Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

continuing the search for life!......Found this on another planet in lawd 96 system, that was the easiers find for 3 geos. one straight line all bunched together. has for picture converting i use paint.and just resize the image to 80% (if it under 2mb it should be fine)

Now this is something I certainly haven't seen before...

Yes I've found a few of those - in fact there were some in the system I just left. WikiFandom has an article about them here:

They are classed as organic and I think they show up in the Codex along with the bios found on planet and moon surfaces. In my Asp X though, I've only been able to scan the ones I found with the Short Range Composition Scanner but not been able to actually collect any samples, as I have no room on the ship to fit a Research Limpet Controller.

After I've scanned one of those a Codex message will pop up saying I have a 500CR or something reward, but I checked EDDiscovery afterwards and nothing shows up there to indicate any payment I might get from VIsta or Cartographics. (I'm not sure which one of those is where you sell them.) Maybe If I could collect samples as well they will show up, not sure.

So, at least as far as I'm concerned with my Asp X loadout, I've now come to the conclusion that it's not worth my time travelling to those signal sources when I can only scan them and not collect.

Codex discovery awards should show up in your left panel - > transactions. You can hand them in at stations: contacts -> administrative contact -> codex discoveries - they are awarded/redemmable from the Pilot's Federation.

Yes I usually check that transactions thing after I've got a Codex message for bios I've collected. So far, on this current trip I'm on, my Codex payments total more than 1 million CR so not bad I guess. :p

What I'm not sure about is if you get any more reward from either Vista or Cartographics for the Stellar Phonomena thingies when I can only scan them.

IIRC, niether Vista nor Carto hand out extra rewards for NSP's. These came before on-foot stuff was a twinkle in its fathers eye so I doubt Vista knows about it.

I've arrived at the asteroid base in the Pencil Sector now, after I first set off on a journey about ten days ago to check out that 35 bio system @Tyres O'Flaherty mentioned, then went further afield to try to grab some more stuff.

Should I head for the bubble to get the fleet carrier now, or since I'm a greedy git, head off back to the middle of nowhere first to try to get a couple more billions?

I'll think about it for a bit. :sneaky:

Get the extra billions, then you don't have to worry so much about carrier upkeep ☺️

Definitely get the rearm/refuel/repair. Then I'd suggest cartographics and Vista. The other stuff is pretty expensive and I've never had the need for them.

Don't forget, the shipyard and outfitting modules are so that other CMDRs can use those facilities on your FC; as the owner, you get those abilities anyway.

The concourse can come in handy for selling Ody mats though - but it's overpriced IMO.

Ok thanks for that info. I'll go back out first though to try to get a couple more billions.

In my continuing hunt for some more billions so I can go and get one of those giant tin cans to carry my fleet around in, I landed on a moon just now that supposedly had Bacterium and Stratum, with blue all over the place for both. I found the Bacterium no problem, but could I find the Stratum? Even when it's normally the easiest thing to find? Nope - not even after I'd been out into orbit again and come down in a different place...

Not a single Stratum to be found. :(

check the rocks areas.
Low-lying photosynthetic organisms that bond tightly to the surface of rocks. The body of the organism may be embedded in the rock subsurface to provide protection from the elements, leaving the tough photosynthetic proto-leaves exposed. Their simple proto-evolutionary nature means that they are a common sight on rocky worlds. Colouration is driven by a mixture of the mineral content of the attached rock and the absorption spectra of the nearby stellar body.

i know the feeling thou, it took me 2 days to find the latest cactoida :)

If you can get up to 6.5 billion and then buy one with at least the repair, refuel andnrearm services the pressure is off. If you want your own mobile station to explore from in the black, universal Cartographics and vista genomics will provide you more than enough credits for weekly maintenance from the data sold.
There are two reasons I have outfitting and shipyard - I ran a mining and exploration expedition and had 3 other commanders bring ships with them, and I have a second commander account that keeps a couple of ships on board for the Thargoid war effort.
