Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Nor am I but my ancestors were from back in the long ago. A mix of English and Irish ancestry and more recently there was some Cherokee tossed in the mix for good measure. Guess I'm just a mongrel of sorts..

Wouldn't make me wonder if there would as well be some german in there - germans came to america in several waves over a span of several centuries and nearly all northern americans i know (which are not native americans) can claim some german ancestry as well. Especially in the northern states of the US and south-western provinces of Canada.

Edit: It's funny what comes out when you make a gene test about your ancestry. My roots are mainly in north-western parts of Asia and the Balkan area in Europe. Well and a slight bit of scandinavian influence as well. I pretty much look like this as well, the beauty of russian women mixed with swedish ones and the fiery nature of balkan women - that's basically me.

Sorry to post so quickly twice to this thread but something just popped up I've never seen before... is this common? I'm wondering if it's worth going for... only about 244 lys away.

Right, so I'm at the coordinates but there's a crashed ship there inside a trespass zone. All the goodies look to be in there too. There are skimmers flying around and I can hear a Thargoid noise. What should I do now? Can't see any dats terminals, just a cargo rack.

Kill everything.
No witnesses!:D

From the tip-off info you got, there should be a ships data core - you will see it on your scanner and it shows up in the HUD too. You might need to be within 50m of it to detect it though - and of course you need to be within 50m to scan it.

Shoot the cargo rack for element mats.

Run through to pick up cannisters.

Don't know if you will get a bounty / fine - I didn't the last time but that was in an anarchy system.

I think all "visitors" at crash sites are just window-dressing but if you have dismissed your ship then you won't see rebuy screen even if SRV is destroyed.

I do various missions for the AEDC to keep me busy, if and when there are none conducive to my play style. I work on getting allied with any and all the various Alliance systems and stations which have mission conducive to my style of play.

Found the core and scanned it but got nothing except a comms about the commander...

There was a 'goid scanner rolling around and, as I've never seen one before , I scooped it. Now I know what anti corrosive racks are for as it damaged my data scanner on my SRV and I can't repair it.

Did find some yttrium on some outcrops.

All in all, a pretty disappointing tip off.

1. Look in your transactions page - should be a data / intel package listed there.

2. Those probes / sensors are why people have corrosion resistant racks - your SRV will normally be repaired on boarding your ship - don't haul the probe. :)

You found your 1st Thargoid item and its disappointing? There are loads of cool things it does if you do more than treat it like cargo

Well, no, not my first. But then, I didn't meet any now either - just some Thargoidy noises. No flying cabbages alas but three skimmers ready to incinerate my fragile SRV if I stepped over the line :D

EDIT: woah... just looked at my transactions. That's a hefty packet! Do I need to hand that in somewhere special of just at any station?

With these off-limits areas on planets, I have the suspicion, that those are pretty much always generated somewhere in the vicinity of where you land - regardless where you land. On every planet, where I landed so far, such an area was somewhat nearby, normally with some kind of wreckage and 3 skimmers protecting it.

Any station contacts will happily pay you for it. (See, it wasn't as naff as you thought. ;) )

Random POI occur on all bodies, most have "trespass zones". Some of these POI are "stashes" of stuff, some are wreckage-linked, some are downed probes and some are surface mining installations. There are other types but they tend to be persistent (or semi-persistent mission-related). You can't tell these days whether skimmers, stingers and defence turrets are "Wanted" or not (a fudge to stop skimmer massacre mission stacking). However, some of the cannisters will be legal salvage but some will not be - you have to check before scooping them up.

... And you would be correct!

They are random, transient, and can spawn anywhere. I've occaisonally met with a crashed ship or even a suspiciously stationary live one on the surface of worlds thousands of light years from the nearest inhabited system, though more rarely than in the bubble.

No death dandelions on this occasion? How much did you get for the scan? Inquiring minds, and all that :)

1.1m... not bad! A couple of cannisters, another downed ship whose data scan got me 4k :D Beers all round provided I make back in one piece - Ray's in about an hour?

I started looking at what engineer to unlock next when I realised I had an invite from Marsha Hicks.

Great!

Er... Where? HOW far? Sorry, m'lady, not anytime soon. And what if I wanted to pin a different blueprint? Lawks!

Lol yes there are a fair few air miles involved in getting them all up and running. I don't have a full set, yet, but my approach has been to move most of my fleet (at least T10, Keelback, Cobra, T6 and Challenger) to a system within a jump of the engineer (I fly there in the T10, ship the rest), then set up shop there for a while and spend time on varied gameplay, maxing my rank with the engineer and engineering all of the ships while also doing local missions, trading, combat, mats gathering. I found a great five station trading route one jump away from Deciat and made 100m banked cash, maxed Felicity and engineered all five ships and it didn't feel like a slog. Got my combat rank up to Master and didn't even notice as it was in the margins. Took some of the sting out of the engineering grind. Have done the same for The Dweller, Elvira Martuuk and The Blaster, off to another one in my next session. Only really scratched the surface but moving my home base the region around those four engineers in turn has meant I got to continue what I would have been doing anyway and stopped engineering feel like either a grind or a lot of travel. Only issue is the quantity of mats needed to do entire fleets at once. I love my Courier, Clipper and T7 yet haven't engineered any of them at all, yet. I think an engineered Clipper might become the only ship I ever need, so trying to spread around the love while my head is available for turning. Loving the Alliance Challeger at the moment.

But... But... But... 22klys for an engi that only does G1? Her business model needs reviewing! :D

It's just about 12 hours of flying :) Start on saturday 7pm and you will finish right before breakfast time sunday morning. Then fill your belly with a full english (a good one, with pork&lamb sausages) and then go to bed.

Yeah... not my cup if tea, hehe.

Seriously though, what would be the cost of transferring all my main ships once I'd arrived in my DBX? I'm talking pretty well kitted out AspX, T6, Clipper, Krait and Vulture (my other ships could stay at home). Then there's the return.

And eventually I'll get a Conda and have to trek back.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not moaning or trying to apply a salty seasoning - I just don't think, personally, it's something I'd want to do. I'm more or less content with what I have.

Now, if she offered a G5 scoop that increased suck rate by 200%... well, maybe I'd think about taking the trip :D
