Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I just looked at the list of mats to get my Maverick suit from G3 to 4.... its horrendous... despairing now... I havent even found a single suit schematic, lots of weapons schematics though. And the carbon fibre plating... and 10 power regulators!??!?! I only find the broken ones at crash sites.

Graphene and CF plating can be relatively easily traded using most of the locker junk I find, but the regulators, mfg instructions and schematics are gonna be a pain.

IMO manufacturing instructions (by far the hardest to obtain in my experience) are most easily farmed from missions.
I have no idea which system state (if it is connected at all) "produces" them the most, but sometimes I run into a station with several missions at once having the MI as a reward (usually two units each)
I don't think I've even encountered them anywhere else.

Also, and this is not meant as an excuse or consolation, but when comes to Maverick and Artemis, you don't really need them higher than G3, because the only really useful mod is extra pockets. Nice to have for sure, but you don't need five mod slots for that.

On the positive side you are way ahead of me as I haven't done anything engineering wise other than get Domino's address and buy some G3 stuff to start from.

I murdered a base full of scavengers for one Power Regulator and it was worth it. :p
Given the track record of crashed Eagles/Condors offering up a working regulator (its only 16k+ credits for a condor (and the bay allows 3D printing of it!!!!, why cant I just buy 10 of em , strip the regulator and trash the other bits? I swear the elite background really makes no sense). looks like I am going to have to do it that way too.
"Scavengers. Pff. The galaxy's nastiest pile of rubbish. Detest them with prejudice. Absolutely worthless."

cough

resumes scavenging
I like to think of myself as ...err... salvaging. errr..... materials engineering! Definitely not scavenging.... Recycling, yeah thats it!

On a tangent, but I do have a metaphorical smirk whenever I take a 'power on the facility' and here is your level 3 access mission. Because its not just the 5 data and 100k Credit pay but the bonus 'anything that is not welded down at the base all you can carry buffet'.

Greetings!

I arrived at my waypoint in the Empyrean Straits, 20200 LY away from the bubble.

The last 6,000 LY before arriving there were basically chain jumping neutrons, with the occasional main sequence star for refueling. I already plotted a route to the Synaisa sector, still about 10,000 LY away. However, the game plotter managed to plot a route that requires only 47 jumps-this means more chain neutron jumping. No, I don't use Spansh. In this way I have been able to have first discoveries for lots of neutron stars.

I have noted that, even in a relatively dense star area, the image still does not look as bright as in Horizons when attempting to take a screenshot outside the ship:

But when inside the ship, the stars look brighter:

I was also able to establish my record for most bodies found in a system: 82

I should arrive to the Synaisa system by tomorrow. Imagine-10,000 LY in just 47 jumps (in a 75.2 LY Anaconda with a 32 ton fuel tank). It's good to have this neutron highway to the central regions of the galaxy.

So, it took very little time to cover 20,000 LY. Here is my present position:

I have noted that in Odyssey, the ELWs look greenish:

But overall, it has been a good trip so far. On to Synaisa!

1) Became a "compiler"
2) Blanket dumbfired an IM2 and got rewards ("nuke the entire site from orbit; it's the only way to be sure")
3) Pillaged the site for all it's worth and got 5 weapons schematics

If only we could call in a large missile strike from an orbiting carrier. I would pay lots of credits for the ammo (but Fdev would probably make it 150 Tellurium, 200 Graphene, 200 Tungsten Carbide, 300 RDX, 200 Weapon schematics...)

BTW, does it irk anyone that when you get one of those 'Power up a dead site' missions, those with the crew all dead and lying around and the power plant down and the rooms all on fire, you can still request for docking (as long as it has a pad) and then access the contacts to pay fines, collect bounties and even trade commodities!

I also noticed that I have 2 mission item (those with the blue globe) power regulators listed in my inventory and it appears in the for sale list when I trade with the barkeep. I think I kept them when I got blown up at the first door before I inserted the mission regulator in the housing and auto-failed the mission. Anyone know if these blue globe regulators can be used for crafting? Cos I am about to take 10 of these missions and then YOLO L-6 at the first guard so that I can try......

I am close to first upgrade. Just need 6 suit schematics and 6 Mfg Instructions. rest can be bartered since I got loads of the usual metal coils and ion batteries and shoestrings
Yes. I managed to get enough stuff together for 1 suit upgrade from 3 to 4. I had to trade most of my other tech for what I needed so it'll be back to collecting again now.

I decided to upgrade the Dominator, because the added protection will be the most useful as I try to unlock Hero Ferrari. I have to complete 10 conflict zones for that one.

Pew pew. Pew. Pew pew. And again. Pew.

New planet tech can't create nice landscape, especially valleys

...apparently

The lighting system is horrible. It's realistic in choosing the light source, but too dark to play the game.

...until you find yourself on a highly reflective ice planet illuminated solely by the core of a Milky Way and just stand there for five minutes with open mouth.

(sorry for the UI, btw. Can't be bothered to bind a key to hide it.)

Dumbf...err ADVANCED missile racks negate the need for dominator. I do it using my G3 Maverick. Just rocket away at the troops after they drop, once reinforcements stop coming in, get on foot and mop up.

Of course if you like FPS, by all means. I dont really like prolonged FPS. Sneak and snipe or kill 1 or 2, sure. Prolonged game of counterstrike... nah.

edit: Still dont understand mission threat levels. Just took a threat 5, which I expected to be rather hard. It was an assassinate target without setting off alarm job. I had expected the target to be some scientist behind a bunch of level 1 to 3 doors which I had to spend lots of time getting to. Turns out the target was some Scout conveniently walking around a rooftop, he was nice enough not to walk around on the ground!!! ...... easiest foot mission ever! I even wasted time cloning the profile of some random guy to open the doors but turns out it wasnt even needed.

It's cool that they allow different approaches. Does this still count as a completion for the engineer?

I'm willing to bombard from my ship for some stuff, but not for this. I can't learn to be better at on-foot combat that way, and I need to improve :)

I successfully completed 3 yesterday, and won them, too.

It should count. When I arrive by ship, before landing, I can already select CZ faction just like in a space CZ. Then the usual green/red bars will show up to show which side is winning. And you get the final victory msg and credits/bonds when your side wins.

I never stayed in the ship all the way, normally go on foot for the last mop up cos when its 20 to 2, I didnt want my ADVANCED missiles to cause friendly frags. Actually, I only rocket those fresh 6-packs that get newly dropped off, once they run into the compound, its too easy to frag a friendly with ship rockets.

Yes, I noticed that you can choose from your ship. There's just been a lot of folks complaining that the engineer did not unlock for them, while others are having no problems. So I wonder if it's because they did the thing from their ship.

I have no clue. Anyway I prefer the shotgun to the face method. I'm getting better at it :)
