Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Good luck with th Guardian FSD unlock! That is my next task after sorting out the Prof :)

I think it will have to wait until the weekend before I do it, but I am looking forward to that :)

We did it last night and it was a blast. Good group of guys. Ya know, I never would have done this on my own. I may have tried, but I would have failed. We had a group of four, and that made all the difference. Flood lighting of all the ships, all with point defence with tracers everywhere. Charging the pylons was a breeze with everyone pre-positioned. In the end I got two Guardian blueprints, one for FSD booster, and one for shield booster. Then flew back to the bubble and installed a class 3 FSD booster which took my DBX to 66 jump.

Good stuff!

Now to sprinkle these things around my fleet :)

Putting off the install... I am not a brave man :D

Just bought the new "Eden" COVAS - going to see how she fares.

Also, another thing... I was gathering some selenium (yes, I found a piece!) and then picked up a canister of gold and one of moissinite (or something). I noticed that, if retracted an open cargo scoop or deployed a closed one, the canisters would jettison. Does that sound right?

No. You probably have the "open cargo scoop" bound together with "jettison all cargo" button. :D

Right I'm going back to Robigo in ma Pyfon.
G5 mats, credits exploration rank.
Three for the price of one.
Bogtwof?

Encoded mats: full.
Raw mats:Full.
G5 manufactured: Sigh.

Really struggling to find HGEs. Any HGEs.

HGE's are a PITA now....it's great you can FSS a system to try to precisely locate them, but I preferred just cruising a system and they'd pop up. Somedays were better than others in that method, but it always seemed to yield better than what I'm getting now. It's seems very inconsistent, even in a 'qualifying' system that meets criteria for where you would normally find HGE's.

Okay, done ing lol.

I had so much fun just now.

My joystick got plugged into a knackered USB slot (my fault) so the comp didn't see it. So, when I loaded ED, the binds were all missing and the game loaded it's default.

Can you guess what I've been doing? My backup was > 3 months old: that'll learn me.

Between HGE hunting and losing bindings, this has become the ED Torture Thread.

I'm sorry Tyres....that really sucks. I feel your pain being a HOTAS guy now and realizing it took hours on Christmas Day to set those. Uggggh....

I have contracted a mild case of space madness, and have spent a few eagles hooning. This led to the inevitable brig scenario,(unlawful discharge of ordnance, speeding, etc)
They were kind enouph to allow me to spend a few more razzing the station. This evening i have been mostly flying backwards upside down trying to avoid the ground. With some success,i might add.Only 3 so far and one small fine.Odd though this course of treatment may seem,i do feel better for it,though it is rather wasteful of a very fine craft.

Spent a pleasant evening getting Daffodil engineered to G5 Cold Drive, and then realising that I need to set 0 pips to engines now if I want to do any low speed manoeuvering :O It goes like stuff off a shovel, so I can only guess how my Krait is going to respond to G5 Dirty drives with drag modification!!!

I dropped in to an HGE that appeared in front of me (RNGesus smiled upon me, obviously :) ) and then thought “I wonder how it looks if I hit boost from a zero speed standing start with the nose pointed out on a clear path through the wreckage?”. Well, if you ever want an illustration of just how fast your ship can move after engineering, I thoroughly recommend giving it a go [haha] Everything just zipped past me in about a second!

I have also been having thoughts about getting Voice Attack... It appeals to me more and more that I look into it, especially since there is a Brian Blessed and a Hattie Hayridge HCS pack available. Before I get too excited, does it require a lot of expensive stuff, eg headset, VA itself, etc? And if anyone uses it, do you think it is as fun and enjoyable as it seems to be to me?

Compared to the racing version of an Imperial Eagle (666m/s normal 887m/s boost) it will be fairly sedate.

You do need to have a paid version of VA - but it is well worth it.

You need a mic, that is all the extra hardware required. If you normally play in a headset then you will have no issues, if you use speakers then you may have to experiment to ensure your mic doesn't trigger VA from your game audio or HCS responses. (I use 5.1 speakers and experimented a lot with microphones, finally plumping for a dynamic cardioid that I used for voice work anyway.)

I have a load of HCS packs, apart from D.A.R.K. (which is a Spock impersonator {well I assume it isn't really Nimoy}) they are all female - Eden is my favourite, Jazz least - Cleo (Hatty) is good but I wouldn't have her "on the bridge" every trip.

Buy the Ship's Parrot - set it to profane and have a good old chortle.

I went daft during a sale, that is why I have so many but I am glad I have them as I can have completely different crew assignments when I want.

Oh yes, nearly forgot your last question - YES, I truly love VA with HCS - makes the game even better than you already know it is.

Marvellous, thank you!

I have a ye-olde 2 speaker plus sub-woofer arrangement at the moment, and no microphone of any sort. Which makes me think that I might need a headset with a mic to make the best use of it. If you have any recommendations for whatwould work best, please let me know :)

I took a look at the Ship’s Parrot, I can definitely see that one being on board in the future [haha]

The way in which multiple packs work together is very impressive, there must have been a lot of work gone into producing it all. It doesn’t seem that long ago (well, in my mind, anyway ;) ) that it was amazing to hear any form of speech synthesis at all from a computer, and the idea of it actually responding to voice commands was very much in “Star Trek” territory!

Microphone - just try using whatever you have around. I have a range of mics due to doing Amateur Radio, PA for local events, etc. The current model of the mic I have settled on for my VA use in E D is https://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-XM8500-Ultravoice-Cardioid-Microphone/dp/B0002KZAKS/ but I have mixer desks and USB interfaces for other stuff I do so that mic might not suit your setup.

If you decide to use headphones then just about anything would work - I have Bose noise-cancelling ones I use late at night with the DTS-X enabled in Elite (turning off the speaker system to prevent disturbing neighbours) and keep using the same mic. I also have HyperX Cloud II which I use for flight sims (voice chat there comes via comms channel so can be separate from main audio) - it is very comfortable and has a really good boom mic. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00SAYCXWG/

EDIT - Note that you don't need to spend the sort of money the above stuff costs - I just have them anyway for other reasons. You can happily run VA with HCS using much lower cost stuff.

Finished(ish) the Rescue T9, definitely back in business now.

Currently at Watanabe Station grabbing salvage and escape pods.

Salvage missions are back!
Okay, they don't pay well, the mats are not great, but... I enjoy flying the T9, love the gameplay.

This morning: G5 Dirty Driving my Krait “La Piuma Al Vento”, or at least as far as I can go before needing a visit to a mat trader. Also, being a bit puzzled as to why The Oracle in Delphi doesn’t have a Universal Cartographics facility.

This afternoon: Watching a splendid performance of “Don Pasquale” whilst enjoying a few cups of tea.

This evening: Mulled wine, a gently burning stove, and a mix of guitar practice and Beethoven string quartets.

Yes sir, it is the rock-and-roll no-holds-barred rollicking lifestyle for me these days, let me tell you. ;)
