Greetings!
I am still in the Synaisa sector, focusing on systems that are at least 2800 LY above the plane-so far I have scanned 100 previously undiscovered systems in that sector.
There are some stars that are one way destinations with a conventional ship-you can reach them with neutron boost but you’ll never come home alive on your own (without a FC to rescue you) since the destination star has no neutron star to use as a boost to jump back and is out of range even with premium jumponium. Virtually all of the 3000ers in this sector fit this category.
Regarding exobiology, if the planet has only bacterial colonies, I tend to skip them. It takes a very long time to find the three required samples for these.
As for neutrons, I have found lots of previously undiscovered ones in this sector alone. It looks like non sequence objects like black holes and neutrons, as well as very hot stars like O and B types, abound in the center of the galaxy.
Regarding the neutrons, one poster stated that they can be made to look like in Horizons by turning off FX in the graphics settings. I tried this and it worked. But at times the game crashes when using the full spectrum scanner, and the galactic map tends to flicker at times.
Odyssey is a great concept but it can and should improve. Still, I could not have imagined the progress Elite would make when I played it in my Commodore 128 (in C64 mode) in 1986. At that time it looked gorgeous and was instantly hooked. I spent a lot of time playing it after homework and chores were done. But I only reached “dangerous.” I could not imagine that one day it would be possible to land on planets and travel across a whole Milky Way.
Fast forward to 2019. When I first played ED, I was still thinking that it was like an improved version of the original (I knew nothing regarding the added features). So I thought that the galaxy map was just one of the 8 galaxies like in the original, and that the ships were fixed at 7 LY jump range like in the original, just to name a few. But as I learned about the game ( and yes, it does have a very steep learning curve, as I found out), I really grew fond of it.
