Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm up to lots of exobiology having accidentally found a five-sun system with a bunch of barycentres into the bargain, on the way back to the orbital I am clearly not going to have time to finish...

The good news is I can see what I'm doing with exo again; I honestly thought going to larger screen was simply not going to work with 6GB VRAM and I'd end up letterboxing, but it turns out the weird artefacts I was getting - usual first sign of trouble was the ship livery disappearing - were actually caused by this iteration of Windows Canary, upgraded to latest and it's fine now. Unfortunate coincidence of upgrading Windows the day after upgrading the screen (yes I should know better.)

Still - bacteria are a lot easier with all this extra hFOV.

Interesting. So how do you set the pre-engineered FSD in Coriolis versus a self-engineered?

I see you can adjust things in Coriolis, but how do you know what to adjust, and how do you know the actual numbers for the pre-engineered?
Coriolis isn't quite up to date, and does not include the pre-engineered SCO.

However, EDSY does include it, and is more accurate than Coriolis.

I kind of prefer the Coriolis user interface, but once you get used to it EDSY works just fine (and it gives accurate data).

I got a free SRV wash with this bio.......

Did you see the size of that die grinder that guy was using on the front of the car? That thing is an industrial accident waiting to happen.
I feel like Richard Pryor should've maybe worn a face shield to protect his moustache at least.

I actually didn't watch that the first time around but I like those old ads. It makes me nostalgic for more simple times. Even though we were all threatening to nuke eachother and stuff. What's a little global thermonuclear war between friends though?

I've actually never used EDSY even though I've checked other people's builds on it. It does look a little trickier but I'll have to give it a proper look sometime.

Coriolis has never had any of the pre-engineered FSDs built in. Its always been neccessary to edit the optimal mass figure manually if you want to see the correct jump range.
I also find the EDSY interface too obscure and always use Coriolis.

Hi All :)
Looks like all the systmes down in this part of the basement have already been discovered. Not that I'm surprised.

There's few I can;t reach even with a 70ly jump range.

Let's see then... where shall I point the ship...
I've not played much this week and last weekend as with the weather here in the UK's being sunny and mostly (England) dry I've been doin' real life stuff, gardening, planting out plants I've grown from seed, general tidying up around the garden and I still haven't finished re-felting the roof on one of my sheds! 😣...still, best part of it done now with just about 1/3rd left to do. Though it's going to be awkward as hell, there's only about around a 2.5 feet gap on one side that's next to the neighbour's high fence so not much room to get a ladder in, plus the black felt adhesive get's everywhere!. 😵‍💫
Ok, I'm ranting, so I've decided to 'take the day off' and give myself a rest from all that stuff and play some ED!

Let's see where I've got to on my exploration trip...🤔
I'm about 4200ly's out from the bubble in the systems NGC 4609 Sectors, and also near the borders with the Phyluwyg* Systems. Presently in NGC 4609 Sector NV-Y C16-2.
Plenty of undiscovered systems around here Tyre's! :D

There's 2 metallic ringed gas giants in this system and after I'd mapped one of them it revealed a good crop of Platinum hotspots plus quite a number of Monazite, Serendibite and Rhodplumsite too....so Ill be mining for a few hours I think today....(until I get bored).
There is only one landable bio planet, but after checking it out and scanning only three bio signs were present, but nothing I'd not discovered before.

*Phyluwyg...I mean, how do you pronounce some of these names!

Jack :)

  1. Go into the galaxy map and rotate it so that you have a plan view and the grid pretty much horizontal and vertical then zoom out so you can see the nearest rim and your location is in the middle. Now pick a system on or near the rim that is roughly in the four or five o’clock position and head towards it.
  2. Get a list of galactic regions and head for one you have never been to.
  3. Head to 2MASS J05405172-0226489 and watch the Orion colonies growing.

One can excuse the procgen systems occasionally being a little difficult to remember...

... but this one, a bunch of astronomers in the 20th Century sat down and decided the exact coordinates would also do as a "name." I guess they went on a "no-one cares about brown dwarfs anyway" theory.
Well after a while it becomes difficult to come up with names when your survey, 2MASS in this case found over 300,000,000 objects.

The NPC names are great, i see al lot of names from books, movies ans series.
Mainly Science Fiction and Fantasy.
Indeed!

There's some classics on @Ozric 's thread for "Funny or Famous NPC Names".

One I personally found that, for some reason, amused me perhaps more than it should was:

Still a truly bizarre one, that one :D

That reminds me though, I do need to go through some recent screenshots and see if I have any to add to the thread really.

Finally back home in Sol after a stop at Shenve to see engineer Sedesi. The first signs of civilization in over 10KLy.

Over 72M in cartographic data and 850M in Stratum data. For the number of system jumps, I call that a bust. Now I know where not to go! Only found 7 Stratum with First Footfall. Did manage about 30 system First to Discover. Made it to Pioneer rank, one away from Elite.

I've noticed that ED Exploration Buddy isn't keeping up with the stats. I sold a lot more than what it said I had found. It currently says a total of 402M for the trip, when I sold 850M in exo data alone! It was accurate on listing bodies in a system though.

Also, I tried using Spansh for locating Stratum once at 5K, and I found no FF. None. It was pointing me to every Stratum that already had FF. It's great for locating Stratum, but it fails to locate stuff not scanned yet. All that I found was in plotting routes in ED. The region wasn't a very good area. East-SouthEast from the Bubble up to about 6K has been worked hard!

Started the trip with just over 1B credits. I'm now at 1.93B. Financially, not bad, but I can see where it can be A LOT better.

Time to focus on engineers Sedesi and Jameson invites.

The trouble generally with all the third party tools is that they get their data from automatic or manual data dumps from players which means if the tool knows about a system someone has already been there.
This the inherent problem with road to riches guides, the basic rewards are there but the bonuses generally went to the author or the first user.

No Lori Jameson for me!

"Dangerous" combat rank required. I don't do combat.

Also requires "Elite" rank in Combat, Trade, or Exploration for Shinrarta Dezhra permit. I'll reach exploration Elite, but the others? Not going to happen. I trade only when I have to, and I never do combat.
Yeah, I've only got Elite in exploration. It's the easiest in my experience, but not everyone has the same playstyle. Maybe Elite in trade is easy if you're a big mining fan.

I do feel like doing some exploration though.

And that Shinrarta permit is really handy. Jameson has basically become my immobile fleet carrier where I store and outfit my ships.

I just watched an AI generated video of a car show that had people being interviewed about their thoughts on electric vehicles. The entire thing was generated -- the huge showroom, people wandering around, various cars, and then this interviewer asking people their thoughts. I watched it, looking vainly for anything that was clearly wrong.

Nothing. The voices, the people, their faces, their reactions, the cars, the wandering people in the background, the lighting... everything seemed real to me. But none of it was real.

This is scary in a way -- we soon won't be able to believe our eyes and ears. Yikes.

But what about gaming? Will we get companions and adversaries that look genuine, to be part of our gaming worlds? Imagine jumping out of your ship and going to talk to the people in the concourse and they actually can respond? They can tell you about the mission, and explain why they need it done, etc. Stuff like that?

Part of me is worried, and part of me is excited. These are strange times, indeed.

It's on X, so I'll spoiler it.
