Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I spent the last couple sessions out in the wild, kinda training for exploration.
I still am on that moon with this narrow canyon, just hopping from one geospot to the next to collect materials, as I plan on streamlining my engineering process a bit to get all the ships done to the point available to me at this moment. I plan on visiting some more moons in the system to get the materials this one doesn't have.

Right, after another afternoon of more frustration at glitchy mechanics than anything resembling enjoyable gameplay, i'm giving up on mining... that movie will just have to wait until it's a viable activity once again - else it will simply be a series of booms, interspersed with the tragic wails of many dying limpets :p

Mining was my go-to for earning credits before the great exo-rush.

It's still viable in that sense if you want to put the time in to lasering platinum. Two full Cutter holds will give me a gnats over 1k tons and that usually gives me a nice little earner.

Mining, for me, is a way to unwind after a hard day of scav extermination and adrenalin boosted CZs. The latter of which I do in moderation to avoid teeth grinding and a thousand yard stare.

Stumbled on to yet another one of these. I am having a strange issue, I've had three CTD's in as many days but with no bug report box, Frontier must have broke that with their last update.

Yep it’s a great pity about the current state of it - i’ve never been a hardcore / serious miner, but have found it a most enjoyable chilled / slow-gaming activity at times before when in the mood for it… and it can contribute meaningfully [ie: crank out some credits :] to in-game career & progress.

Was probably being a bit harsh yesterday after limpet-death and pulse wave problems soured the experience - but at present it definitely has issues that need fixing, ie: if one’s going to do much beyond an hour or so of playing about in a hotspot…

…perhaps mining for resources could be worked into a war-narrative related CG sometime, giving some motivation for fixing this aspect of gameplay in advance of it? ;]

I've had no problems with limpets generally, bar the occasional one getting stuck inside an asteroid, but it only happens about once in every 30 limpets or so.

It's mainly economic rate of return for time invested that's getting on my wick. So I've gone exobiology scanning instead. With the credits from that I can buy as much tritium, platinum or whatever that I want, and trade it/sell it.

I wonder if your experience differs much from what I have experienced so far in mining in the museum.

Limpets have a sucidal tendency about them, no matter what you use them for. Even when collecting stuff in a debris field, you are best advised to see to find a clear path for your limpets, as they don't care about any obstacles and try to fly directly through them. I guess they use the same routines as the SCA to navigate their surroundings - a straight line is to be preferred, no matter what might lie in it's path.

The Pulse Wave Analyser is about as useful here in the museum as it seems to be in the live world. You won't get more than a "hey, look, here's a minable core" out of it. If you want to know more, you have to send a Prospector Limpet. On my last mining run, I used more limpets for prospecting than collecting.

There is definitely room for improvement in this field, which wouldn't just benefit mining, but quite a few other aspects of the game that require the use of Limpets.

Yep it's not completely broken, but it is glitchy - fine for an hour or so, but the frustrations with limpet fail & PWA wierdness do wear away at your enjoyment - and get really frustrating if one is trying to go to work on a fresh hotspot...

...so hiho, hiho - it's off to ExoBio i go, once again... ;]

Anyway, as i amble about not completely aimlessly, the NGC 7822 "Structure" is becoming more visible in the distance [at about 45 degrees just below the glide line in this small salad-bar scan] - now a mere 1540 LY away ...at this rate, i should be there in time for Easter :]

I've arrived at Explorer's Anchorage station, which is neither in the bubble or Colonia.

It's also right next door to this system, which seems to have a ginormous great dark plughole in it:

Not sure why, but there's quite a few fleet carriers parked here. (Mine isn't one of them as it's currently parked a couple of systems away.) Hope they don't all get sucked into that big plughole.

Wow  ...i plan to make it there someday still!

...this veggie patch has a good collection of rock - so they should have everything from Pink Floyd to Radiohead here ...is that Ziggy Stardust over in the distance i wonder? :)

These bacteria seem to prefer the highlands...

Well, all in all this has been a nice little 6 bio system for almost the price of a Cutter... :]

8 bio's must be the low-atmosphere world equivalent of a forest... :]

I've started to engineer a new ship for the first time this year. I'm reliability informed it is "the meta" for speed running Exobiology scans when you are based from your fleet carrier in the black. Getting the SRV out wastes time. What you need is the ship with the smallest landing footprint possible to be able to land virtually anywhere, no matter how rough the terrain.

So I bought a Sidewinder...

It will have an adequate 40ly jump range and shields weak enough to bring disaster if I'm not careful enough. Should add a little drama I suppose. I'll tinker with it for a few weeks before I head out into the black with the carrier. Going to play with the Thargoid war activities again for a while first.

Now this is food for thought.

A small landing footprint may well come in handy for those mountainous regions where some elusive bios lurk.

Not having an SRV feels a bit disconcerting however! :D

I might give it a whirl though; my Sidey is feeling very sorry for herself under that moth eaten tarpaulin. I think she's called "Trillian'.

I don't have a small explorer type ship. Well, no, actually I do - in the guise of a DBx but I really don't enjoy flying it.
