Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

But I honestly don't want to go back there. I like being able to make faster credits, because the real progression in my eyes is the Engineering. That's when you really start to customize your ships to make them perfect for you, and that's where all the intricacies of loadouts and stuff happens, which I really enjoy.
True, but slower progression through ships doesn't clash with engineering progression at all. It would do quite the opposite, I'd say.

The problem right now is that you can have all ships in the game in about two days worth of playtime. And after that, the engineering is the ONLY thing to give you the sense of progression and honestly, it just forces people to grind.

But I see where are you coming from.

Wow. Two consecutive hyperdictions. A first for me!

Jeepers, have only ever seen one alien, never been hyperdicted, must be fun. Afterwards.

I bought an Anaconda last night. Size of the modules threw me - I had an A rated, engineered set from my Beluga but they're generally a size smaller than the Anaconda needs - so jump range isn't amazing (actually, it's 15ly, ), and I coppered up buying it to the point where I can't afford a larger FSD (think it needs an 8 and I'm running a 7), so I am out in the Dolphin running some quick passenger missions while the Anaconda stays in dry dock awaiting a final fit out. So I have not actually flown it, but am looking forward to trying it out. Initial thoughts are that I will likely tool around in it for a while and then get a Krait MkII for my first run to Colonia, following various recommendations from posters I trust... But initially I'll get the Anaconda up and running and run some serious haulage missions to get a feel for it. Looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about!

Good luck shoehorning a size 8 FSD into an Anaconda, it actually takes a size 6 one smaller than your Belugas 7, you have to remember the Anacondas hull is almost impossibly light.

Incidentally, the view from the Krait cockpit is expansive and very useful. The only cockpit I have found better than it for visibility is the Asp Explorer, but they are two very different ships in terms of capability!

I did toy with the idea of having a Krait as an explorer, but it would have really only been for the ability to fly a fighter around, and the reduced jump ranges I was getting compared to the Asp didn’t appeal in the end. The Krait is much better suited to various multi-role activities in inhabited space, though having said that, it makes an excellent miner: I used to dread the appearance of the mandatory pirates at the beginning of each mining run, but now I look forward to them as target-practice :)

Ah, that’ll be my confusion as I know the ultimate jump range is good. There was some module or another which was bigger than I had realised. Odd that the FSD is small. But good news when it comes to fitting it out. Although I did see the price of reinforcing the hull. Ouch!!

interesting stuff, thank you. I couldn’t get along with the engine noise of the Asp X so have always sought alternatives for exploration. Now I figure it’s the Anaconda as I fancy trying Colonia and fancy packing for all eventualities. Plus it’ll tell me whether I like the Anaconda. If I don’t then the Krait might become my ultimate end game ship as I do like a multirole, much like the original Elite. I want to find one a settle on it. Trouble is I’m currently ruling more out more than I’m ruling in!

Have you seen the cost of max size A rated modules for the Corvette and Cutter?

My wallet had to go into therapy after seeing that.

I'm almost scared to upgrade mine.

The Asp Explorer gets on my nerves after a fairly short trip so I have used other ships for exploration currently I have a Krait Phantom in that role it jumps very long ranges when required and still has that view.

That is why I spent some time Void Opal mining in my Python for a couple of weeks before I got the Corvette. The total cost to outfit one is eye watering. I started with 1.5 billion credits, and after I A-rated everything I could I was left with 750 million credits. After making the 5K ly trip and turning in the exploration data, and spending some time farming bounties in High Res, I am now just shy of 800 million. However since I already have everything I want, I'm not really concerned about my bank account. I have plenty for rebuys and I can afford to get any module I may need down the road.

Just taking some Apa Vietii to Hutton.
Then it's back to Ray Gateway to buy some Corvettes.\o/
Most amusing. I also went and bought some of it, but I only dragged it back to Jameson with me. And there wasn't much of it left when I got there for some reason.

I just got around to checking out the Golconda. It was pretty cool. Interesting story in the logs.

I decided to take my Krait out there, since there's an outpost you can land on and get a decal, but my Krait still had AX weapons on it from my little excursion into Scout hunting. I won't be going back to Scouts, so I went to swap my former weapons back from storage, and 2 of them weren't there! Somehow I lost 2 nicely engineered weapons. I must have sold them accidentally.

Ah well...I can blame the Apa Vietii. Yesh.

Anyways, some screenies from the trip.

Cool old Generation ship:

It has rather large engines :)

Well I just spent about half my playtime tonight trying to Power down the emplacement power grid in a +++ settlement. I tried shooting the generator from space, not working. I tried driving there in SRV and shooting it, it blew up but nothing happened. And I've tried to use SRV data link scanner, but that's not working either.

Instead of being happy I'll go to bed frustrated.

Since people have mentioned the delights of Hutton, I thought I'd put in a word for Cecil from HCS voicepacks. It He isn't a normal voicepack, it He doesn't "do" anything, it He is just a companion - Cecil B Trumpington - it is quite funny. Some examples can be heard on on Soundcloud, the following is worth a listen:

(EDIT: A scriptblocker might prevent that showing / playing here if Soundcloud is blocked.)

(There are other fun tracks from Hutton on there.)
