Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I had an unexpected adventure today.

I scouted out a place to buy some Tritium, in preparation for an exploration trip. My T9, Big Tony, was happy to do the heavy lifting. When I got to the system, I saw that it orbited this very colorful planet. (These are thumbnails, click to enlarge)

After hauling enough Tritium, I decided to take a break and go look at that planet up close. It's landable, 1.6 Gs. I wanted to see how the green and red parts looked from the surface.

It was very cool looking as I approached -- mountainous with what appeared to be small dead volcanos here and there. I decided to jump in the fighter and fly around for a bit of fun. I forgot that I had loaded the Trident, but it made for some pretty cool pictures.

After I bit I spotted some active fumaroles and lava spouts, mostly in the reddish areas. It was 957K on the surface, which meant that I couldn't last very long in just my Artemis suit. So I deployed the SRV and took in the sights. There were some materials to be had, as well.

So now my carrier is ready to take a jaunt, whenever I decide to do so. I want to go, but I also have stuff I want to do in the bubble, so I guess I'll just play it by ear and take off when the mood hits me :)

Was that four sentinels on you in one go? Wow.

I always struggle with these even with four pips to weapons. I empty the capacitor really quickly and they still take a load of shots to take down.

DIgital designs - am I right in thinking that they are procured from downloads within the HAB buildings of settlements? I beleive they are classed as data...

If you are spotted downloading data, it's illegal. So if some NPC like a technician spots you, they start shooting don't they? I mean, not just the base "cops" like commandoes and scouts - is that right?

Yes. And if you give them time they will call in the alarm and the whole base will be after you. Kill them before they do and you might get away with it (unless the shots are heard. — noise suppressor is helpful here)

I saw these today and remembered that I forgot to tell you about the Bell icon on a data item. It means that alarms will go off, even if no one sees you. I didn't want to forget that part!

While waiting for a carrier jump, I decided to upgrade my alt account to Odyssey. I've been curious about how it would feel to start over on foot.

Of course, once I logged into that account, there was a bunch to do and it sucked me in for the rest of the day.

I'm pleased to report that I was able to easily dispatch the 10 enemies in the starter mission, even without my preferred weapons :p It was actually no problem at all, which made me feel pretty good. I know I've gotten better, but I wondered how much of it was just gear. I now know that at least some of it is actually me improving ;)

And then I landed in some random port, looking for missions, and what do my wondering eyes behold but a Grade 3 Tormentor, no mods, just sitting there. Now that would be a fine start, I thought. It was priced at 1,250,000 credits. I had 500,000. Time to get out there and earn some credits! I was sure it would be gone by the time I got back, but it wasn't. Pretty cool.

Yep, IMO starting from scratch and the first couple of hours is the best "feature" of Odyssey. I thoroughly enjoyed that as well.
(although I had to start twice because on my first run I missed the tutorial prompt about overloading the lock and thought my game bugged out on me.)

Still. I'm already looking forward to my next restart. Those couple of days without ship, just doing mercenary work and discovering stuff was really invigorating.
