Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm back to the grind for Imperial Cutter, 30% Marquis atm... and the emperor sent me to 110k+ LS spot to kill a darn deserter....

I think i will dump those deserter killing missions... they tends to send me deep in the black....

Edit: Done the killing, now picking up some black boxes

I don't seem to get anywhere with federation rank. Can someone suggest a way to get to Corvette without being a postman stacked up with futuristic USB sticks?
Use this:
This will help you to stack massacre and assassination missions doing PvE combat. Not only do you gain lots of rep, you can potentially earn around 150 million per 60-90 mins

I got my Rear Admiral rank from assassin and massacre missions around LHS 317 (5 Fed Factions), LP 906-9 (4 Fed Factions) & LP 908-11 (5 Fed Factions). Each were giving missions to the other systems, so I could stack and collect as I went. They all seemed to have Mat traders and Tech brokers too.

N00b Week :(

So, I've been spending the week working on Engineers.
Started OK with Felicity Farseer, and Elvira Martuuk - How did I ever play without a G5 FSD!

...Then the (N00b) problems started.

Needed a permit for Sirius to get Marco Qwent
OK, build reputation with Sirius Corporation...
24 Hours later - Still says locked? OK, so I'm allied with Sirius, and I'm sure I got a message about the permit?
...Seems you need to actually go to Sirius to get the invite - DOH!

OK, he's unlocked
Need mats to grind the blueprint.
Land on planet with SRV and start looking for mats I need - Eh? Where's the scanner gone?
... It seems the Scorpion doesn't have one - DOH! Go back and get Scarab.

OK, Got mats, but need some components.
Land at crashed ship, Lots of mats and components :)
Hmmm Scarab only has 4T capacity, Scorpion has 8T, OK, not a problem, I'll do multiple runs.
... Didn't fit a cargo rack to DBX  Go back and get ASP X

...Then a miracle occurred - I discovered (Well read) about the material trader :)
I only get to play about an hour a day during the week, so spend my time farming at Dav's Hope.
Lot's of high level components, so easy to trade down to get what I need :)

Let's hope next week is a little less N00b ish!

Could have been worse, you might have had the wrong Sirius Corp.

Just a point of clarification a Scorpion has a mass of 8T it has a cargo capacity of only 2T which is what the Scarab used to have before the Scorpion was released.

In spite of their exchange rates the Materials Traders are a wonderful group.

Got distracted (again) and started doing some light exploration 50ly outside the bubble. There are still plenty of places out here with no first footfall - which I don't think gets any cash bonus, but it does mean you'll be first with any bio discoveries. Obviously plenty of FSS data too, which I can sell to a faction later to get the reputation ball rolling.

Started on a very dark, cold little nitrogen world with lovely green coral fans...

And then on to this relatively benign looking ammonia atmosphere... much less the horrible hellscape than the last one I visited!

Although sunset is a bit ominous... Comes with a real sense of "get in the ship before the night falls or the things will come out to eat you".

Meanwhile, it's sister moon around the same gas giant, with the same atmosphere... was really quite soothing.

Apart from the extremely rugged terrain which pretty much blocked the SRV and made me land my big iClipper over and over. Or rather, the autopilot had to land it. Which took a while.

Might get myself a little DBX for this kind of job... I have a well kitted iCourier, but the downward visibility on it is worse than a fighter jet, which makes it really poor for planetary exploration.

Even the greenhouse cockpits of the Asps, and T-series have downward visibility issues, if you want to find things by looking out the cockpit and the gravity is low enough* try flying inverted it is only embarrassing if another commander sees you doing it.

*I was on a 0.52g world today and found that when banked on to its side my Phantom does not have enough lateral thrust to gain altitude in fact it was slowly dropping to the ground.

I like my DBX for this stuff. I still wind up flying while in the Camera Suite part of the time, though. But it can land almost anywhere, and it looks cool with the sticky-out bits from the ship kit. For some reason I've always liked the ship, even back when I was first starting out.
