It would have been nice if the foot NPCs shows up as 'N/A' or 'No rank' when scanned with the SRV to show that they are not members of the Pilots Fed.
If Harmless is a rank just like Private or Recruit is a rank in the army, a civilian is still neither.
they are ex-military called mercs who do little tidy up jobs or dirty jobs.they no longer hold a rank in army they just continue use that rank in the merc world.
so in the game world you would be a Merc along with the rest of the npc's pilots

I would stick to ferrying biowaste in a sidewinder if I were them! Its a lousy job I tell you. You are patrolling the PWR building entrance and suddenly a hail of dumbfire missiles would come down. Also, you come back to your locker at the end of every shift and gawdammit, the maglock has been cut and someone stole your personal documents and insights entertainment suite again!
And even though there are hot water shower facilities in the HAB, you cant ever take a shower because the atmosphere gets vented by random visitors every so often and if the power cuts, the water and air suddenly turns very very cold.....

Another on-foot mission where the objective is in a containder that doesn't exist. Where's my salt cellar?

I have only ever gotten those where I cant disembark in a suit during the mission timeframe.
Was the container supposed to be at a settlement or crash site?

I have since learnt that for settlement power-ups, always assume some ship has dropped a batch of 5 or 6 commandos everytime I prepare to leave the PWR building. Esp dangerous for those with only 1 exit. The double exit PWR buildings are much safer in that respect.
Gotta keep watching the upper left radar and always prepare to sprint.

The NPCs will shoot the SRV when they see it and you will get an 'SRV destroyed' pop up message.
It happened to me on my very first foot mission and I still recall the terror and panic not knowing what happened (I was inside inspecting lockers) wondering was it a Federal Corvette that blew my SRV up?
I fly with a double SRV bay for foot missions nowadays thanks to that.
Had a mission to exterminate some base people, but they turned out to be non-pirates. Plus somebody tipped them off I was coming and the base started shooting at me before I even landed. My shield was slowly getting destroyed, and my iCourier is not set up to destroy any base defenses. I decided the mission was more trouble than it was worth
Instead I took a different one to clear out some scavengers and restore some power, the usual, but it paid me a Weapon Inventory, which I wanted.
There was a fairly nice blue tint to the atmosphere. So I did a pose.

Yes, it’s surprising how big the ships are when you’re on foot. And the Courier is a small pad ship!
here a weird one for you guys & girls to figure out.
went to do a mission for 37 xi bootis (dark wheel)
went to nav point for scan data , got it
told me to go to planet b3 ..... in the 86 mu herculis planet b3.
got there no problem............
Found 4 irregular site and a artificial structure....... (no problem with that- you say).
select first irregular site. get ready to land (ping the scanner went)
site completley disappeared...
look on nav again.
All site have now change to minor wreck sites?

and now the mission says i haven't completed the first task of scanning nav / or planet.
