Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Found this biological. Really hard to spot and had to do a lot of driving/flying to get the biodiversity required. Also got first footfall. Posting this image so highlighting something to look out for:

Just came back to the top of the galaxy and up there I found this strange thing. Some kind of Thargoid fungus it seemed :alien:

Kind of spooky, given that on the pervious planet, ~1600 ly above Jameson, I had found some strange transmitter guarded by a bunch of sentinels. I didn't bring any weapons, but a small shield, so I decided to ram one of them, just to see what happened. Don't!

I spent some time yesterday doing a Guardian Tech Broker unlock! Yeah, I know ... I hate that 'personal narrative' grind. 'Personal Narrative'? Who are you kidding FDev? Personal Narrative is about as sincere as ... Armstrong Moment! ;)

The only thing I've unlocked from Tech Brokers previously is the Frame Shift Booster which was well worth it as I've ended up using one in nearly all my ships. I've been fine tuning the little CM3 build I made recently and even G5 engineered the shield was dropping a little more than I'd hoped, so I buckled up and went for the Guardian Shield Reinforcement. It's probably the only other module worth grinding for my playstyle I think. I've read that it works particularly well for the smaller ships. We shall see though, I haven't had a chance to check it out in the field yet.

Yes, I like the L-6. Just cant find a G2 or 3 version of it anywhere.
Plasma rifle has it's purpose as a long range assassination weapon against a target with it's shield off. Problem is, you need the target to stand still or move in the same direction as your shot goes. A missile launcher is eventually attracting attention, whereas if you score a hit with the plasma rifle it's a clean and quite silent kill.

As a combat weapon plasma isn't that good long-range, I've seen it often enough that one can just step aside to avoid being hit. I see it mainly as an assassin weapon sniper style and being undetected - score the hit, get a clean kill and leave the area. Mission accomplished. At least that is how I would do it, when the target isn't in a building.

As far as close quarter assassination goes, I ask myself, if one can do that whilst being scanned - if it is possible to kill them while they are busy scanning. It is something I tend to do in assassin's creed games, get the attention of someone, close in quickly and drive my blade through their guts or wait around a corner and kill them as soon as they show up. Not fight them, but kill them right away - not letting them any chance. Is that possible in EDO during being scanned by them?

The problem is that when scanning they are facing you and a pace or two away usually so raising a tool in illegal mode or moving towards them starts to trigger them as does unshipping a weapon. Maybe just after the scan has finished if they turn away when they return to what they were doing.

The latter reminds me of the calm spell in Skyrim - calming an enemy down and as soon as he/she/it turns around perform the kill with dual daggers. Illusion and conjuration was my kind of thing - wearing a robe and dual daggers. Causing havoc playing with the minds of my opponents.

Hehe. Different games, but I much preferred ranged DPS characters like bards/dirges and rangers.

Yeah, it is a different style - I just walk into a fort, let them fight each other using illusion, and the last one standing will be calmed down by me and then I cut his throat as soon as he turns around. And if there is one, not vulnerable to my illusion spells, my dremora boys (via conjuration) will handle him.

I have not managed to get a kill without triggering a bounty.

Yes I have tried squatting in the shadows from far, and even the G1 plasma sniper rifle kills with 1 shot to the back of the head. But I have only tried it 2 times and each time, the bounty warning appears once the target drops.

Maybe some other NPC was looking at the targets direction but not that I was aware of.

Skyrim... sneaking around taking out enemies using arrows with the hidden damage multipler (and chaos dmg enchanted bow) felt like cheating. Couple of dragons even died with 1 arrow, had to install the super-buffed dragon mods after that.

Dragons aren't effected by illusion spells, this has to be handled differently - basically forcing them on the ground (via dragon shout) and using conjuration to deal with it.

You might want to have a look at this

With an outdoor assassination you are basically just firing a single shot - so take your time, find a good spot with an easy escape route and wait for the moment to fire this single shot - get your kill and get out - that's it basically. Did you see him getting a fine?

Right, learnt something. Most important was you can clone profiles without killing the guy! Damn, I was killing em first.

2nd thing, in the video, the 1st kill, he still got a bounty from killing the target (just that guards didnt turn agrro). Is there anyway to avoid this? Or like ships, impossible.

My guess is, he didn't get away before a guard discovered the corpse - in the 2nd he got off the planet before anyone could discover the murder.

Bases reset once you are in supercruise - so my guess is, that if you get into supercruise before the murder is discovered, you can get away without a fine.
