Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

That has to be fake news.

Early shift on Monday so I'll probably annoy people less for the next five days.

Apologies to anyone I've been completely obnoxious too.

Have fun!
Tanya says: 'Rescue ships in particular, are very, very weak and absolutely open to alpha strikes, resulting in reports of 'cheating'.'

It's all in the air. She's a bad 'un.
Superb pilot though. Give her an unengineered pile of doodoo, she will make it dance.

Thank you Cmdr, for your kind words of encouragement.
I appear to be on a wild goose chase. Jaques doesn't do the MkIV Viper, but there an FC here that does. I have a feeling I need to be in 'their' faction to board though.
It is virtually impossible to FSS this system with all the FC's here. More what are you doing than FSS!*

That's 6 FCs for every system body. Is there any way of turning FCs off in the FSS?
There's something about this place that reminds me of a little village in Dorset. Nobody's got exactly what you want and it takes several journeys to get it. I bet everything shuts at 8pm too!
It has a charm though.

o7 Cmdrs!

Edit: *I didn't write that!
Yes, FCs have proliferated throughout the game, but are more concentrated at Colonia. I was based there, but FCs were the reason I left. 28 of them outside Jaques Station alone, hated it so left them to it and came back to the bubble, now only inhabit systems without them, for the most part. Er... welcome to Colonia!

What am I up to? 71% Deadly!! Trying simply to get it done and forget about it.

Good work mate. I'm at 69% and honestly I want to slow down now. Ticking off goals means fewer goals to tick off. Gotta be careful I don't play my way out of motivation. I know most players won't worry about this. But Elite is a goal-oriented game for me any more. It is what keeps me going. Thank the gods for Inara, those badges are gold!

What am I up to? Always something or other. This weekend I bought and built out a new ship. For the four years I've been playing, off and on, I've largely ignored fixed weapons, FA-off, module targeting and weapons like rails and PAs. So I built a ship to change that and mix up my routine. As I said in a different thread, the addition of MFG Crosswinds to my setup has given my ship control ability a nice boost. This has made it easier to be effective with fixed weapons and it's fun to mix it up and adapt to something new.

This is the ship I built.

Beams and Rails Chieftain

Excellent agility, good speed, great protection with near ideal (for me) resists. Very nice overhead vis which I put a premium on. A collector and a rack to scoop the mats. Lots of fun and a ship very much unlike the others in my fleet. I had bought one when they first came out, but as an engineering neophyte at that stage the Chief was outperformed by my Vulture. So I sold it. But now I can build a proper one. Module-sniping is cool, I blew up a Python with two rail volleys. Gotta keep things fresh, and stepping outside my routine with a ship like this has done exactly that.

It was in the Six Days and Still Hooked thread a little further down the list. Along with Tyres and Lt Dan, we all showed up here about the same time in spring of '18.

Yes! I remember it well, as the PC that I got was a treat to myself for my 50th birthday :D

It was nice to be in amongst friendly folks at the beginning, and see where our journeys took us.

I’ve done a lot in those three years, but I still haven’t done everything :) I think the most enjoyably challenging thing I have done is learn FA off, but I would hesitate to call myself even competent at it when it comes to actually landing 😅

I took the Viper out tonight and practised flying in normal space. Messed about with my bindings to make it more amenable to the M&Kb setup I use. Enjoyed lateral boosting around asteroids for a bit but decided to get in the Krait and do a passenger mission. Kitted it out with a first class cabin and took a 32k Cr mission for one person to go 9ly. Not very fulfilling (can you take passenger missions, then jump on a carrier headed back to the bubble?).
I ended up this evening looking at the GalMap and found a S type and a few DB, DOA's around 400ly away.
Back in the DBX?

Well, all those reviews and videos of how fun the T10 is, decided to have a go. Had Dirty Drives on remote so doesn't feel that sluggish. Because I engineered my other ships in bits and pieces as I went about unlocking, didnt realise what a pain it is to now have to run everywhere to get the experimentals and some other tweaks done. This fat hog burns thru the materials fast too!

Yes, the materials shortage is real :D I only own 9 ships, and getting engineered as I wanted them took “a while”. I don’t care to think about owning a fleet of 36 and an FC to go with it, it would be rather daunting!

With just the 9, they mostly evolved over time, and I didn’t notice the travelling about, or materials need. The exception was when I bought an FDL and Clipper in short order. Getting the FDL to where I wanted it took many evenings. Enjoyable, but lengthy, evenings :)
