Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Think I may leave the alpha until the CMDR snapshots are transferred over. That will more closely akin to the game I'll be playing and it will give me more time to work out what I need to do and what I should have.
Alpha testing isn't for everyone, and has many frustrations built in. But, by participating, I get to give my feedback on stuff like the UI and etc, and (maybe) make things better before release.

At least that's my current mindset, lol.

Prime Cmdr has the new suit. Mission success rate improving.

How on earth do you get an external view when on foot? The regular <ctrl><alt><space> doesn't work and I can't find a bind for it. Found it in the camera suite rather than the "on foot" secion.

And it seems I need some kind of security breach doodad to get into some places - maybe that's for missions though. Which I haven't even thought of attempting yet :D

Just made the mistake of unholstering my newbie peashooter near a guard at some base. He wasn't happy. Claret was imminent. Claret sprayed. So, off from a penal colony back to the very first place you go as a greenhorn. Think I'll take a seat in the lounge there and RTFM.

Ignore the loadout question, it's in the 3 panel, like srv's...ta

I thought it stupid that you can only change in a ship.

BTW - getting annoyed with controller issues when used with my normal Hotas bindings - must be some sort of conflict. So I'm going to try out the default M&K settings and see if I prefer that to swapping control profiles (only way to get controller to properly work at the moment for me).

Ugh. Not looking forward to sorting all that out.

I think I messed-up with that image stitching-job - probably a couple of grenade things got lost. Also, there might be additional camera controls to take care of which I have not investigated. However, melding those entries into my normal HOTAS bindings has at least produced a consistent set of controls that I can use - just not using the game pad/controller any more. (It is only conected to my PC so that my golf game works and it is not even used in that. 🕹️ )

I'm considering booting Skyrim up on my PS4 and taking notes on the control set up.
Last FP thing I played was on PS2.😬

I normally like FRPGs but, for some reason, Skyrim, just didn't blow my skirt up. Heresy. I know.

I have four games on my PC: ED of course; Guild Wars 2 which is largely untouched these days; The Settlers 4; Quake 3 Arena.

Those last two are there in case of Internet issues but I'm hoping the Quake skills will help my ED on foot game.

Speaking of which, I lowered some of my graphical options and it only made a slight difference. FPS saw a one or two frame improvement but it did "feel" slightly less choppy.

I made Tyres look almost like Horizons Tyres which was nice.

I need to work on those key binds too. They're a bit all over the place at the moment. I'm guessing that, when Odyssey goes live, alpha binds will go bye bye so, once happy, it'll be prudent to create a backup.

I suspect you might be wrong about that, when they added the FSS etc the binds from the beta worked when the live game was updated, though there were some slight changes which let anybody who didn’t set their binds up during the beta have a bit easier job.

I always have a Skyrim game in progress, which I play from time to time as the mood hits me. I even have an Oblivion one at the moment, also :)
I have an Oblivion one as well running - with a mod though, which hinders bandits to ever get daedric armor though - I really hate the scaling which includes armor. Despite the repetitive dungeon designs it is still a good game and imo better than Skyrim. i really dislike what Bethesda made with the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild in Skyrim, those were a whole lot better in Oblivion.

if you would like to play an RPG which doesn't have magic and is challenging in a different way than combat, try kingdom come deliverance - it is slow paced and combat is not really the focus of it, but it is very immersive and playing in a world of real history in Bohemia in the year 1403 is quite interesting. it is not even a hero-story, but pulls you in as it shows the development of a late teenage son of a blacksmith becoming a man and growing with the things happening to him and the region in a whole. it is very RPG though, not the streamlined RPG style of a Bethesda game - Henry, the protagonist, cannot even read at first - he is a quite naive boy and needs to grow up quickly - and he does.

This said, the progress in the game is not coming from your character getting more hitpoints and more damage - none of this - you will stay as you are as Henry, but you will get stronger, able to wear more layers of armor and your personal skill with the sword and other weapons will make the difference.
