Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

There was a thread recently over in suggestions about hauling, trading and interdictions and making money without missions, it has inspired me to have a go,

Way back in the day one of the ways to make money was to go to a station with rare goods load up to the allocation limit and fly off some 175Ly or so and make an enhanced profit due to the distance. All sorts of clever people worked out that you could create loops of these Rares stations then fly from one to another around the loop buying at each station and selling stuff to make room when it paid enough.

I bookmarked some of these loops then amended them so I could nip round in an Orca by deleting the bookmarks for outposts. Over time the bookmarks have been messed up in futile attempts to tidy up and keep everything.

So what I am doing is making my way through the rares stations I have bookmarked but not trying for a loop yet, I will eventually get looped back or I will just reverse my path.

Back in the day the recommended ships were the AspX or if you had the funds a Python, I am doing it in my Type 8.

Obviously I am not doing it for the credits, though I will be seeing how well I did, nor for the rank. I am doing it because I have been lugging these bookmarks around and I want to see if running rares is still fun and how worthwhile it is for those who are still needing credits etc.

One thing doing it in the Type 8 has shown is you don’t need to worry about selling for space though my last sales did let me reach the next station on my list without diverting for fuel, I am not carrying a scoop on board.

Another thing is that given the station bookmarks it is a very hassle free method of trading as supply and demand aren’t a major factor and of course bulk tax can’t apply.

So far it has been good fun and the half dozen or so failed NPC interdictions show the T8 is a chip of the old brick.

Sounds intriguing...

I'm hanging about in the vicinity of Sirius trying to get that permit.
One side effect is that I'm now a honorary Lieutenant of the Federal Navy.
To get that rank, I had to obtain 12 tons of fish...
Took me some time to figure out where to find some...
Fiddled around with the galmap, but that didn't help, as I still don't understand what the map wants to show me.
I only found markets that would buy fish.
Then, I a short bright moment, I took a closer look at the market screen of a station and found the answer to my question...
You can tell that the last time I did something that resembled trading was back in Horizons...
Well, if you forget things, a task that would take about ten minutes under normal circumstances, suddenly cuts half an hour (or more? I lost track...) out of your life...

On a side note, I guess I should keep an eye out for Modular Terminals in mission rewards...

I was gonna return after many months away and do some mission spam for a ruby Cobra paintjob before the 21st, but then I remembered the crappy 400 arx limit.

Isn't there some other anniversary in December or did I just make that up?

I am not worried about doing this as I mostly read/post to the forums using a tablet while already in bed.
Cheating I suppose.

I did once nod off at the keyboard while docking at a Coriolis, one moment I was lining up at a distance having just got docking permission, next I was bumping around in the trench that surrounds the bit of the station face with the slot in. It took a while to work out where I was.
Oh yeah, I've done that before, and instead of going to bed like a normal person I continued with my game while having dangerous micro sleeps along the way.

"Uuugh! Where's that ship I was firing at?!"

Our cat won't let me doze off, it will walk across my keyboard and jump in my lap.

Hi :)

They are naming them now so the update is called Ascendancy and will have the T8 in game, the Mandalay for Arx and PowerPlay 2.

Since Frontier announced this new update naming system I've thought that perhaps this wasn't the best idea, reason?...it's far easier to have a numerical system, numbering has an infinite methodology whereas naming them can become complicated. Basically I mean they have got to think of an appropriate name for each major update.
I presume smaller intermediate updates will still stick to the numbering system?
For example:- 'Ascendancy 1.0 update, Ascendancy 1.1 - 1.2 etc.
Then the next 'major' update would be something like... 🤔..*.'Earth Like Worlds' 1.1 add infinitum! 😉 😂

Back to topic.....I'm just pootling around in the bubble, selling, trading, doing missions etc. presently. I might nip out now and again, but not very far, I'm going to buy the T8 (credits) plus the Mandalay (Arx) hopefully next week, kit them out, try 'em then head out somewhere again....unless this new feature shows up, depends what it is.
*One must never lose hope!

Jack :)

Yeah, the names are meaningless and will be difficult/impossible to remember what was what, and when. Oh well.

I'm still salty about the length of the Thargoid focus, and the introduction of ships via real-life money, the SCO drives making all other obsolete, and etc. Meanwhile so many long-standing bugs just remain in place, with no hope for fixes and no discussion from Frontier.

The game is so clearly on the dev's back burner nowadays. And I'm old and jaded, I suppose :)

Honestly I haven't logged in much lately. I'm out in the black and will probably just stay there until one day I suddenly get the urge to play again.
