Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Just visited my first Spire site, a disabled one.

Wow!

Impressive to see as I approached in daylight.

I landed on one of the upper platforms of the tallest spire and with the soundscape I found it creepy the knowledge of how high off the ground I was while on foot didn't help.

After I had flown down to the ground in my ship I did a little driving around and walking it was a lot quieter and while still atmospheric it was a lot less creepy.

Now heading back to my carrier to pick a ship to try and visit Taranis wreck site and maybe the next one before it blows up.

I got my SRV back from the engineers today, I'm gonna take her out for a Saturday drive.

They are a sight to behold, that's for sure.

Oh, an Isetta. Also referred to as pothole locating equipment or smooch ball.
When I was a kid there where scary tales about those.
Apparently someone returned from a holiday or some planned absence early and drove straight into their garage out of sight of the road but made the mistake of parking too close to the brick wall so the door wouldn’t open enough to reach out and of course there is no reverse gear. The body was found weeks later trapped inside.

Jeez, what a boring way to die.

All the pictures I can find show them with windows you should either be able to get out of, or get a hand to the gasket/grommet holding the bigger window in so you can get that out to escape, and/or a fabric covered hole masquerading as a sun roof, so Imma call urban legend on those

You like Sidewinders, eh? Check this maniac out, he's got a bunch of videos attacking all kinds of ships. A little dated though.

Yeah, the guy with the twin enforcer sidewinder - I've seen his work before, and keep wondering if I can find it in myself to grind the PP needed to get me some enforcer cannons before U19 hits...

Also, I do not have the combat chops to win that fight (against an NPC, never mind a CMDR!), even with that loadout :D

The Isetta was one of the few bubblecars that actually came with a reverse gear, so this must either have been a different bubble car (there are some other cars in a similar styling, although I'm not sure if those ever made it across the channel) or this really is an urban legend, like @SpaceGoblin said.
Well there was the BMW* and the Heinkel that were bubble shaped and there was the Messerschmitt but that was a different shape and had tandem seats, and of course there were 4 wheeled variants which weren’t popular here as you had to pay car tax rather than motorcycle tax which was the big selling point for them.

*Yes I know same thing slightly different badging.

I found the term "bubble cars" being used by the host of "Classic Car TV", an american TV show about classic cars - mainly american cars, but you'll also find these small cars like the BMW Isetta in there every once in a while. It seems to be the official english term for this kind of cars.
In Germany, these cars were built because many people wouldn't have the driver's license for "proper" cars like the VW Beetle. They only had a license for small displacement vehicles, which usually were scooters and motorbikes at that time. Which made commuting to and from work a little awkward on rainy days. But I think that's old news for the UK-based members of our community...
