue Princess. New Shields next week.I've parked up for the night now and transferred back to the Culture Vulture (yes it really is). The Type 9 is too cold and empty to stay the night in, plus if I sleep in it I have nightmares about flyng into stars.

Just dropped off 720 tonnes too, but got more waiting time to get those shields. I should get a Type 9 just for this, but really didn’t enjoy my brief time in one.

Did also manage to squeeze in some Imperial missions too, crawling towards Prince...

And a first for me - got interdicted and didn’t turn tail. I’d just fitted Plasma Accelerators for fun, so was quite amusing to see the varmint scamper.

I fitted mines and missiles to the T9, just in case. Didn't have a use for them though, not sure I would have survived a chase either way in a T9 with 5A shields.

Upon entering this system:

"Fuel scooping complete"
"Temparature critical"

Eh? Pitch up! Pitch up! Full powah to engines! Quick! Nearly fried the dilithium crystals.

Trying to fight Cyclops. Struggling.
A need to shoot the thingy with the wotsit launcher (flips frantically through manual while ship melts).
Swarm, shoot the flak launcher at the swarm.
Can't hit the little beggers

Might have to change the AX Conda name to 'Will Robinson'.
'Danger! Warning! Overheat! Hull integrity! Canopy! Klaxons, flashing lights and diverse alarums! :ROFLMAO:
Personally, I'm still friendly with the Thargoids, as they haven't done anything but scan me, and according to Kant that is ok because I also scan them. However, I have been watching a few videos of people fighting Thargoids, and it seems that the trick with the swarm is to run away, flip the ship 180 and then shoot at them while having throttle in reverse. Kind of like doing reverskis in front of a ganker, while emptying your cargo filled with biowaste (there is a binding for that ;))

In LHS 2405 sitting on my carrier next to the first moon at good couple of RES[high] with small to medium elites, lots of elite eagles around here.
Slow progress, currently only 15% deadly. 1% per session in the res. So it's 75 sessions over 75 hours? or 75 days? or 75 months to get to Elite combat ranking....just killed Guybrush Threepwood ... again....

Not finding the carrier and mining and trading working at all how I would like. How does bulk hauling in a carrier work?
Random 20mil crd deals are rare for me. Contemplating parking it here as a support carrier for others to work the RES sites

A long wait till Odyssey, I think we need to be able to buy these....they actually fly, search for vids.

This morning, I kitted out Big Bad Nasty Warship - my unarmed and eggshell-fragile Exploration DBX - and am now flying up to the Vela Dark region to collect Guardian data.
Reason: my prime ship Xeno's Paradox has VERY tough shields and boosters out the eyeballs, no NPC in the game even gets as far as a single SCB cycle before they're toast; even doubling up on me. But I haven't considered trying Guardian tech until talking about it on the Forums here. So, I'm heading out to get some scan data to unlock the Guardian shield boosters and give them a shot.

It's funny - BEFORE I got my Fleet Carrier a trip of 100 jumps was nothing to me. Now, this is a reasonably short flight of 18 Jumps and I'm realizing I haven't done this in MONTHS - just fly, jump and travel. I normally just take the Carrier.

I miss this, I really do. :) I might leave HMCS Bonaventure in place more often lol.
:)
