There was a thread recently over in suggestions about hauling, trading and interdictions and making money without missions, it has inspired me to have a go,
Way back in the day one of the ways to make money was to go to a station with rare goods load up to the allocation limit and fly off some 175Ly or so and make an enhanced profit due to the distance. All sorts of clever people worked out that you could create loops of these Rares stations then fly from one to another around the loop buying at each station and selling stuff to make room when it paid enough.
I bookmarked some of these loops then amended them so I could nip round in an Orca by deleting the bookmarks for outposts. Over time the bookmarks have been messed up in futile attempts to tidy up and keep everything.
So what I am doing is making my way through the rares stations I have bookmarked but not trying for a loop yet, I will eventually get looped back or I will just reverse my path.
Back in the day the recommended ships were the AspX or if you had the funds a Python, I am doing it in my Type 8.
Obviously I am not doing it for the credits, though I will be seeing how well I did, nor for the rank. I am doing it because I have been lugging these bookmarks around and I want to see if running rares is still fun and how worthwhile it is for those who are still needing credits etc.
One thing doing it in the Type 8 has shown is you don’t need to worry about selling for space though my last sales did let me reach the next station on my list without diverting for fuel, I am not carrying a scoop on board.
Another thing is that given the station bookmarks it is a very hassle free method of trading as supply and demand aren’t a major factor and of course bulk tax can’t apply.
So far it has been good fun and the half dozen or so failed NPC interdictions show the T8 is a chip of the old brick.
