Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

same as signing up one side just sign up for the other side.i always sign up for two.im not on this cg as im stuck out in the black, make sure you are hand in combat bonds to the right faction, probaly at a different station in the system.hard to explain not being there.
These recent CGs have prevented us signing up for both sides so if you want to switch you have to abandon your current side, losing any rewards from that one, and sign up to the other side.

Since I returned to the game, that's the first thing I've read that makes me think on-foot stuff might be worthwhile (y).

Not saying I'm gonna do it, though :)
Now that FDev made material rewards for on foot missions better, it becomes possible within my attention span to engineer a suit and a rifle from grade 1 to 5. I still have not bothered with personal equipment engineers for the additional effects (lets call them) that can be added. That starts to require you to be a burglar and possibly murder to get some gaffa tape and cat media or whatever.
I seem to enjoy on foot conflict zones while on "holiday" in Colonia, but never seem to get tempted by them in the bubble. I need a reason to fight for a side in the bubble.

Hey, I'm trying to do some ground CZ stuff, and I got a few kills in my first battle, turned in the combat bonds, but they did not count for the CG. I am signed up, so...

What was the secret you figured out?
I had chosen the side that didn't give progress when I handed in the bonds to the wrong er... hand in.

So...

I signed up to "Imperial Campaign Targets Archon Delaine in Beta-3 Tucani". Then, at Frontline, I selected the "Youbee Dpminion" faction to fight for. Then, hand the bonds in through the combats option on board my ship at Bakewell. Not the Frontline chap.

If I had chosen the other option for the CG i.e. "Delaine Targets Imperial Forces in Beta-3 Tucani" I would have to select the "Kumo Council" faction and hand in bonds at The Mictlan (again, on board ship).

I think I have that right.

Well, I figured out my mistake and managed to get some contributions to count. I had signed up wrong and then fought for the wrong side. What a noob.

Anyway, it's working now. And I need 10 CZs to unlock Hero Ferrari, so I guess this all counts for that too. I guess. :p

Ahh, very much the same thing I did. Now I feel a bit less dumb :p

Now I know, it's obvious. But before that I thought I'd shed a load of brain cells overnight :D

To be fair, I did think it was a little confusing.

I decided to buy a Mandalay for the alt. I've never bought one on my main. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but so far I like it quite a bit. It handles nicely, and the cockpit view is pretty cool. It's bigger to land than the Cobra MKV, but I didn't have any problems with the couple of planetary landings I did.

I'm at the "no engineers unlocked" stage. I have to do a lot of running around to unlock a few things. I want more FSD range at the very least.

Anyway, I'm pleased with how playable the game still is, even without engineering.

After starting the alt 2 days ago, I've been able to acquire 2 ships (beyond the free Sidey, so 3 all together). I have about 56 million in free credits. I was able to participate in the CG, and the reward for that will more than double my credit balance.

All in all I'm having a lot of fun as a newbie (admittedly, a newbie who knows the game pretty well).

I changed it when I was dithering about deciding whether to just disappear. There's no way to suspend or delete a forum account without going to support and I couldn't be bothered with that!
I can't imagine that you've said anything more stupid or annoying than anything I've said on here.
I've never understood why commanders search for bios from the cockpit, there is an external camera with zoom capabilities. I fly at 200 m at 20 m/s and pan around from under my ship, it's too easy. 🤷‍♂️
Using the camera sounds way too fiddly. I'd rather just risk crashing my ship. 😌

to make a noob mistake on a cg,a while back i signed up collected a few million in bounties only to realise it was combat bounds for the cz they wanted lol,i lost 2 days of the cg haha, thats a noob mistake.

The mandalay is my new fave ship. Admittedly, I did go pre-built but it does 71LYs with (iirc) all main modules A rated. And the SCO makes it less of a chore to reach those bodies ten of Kylies away.

Landing in tight spots is... awkward though.

I call this one "Scaring the Enemy" in a bid to lower their morale:

I think it worked as I seem to have made the top 25% in the CG already.

This feels a bit strange as I've not really done all that much. Mind you, I bet the "Top 10 CMDRs" tier is absurdly high.
You do know https://inara.cz/elite/communitygoals/ ? No need to bet that much. Depending on who you're fighting for, 25% starts as low as 25 MCr. - but for the top ten you 'd better rack up a billion.

Hi :)

On a different subject, isn't it annoying how on some planets rocks have evolved to look just like stratum tectonicas when viewed from the cockpit of a slow-moving ship 😄

I'm not so much annoyed as puzzled...in the sense of graphics options settings. I'm presuming the 'Model draw distance' setting allows the terrain to be rendered further out or in?
I've got it set on the slider as far right, I'm just assuming this means it's at it's maximum draw distance...or am I mistaken? At the moment terrain just seems to suddenly materialise seemingly out of nowhere some distance ahead when I'm 'airborne'. Once I've landed the larger bio's like for example Osseus or Tubus then stay visible for a kilometre or more into the distance around the ship. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, it gets a bit difficult to differentiate some rocks from strata at a distance, I agree.:)

On a similar note, I've come across terrain that's pretty basic looking on some planets, while on anther planet for example the geology looks really authentic with the ground / rocks taking an almost stratified appearance, add to that a good rendered tenuous atmosphere and it looks good.

I'm wondering if the Frontier devs are still tinkering around with this to some degree. I came across another planet that had loads of volcano looking structures, and they weren't small either. The outline of them was still sort of basic looking but It was the first time I've seen this. The pyramid shape with a central hole/ vent was there in most of them.
I thought at the time that with a little bit more work in outer detail and add some periodic lava spouting (higher than the 'small' volcanic vents we see at the moment) plus some steam, pyroclastic flows, and maybe some large lava flows, that would pretty much cover a more 'realistic' geological event / feature.
The central 'holes' btw were quite big enough to lower / pilot a Mandalay down some of them, perhaps an even bigger ship. The surface was covered with them as far as the eye could see!

What am I doing...Another round of hauling today for that planet surface based station...I've got commodities collected to get roughly 50% complete atm, so same as yesterday, a couple of hours trucking then do something in the game completely different (For my sanity!).
Though 🤔... at some point today I've got to dig up some beetroot, cook it and pickle it. ;)
Jack :).

Haha, well if you do, check out the best guide first, to learn the basics of how guards aggro and what you need to do.

I have found that the on-foot missions are in general very well designed, with lots of things that can happen and lots of things that can go wrong if you aren't paying attention. Some of the base layouts are very difficult to penetrate without raising the alarms. You can't just run in there guns blazing, that's for sure.

I should point out that I love stealth games, and so I gravitate toward the Covert stuff in the on-foot gameplay. It is some of the best stealth gaming I've ever had.

The non-mission stuff (the on-foot CGs) is also fun, but in a different way. It's more like Capture the Flag. It can be very exciting though.
I try to be stealthy whenever possible.
Sometimes it fails and i have to run for the hills or blast my way out.
I still have a lot of engineering to do on my weapons and suits.

I'm liking it more than I expected. It handles nicely, and has a great view.

I decided to see how quickly I could unlock Farseer and get my FSD up to grade 5 jump range.

First step -- find a meta-alloy.

This turned out to be easy, because I heard they are just floating in space around the Titan wrecks. So went to Leijong, since it was near me.

There's just rubble left, nothing caustic. I found a meta-alloy right away.

The only problem I had was dropping in close to it. For some reason the ship would not lock onto the location when I hit "J", so I had to emergency drop and then fly over.

This is the view, approaching the dead Titan:

Felicity looks a bit haggard these days. Time catches up with us all.

I was wondering how long it would take me to gather the mats.

I went to visit Jameson's crash and filled up on Encoded stuffs.

Then I visited the crashed Anaconda on Orerre 2b and grabbed a bunch of G4 raw material.

I dropped into an HGE that just happened to pop up near me as I was cruising along. It contained over 100 Military Supercapacitors, so that was then end of searching for Manufactured!

I hit up the Material Traders near Deciat and was able to get everything for the FSD increased-range mod, and even enough for the Mass Manager experimental.

So in about 2.5 hours I had everything. Amazing, really, compared to how it was in the days of yore :p

I don't have the guardian FSD booster yet, but my Mandalay now does 56 LY or so, which is certainly more than enough. I have done nothing to reduce weight, and in fact I have A-rated everything. I could squeeze more range out of it, but I'm not gonna. I like A-rated gear.

I decided to paint her a nice, glossy black.

Next I will upgrade the FSD on my Cobra MKV, and then I'll have 2 fine ships for various tasks. Not a bad start :)
