Presently, I am filling holes at the edge of intergalactic space.
Take a look at the galaxy map in Elite Dangerous Astrometrics. Now take a look at the edges of the galaxy. Even though the most remote stars have already been tagged years ago by the pioneers, there are plenty of empty areas-the holes-that border them. Right now I am filling a rather large hole (exploring undiscovered systems and submitting my journals to EDSM so the ED Astrometrics map can be updated) in the Acheron region, about 61,000 LY from the bubble.
Before this, I explored previously undiscovered areas in the galactic limits in the northern area of Mare Somnia.
I did the same for almost the entire Essap/Gootio sector a few weeks ago. Before I arrived, these sectors were largely empty, with the exception of the stars that marked the limit of the galaxy. When I finished, the hole was filled.
In the process, I also completed some of the discoveries already made by the pioneers like CMDR Allitnil. In this case, the main star was already discovered by CMDR Allitnil but the rest of the system was not, so I scanned the rest of the system.
For those of you who want to fill a very large hole near the galactic limits, take a look at the eastern area of the Sagittarius-Carina region in ED Astrometrics. Plenty of opportunities to tag your name in undiscovered areas.
After I fill the hole I am in right now, I will probably keep heading toward the Abyss via the galactic rim.
And before exploring this area, I visited Colonia, Sagittarius A, and the galactic ceiling in the Ryker’s Hope area.
This trip started on 9/6/20.
