Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I agree with Codger, having a go at a Buckyball or two can really help your piloting skills, the one or two a year I have done have helped mine a lot that said I have studied training videos that some of them have done and can still barely see how they do some of the stuff. But it is great fun and if you can't be the best you can always try and pick up an honourable mention for something such as most inappropriate ship or most spectacular crash though IIRC that one is usually grabbed by one of the regulars.

And congratulations on your century Tyres.

I've had a fair amount of experience with the Buckyball crew, having joined a few races and lost terribly. The top guys can reallllly fly, like...superhuman stuff. I've seen it myself, and it amazes me what they can do!

That said, I think trying to do any of the Buckyball races will improve your own flying a lot. I know it has mine (even though I'm still at the bottom of the list, I'm better than I was! lol).

So don't just pass by those illuminating posts by Alec, etc. Join up! You'll have fun, at the very least.
Just a quickie to say that we have our first race of 3305 starting on the 12th Jan and running until the 22nd. Forum thread should be going up on Thursday at which point I'll change my forum sig to point at it and I'll also update buckyballracing.org.uk. Hope to see some of you folks there.

Anybody else thinks that Phantom is probably the closest thing to Millenium Falcon we're going to get?
I mean, it's flat, kind of round-ish, the cockpit placement is similar to the unmodded YT freighter, there's the thruster "bar",... :)

I agree.

Mind you, mine isn't exactly built for speed so she won't do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

It took me quite a while to understand that fitting smaller modules could make sense. I do it all the time now, but yeah, I know what you mean! :)

Found this "ringed navel orange" today. I just thought it was cool looking.

And on the surface I found these:

Another tiny notch in my Codex :)

Speaking of Anaconda's, it appears I can now afford one. Can't A rate all the necessary stuff as well but could make it semi-decent.

The thing is, do I really want one? I honestly don't think so at this point; the large ships are unappealing to my current game play style.

I may try to complete my armada of small and medium boats before going large. And I want to get a handle on mining.

So much to do...

Nobody needs an Anaconda. It's a meme of a ship. Plus it unbalances the whole game. Hate it. Grr.

:D

In all seriousness, though, if you like smaller ships, Conda is the worst ship you can choose, tbh. Buy a Beluga, instead. Or T10.

Beluga!? How very dare you!

:D

Seriously though, I might look into one of them as I've not done much passenger stuff at all. I have a Dolphin but it sits around doing nothing but thank me for all the fish.

Um, just think of the joy to get this thing through the mail slot - do you really want to have to do that?

For those not doing the super power unlock the Anaconda was the ship to aim for only the T9 could carry more and before it got buffed it wasn't that much better and the Anaconda was the exploration ship for the commander who had to take everything.

Now the T9 carries much more than the Anaconda and jumps better than it used to, plus many of its rivals in other roles have become much better so although it is stil an iconic ship in many ways it is now one of the big 6 not the big 3.

Gidday All,
Loving the new updates, became an Elite Trader just before the release, Made Admiral and Duke, so paid for a big fat imperial cutter...yes its's black.
Today I just blew upapart my first rock, best material was 1 unit of Musgravite, sold on for about 320k cr ... this was done in my new python mining fittout.
So not ready for distant worlds 2, but close to an Elite explorer ranking...working on it..
as small video at this blog link ..

Well played, Chris! :D

I'd get an Orca for your style if you don't one already over a 'Conda....especially if you have passenger-hauling plans. Such a great ship, and can do a lot of things as far as passenger and exploration, and makes a great long-range sightseeing vessel.

I only gave in and bought the Conda for the jump range. If I sneeze it will fall to bits.
I still don't have an FDL.
If the concensus is that a ship is rubbish, no use, broken design... I'll probably buy it!:D

I'm still doing missions around Sol to get my Fed rank. I did a source and return mission last night that resulted in a NPC pirate interdiction. It was rated expert, but since I A-rated my python and had it outfitted as an armed trader I figured I could take him on so I submitted. I started the fight with a Fer-de-Lance, and I was holding my own, when two more showed up and started to hammer me, in spite of the fact that the system authority ships had joined the fight by now. I ended up high waking out to another system to repair my ship, and then I came back to complete my mission. I avoided any possibility if interdiction by heading at max throttle toward my destination and doing the loop of shame. It's a great way to keep pirates of my back without having to play the interdiction mini game. I successfully docked and complete my mission.

Just as I was getting a bit bored with finding only Bark Mounds in every Biological POI, I ran across this bizarre little planet.

It has lovely pink smoke around some fumaroles.

And it has these very interesting Blattinus Bioluminescent Anemones. These are the first non-Bark-Mound biologicals I've ever found myself. Of course others have already discovered the species, but this particular site is my own discovery. I'm pretty happy with that :) And check out that cool nebula in the sky.

Unfortunately for you purchase plans the Anaconda isn't rubbish, it is just not as awesome to use as it looks when you see others using one.

The thing with the Anaconda is the sneeze thing is almost true especially if you run it as an ultralight weight shieldless trading build, one bad takeoff or landing and it can fall to pieces.

Well, thanks! Here's a couple more :)

A forbidding landscape:

Highway to the stars:

I'm 27,000LY away from the bubble at the moment. It's nice, for now.

Hm, I really wonder what gives the surface of the first one such a greenish appearance. The second one reminds me a bit of Zeta Pictoris - the only orbital station in that system orbits around a planet with a ring in about the distance of the inner ring of your 2nd picture. It makes always for a nice approach to the station, especially because there is another larger planet with a much larger ring system "nearby", which is so large compared to the target system, that one is really surprised when getting near to the destination, that it is a station in the orbit of a much smaller planet, which still has a ring system - I find systems like this fascinating.
