Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

1. As for the risk, only you can answer that. People have circumnavigated the Galaxy without shields, and heavily shielded Anacondas have fallen at the first waypoint (ok, that 3.3 g planet right at the beginning may have been a teensy bit too heavy...). As for the actual numbers, try them at e.g. coriolis. A 3A shield will give you 113 MJ, the G5 Enhanced Low Power mod will increase that to 125 MJ while halving the shield gen mass, an E-rated shield booster with heavy duty mod (2 tons total) will increase that again to 180 MJ. You don't need a bi-weave as Explorer, unless you want to ram several planets in a short time.
I'd use the 3C A with enhanced low power and no booster. Then again, I wouldn't use an AspX.

2. Yes - 50% boost, longer recharge time and more mass. Or, if you have internals to spare, you could add Guardian shield boosters (more grave robbing).

3. Definitely. You'll notice when you're 20 kly out. Seriously? See above - you don't need fast charging (i.e. bi-weave) shields if you only want to bump planets, those are ususally (ok, there's one exception) moving slowly.

Thank you very much indeed, everyone :)

I will go for an outfitting trip to get the 5H FSD booster and the 3A Shield Gen. I certainly don't intend going out for a pint and a fight in her, at least not unless people are afraid of a mining laser ;-) The bi-weaves are a hang-over from when I first started playing, and thought the rapid re-charge rate might be helpful.

A smaller booster?? Perish the thought :D I did actually mess about with that idea at Coriolis, but was somewhat underwhelmed by the difference it made compared to the re-fitting necessary. Maybe I'm just being a bit greedy :)

The Krait Phantom never appealed to me for some reason. I love the lines of the Asp, and the "Lancaster on a bombing run" sound that it makes when flying above strange new worlds. Besides, I spent 12 months in the Asp before; it feels homely, and it has gained an affectionate place in my fleet because of it. Sentimental, I know, but ships can do that, I think :)

When you want a fast shield engineer with the Fast Charge special it is a great help.

I completed my outfitting of Hecla as described above, thanks again to all who assisted on my cogitations :)

Before I set off though, I took my Viper IV, Gwynt Y Ddraig out for a spot of cleaning up the local High Res. In the process, I took out a Dangerous Fer-de-Lance, that was piloted by the character you can see in the screenshot below. I was wondering if I should name the Viper Cark Mhapman instead ;) (I know, that was bad, sorry :D )

Wew. Well, one of the two wars is down. Traffic in the system went crazy while the war was active, and I can't put all of that down to the weekend spike, so someone got mad about it. They even won a couple of days when I wasn't pushing hard. No idea who I upset 'cause the place was a complete backwater before I started and nobody seemed to care when I was hoovering up all the little installations from the other minor factions in the system. Oh well, I won anyway and I won't care too much if anyone tries to take it back, it's not that great a system. Only went there 'cause it was low traffic and I figured nobody would care, and when the traffic spike hit I was like "oh no you don't get to completely abandon a station and complain now when someone else moves in" :p

edit: while I was parked at one of my other stations that I've flipped, I saw another cmdr on the pad, then they reappeared in a shiny new T10 that was previously unavailable at that station. Which was nice.

I'm sort of an end gamer right now; having plenty of fully engineered ships for specific purposes and around 4bn credits.
I've been away from the game for almost half a year. Tried to go after some more credits when fleet carriers were being developed for an earlier release. When that got postponed I lost my lust again.

I want to come back to the universe but I don't have motivation, anything new & different & intriguing going on for the last 6 months or so?
Not interested in bug fixing patches as well, they sound like they don't offer much though.

Well, Wednesday night, after a week or so running Ceos/Sothis Rep+++ to Rep+++++ missions, I finally made Rear Admiral...Still about 80% away from Elite in Trade. I might convert the Python back to mining config and head out for a quick $100+ million painite haul to finish it off.

Funny, all this time I was thinking, "Man, when I finally make Rear Admiral, I can get a Corvette and REALLY start to cash in..." But after looking at the Corvette's price (187.9 million or 155.2 million in a Li Yong-Rui system), and then in my head probably tripling that cost or better to make it a true ship of the line, I got to thinking...Maybe when I hit a couple billion or three...I don't really need it now, I am happy with my currently fleet of 4...

But the rank is nice to have...only been at the game since April...playing steadily but not excessively. All good things come in due time I guess.

Take Care and have a Safe Holiday Season (and for those who don't do Holidays, Just be safe anyway! )

From 5th to 16th December there will be a global discount on Fed ships, due to the Feds 'winning' the last CG.
I don't know how much it will be, but it will hopefully stack.

Li Yong-Rui 15%
Elite 2.5%
Fed discount. ??%

If it stacks I might buy a couple of Vettes from Ray Gateway, Diaguandri.

My journey back from the Stellar Unknown expedition is going slowly. I left Sag A* and I'm just taking a straight path back to the Pleiades. I'm not exploring anymore as I'm a little burned out so I'm just jump/scoop/honking my way back which is boring but I just want to get home. I haven't had much time to play so the progress has been slow and I still have about 250 jumps to go.
