Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It was an "Aquila Class Tanker". Nothing much happened. But I lacked the gear needed to do scan stuff for data or whatever. Still, they're fun to fly around as they are pretty unique looking.

We need more different looking stuff. For instance, given Jameson is for the elite, it could with a makeover to make look more "special".

I guarantee that things will happen if you start scanning stuff :D

I agree about Jameson. Given how “elite” and secretive the Pilot’s Federation is, I would have expected some grand masonic lodge affair, maybe with some ornamentation, mystic symbols, and a so forth on arrival. Maybe some different greetings as well, recognising the uniqueness of the place :)

Back from a few days away, just done a quick 'out and back' to a system I had fully discovered before the Beyond exploration changes, to map all the surfaces and take comparison shots of all the planets. Snagged a few unmapped high metal content worlds on the way, and even found an uncharted system right next door - nice 3.75McR bonus for turning that in when I got back to the CaliforniaNebula.

Here's the Waterworld that dropped the biggest share of the loot:

Just gonna freshen my drink and head out there again

Been playing about on Beta, only managed a couple of hours.
I confess, I wasn't really bug testing (Apart from AX CZ).
I was checking out the alleged 'mining nerf'.
I say, grab your towel, don't panic.

Finding the best selling stations will involve a bit more engagement, if you don't want to do that, you will earn a bit less.

Two hours wasn't really long enough, but my son wanted to learn some jazz chords. Nice!

I've just spent 550+ hours in this game, I've got Anaconda, on the way reach to highest rank of Federation. But I wonder that Did I miss something interesting besides complete missions, mining, combat, find materials to upgrade ship, is there anything else?
For exploration, instead of jump and scan, is there any exciting activity of exploration?

Well,it happened!
I switched to econ mode and set off for the BH about 40 jumps away, still picking up sector FD's. 3 jumps in i found my first water world, a couple later my first ELW.The next system over had geo's with another bonus, so things were looking good.Best of all it had standard earth gravity,on the nose.
endpiece.jpg

The terrain was a little bumpy, and it took a while to find a landing zone, but i finally disembarked, conscious of that reassuring drag of 'normality', only staying long enough to scan and collect a couple of samples and admire the view, before heading back to the ship.
sampler returns..jpg

Taking off at a shallow angle,i went looking for more suitable ground, and spotted a crater not far away with a distinctive mound at it's centre which didn't appear too steep. So i landed atop the almost flat surface and started down in the scarab.

mt top.jpg

The incline was at first gentle, the gradient gradually becoming steeper.
Even freewheeling, soon we were bouncing down the mountain at a fast jog.The terrain was beginning to be broken up by small hillocks like waves, and then the first unexpected mogul, lip curling up, and it's only when we are airborne and the flyving starts that i remember that its a steep learning curve and i went over the edge at 1G.
All pips to engines ,desperately fighting for control of the helm, boost and slam, time it just right,c'mon recharge, dammit, slam.
Still just about got it,but the hang time is stetching boost recharge, and then i see the cliff edge approaching and i know this one is going to hurt, but it's still do-able.
mogul.JPG

We're over and free falling, boosting away from the rock face as hard as we can, trying to stay level with the incline, pick your spot and ..slam
Whoops, hull 50% and we're tumbling, the sky and mountain rotating.
A lucky bounce and gentle thrust correction, and we make contact again.
25% hull .Sky mountain plain wrestle each other ,still fighting for control, the level terrain of the crater now tantalisingly close. One more bounce and i think i can make it.

The mountain claims its prize.

There is no story-arc required so no you have not skipped any requirement - this is a "sandbox" after all - you can let your imagination govern your experience or you can join-in with some of the things going on - expeditions, mapping, BGS with a faction, thargoid conflict, interstellar initiatives, etc.

I have to admit, once i'd gone over the edge i was shouting 'booger'* a lot , but by the time i exploded i was resigned to my end.So it was quite a relief to end up back in the cockpit,(i had forgotten about that aspect).
Not being a rabid mershun monnger, i'm quite happy about the result.

I felt good enough to do some flying today. So I did something I’ve been meaning to for quite a while, and pop over to gather bounty vouchers to unlock Todd “The Blaster”. I took Gwynt-y-Ddraig out there, and knocked off the requisite 100K bounties in no time at all, so I headed off to Trophy Camp. He has an interesting base! Quite a few beaten-up Anacondas and T9s scattered about, all with big holes in. I wonder where he gets those from...

Anyway, I had a bit of a chuckle when I read that he had “made his name in CQC”, because I was wondering how he managed to find anyone in it to engage with ;)

Whilst I was there, I got him to fit double-shot screening shells on the frag cannons, and set off to explore Alliance space a bit. I dropped out at “civilian installation” in one system, and was having a bit of a poke about, just using it as an FA-off practice site, when suddenly it all kicked off. A bunch of Fed ne’er-do-wells ppeared, intent on raiding the place, and the local defence forces were a bit on the thin side, so they asked me to help repel boarders...

Oh, that was fun :) :) A real objective, preventing the marauding Feds from getting in to attach limpets, and a target number of ships to kill, plus the arrival of Alliance forces that turned the whole thing into a glorious dog-fight :) I was glad of the heavy reinforcement I had on my Viper, as I ended up with malfunctioning modules and a barely functioning shield, but my hull largely intact. Next time, I might try to avoid taking on the Deadly Anaconda on my own...:D

ORION-CYGNUS ARM:
GREA EAESCS AA-A
This is such an awesome system.Even at full zoom out it wont fit on the screen.

I don't recall ever seeing a ringed star before. And then three come along at once.
But there's more... no less than 5, yes five, black holes.

Here's one of them orbiting another. The forces involved at perielion
must be immense.
YOU dont see this everyday.jpg

Maybe black hole is a misnomer.
There will be more to come on this.

With practice I understand it is possible to synthesise enough repairs during the fall to have a significant chance of surviving.

Personally I take a multiple SRV hanger and drive up from the bottom as that way I won’t have so far to fall.

Been playing on my second account all day - had set out for Colonia before my long break - got as far as Hillary Dock (Port? Landing?). Suicided back to the bubble (don't worry, I sold the 10 crates of Lavian Brandy before I did it!) so I could update my ship (Keelback, now with racing spoiler, sensor booms, mysterious fuselage pods, a fresh new paint job, and a new COVAS (Carina)).

Then spent the day flying back out there, taking in Lupus Dark Region, the little nameless nebula near there and as many unmapped metal rich worlds as I could find, along with a smattering of uncharted systems, netting me a cool 7McR in Exploration payouts when I hit the pad at Hillary again. And thats only the first 300 LY!

xb2Ao2P.png

And this time I've got 20 crates of Lavian Brandy in the hold, and I'm not gonna sell 'em 'til I hit Colonia this time!

EDIT: For the avoidance of doubt, and anyone getting stranded/thwarted/annoyed by acting on the false Colonia info above, Blu Thua AI-A C14-10, the system where you will find Hillary Depot landing facility (no shipyard, btw) is actually 2048.95ly from LHS 3447 in The Bubble, not 300ly as stated above (it was late, I was tired, I failed at numbers!).

Colonia itself is a further 20112.76ly from there, though there are a number of locations with landing pads in between, if you are looking for some respite en-route.

Thinking of building a new short range explorer, i love the look of the keelback, plus i imagine flying a fighter is pretty fun too over planets or in between asteroid fields

Might add some point defence turrets if they can be equipped on the belly side of the ship
