Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Dear Fdev, I am really trying to buy into the immersion and role-play experience of your game. But as a real life finance/numbers person, stuff like this just overloads my OCD Capacitor Array. So the battle weapons I was smuggling were sticks with nails, what are these then?

Hostile Environment suits.

The price indicates the difference when you are doing trade work at wholesale pricing and what your customers get when they sell them one at a time over the counter of their fancy boutique.

Well, I managed to upgrade my shotgun to Grade 4. Now it will do even more damage when I occasionally manage to hit something with it!

I had to trade a lot of stuff to get the other stuff I needed for the upgrade. I probably traded stuff I will need later for other stuff. But for now most of my stuff is gone because I traded it. I'm stuffless.

:)

What kind of annoys me that unlike the old engineering mats and synthesis which I have burned into my memory, I have no idea what the new stuff is good for. So for now I'm just hoarding. I visited the suit engineer with my G2 Artemis suit and found out I've been hoarding completely the wrong stuff, but even if I were to hoard the right one, I haven't found anything I would want. There were only some three mods, none of them interesting to me. The only thing I'd like to have is the night vision, but that's probably some other engineer I haven't even heard of, yet.
Imma head out, anyway. Hopefully I'll return with more stuff of the right kind, this time.

Yup, I dont even know what is what and what is the difference between the 3 categories except data which is clear but what is the whole list. Unlike the old mats where the 3 different traders lay out the exchange rates and rarity in a neat screen, I cant make head or tail of the new stuff.

Well the original engineering system was reworked into what we have now in around a year and the traders where added only a few years later.

So I am sure there will be plenty of time for people to learn who does what to which and where, Inara has already made a start on this.

Well, the interface for the bartender/trader is pretty weird. I did figure it out after a bit, at least functionally. One thing is certain, though, just like the Horizons material traders, this new guy rips you off big time.

I decided to drag out my iCourier. It might be nice to have a smaller ship for these little excursions to restore power and whatnot. I've been using the Krait MKII, and it's been doing a great job, but it is a little larger than I probably need. The Courier should be very easy to set down wherever I want.

It was already painted stealth black, so I just refitted it a bit. It was previously fitted mostly for speed, so I put some better shields on it, and some weapons. It's always been a fun ship to fly, but I haven't had a real use for it in a while. Maybe now I do :)

"Small" is a matter of perspective:

I mean, when I was still new to Elite (late last year), it took me a very short time to get a grasp of the original materials, except for the elements (which I just went screw it, get all the G4s from a single farming run at crystal sites), the manufactured and data were quite easy to spot in terms of which belonged in which family (something shielding, ok that goes to shields, something to do with firm/software, ok that goes to software family, something alloy goes to alloy family, scrap, worn xxx, sounds low end, proto radiolic, sounds high end) and is easy to sort out in my mind. The new goods.... ugh... its a smorgasbord blended with a bukakae explosion of techomechanical jargon.

Did you pack the dumbfires and remote release fireworks?

I am thinking which small ship I want to use for my ground missions. Vulture or Cobra or Viper or Imp Eagle. All have their nice bits. But ideally I want to spam small hardpoints.
