Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Do you mean it chose to land on you instead of picking the only rock on planet bowling ball?

Oh, you've seen that too? Indeed, and if there's a flat area it'll find a rocky place instead and make it... interesting for egress. Or it fails to land completely and takes off again.

Let's say I've never seen it otherwise! 😜
There is a way to stop it doing that.
Just find a smooth flat area about 6km in diameter drive to the centre and then recall your ship.
As it can't land more than 2km away from you it has to land in the flat area much as it hates it.

It would seem to indicate a lack of time and resources, and probably money.
Yeah. It's not good news, even though they are continuing the PC version. It would seem to indicate a lack of time and resources, and probably money.

Enjoy the game while we can, eh?
A good team with a few good programmers could port it to one console at a time, even if its only on next gen.
Is number of console players x £12 an estimate of sales for EDO for consoles?

I will be saving up for a gaming PC from now on instead of a PS5 (I'm on PS4). BUT, I will not be doing this to get EDO, NO, NO, NO, I have looked at X4 and that looks completely and utterly better than ED, for things I like to do as I am uninterested in FPS (other games do that better), planetary landings and switching on power for missions, etc, etc, and as for looking for PLANTS???!!!! for a few CR, I don't need credits any longer as I have FC + 8Billion.

I will still play EDH for years, including the great CG's, I hope, on PS as there is still SO MUCH (I love mining and exploring) I am intending to do with my new FC (for my own exclusive use from now on BTW), but all my faith in FDev is gone out of the window.

Well at least DB put his head on the block for the announcement. Perhaps this is the end of the silence from the community team. It's a good thing to move on from here.
I don't think this was ever intended so its it's a development failure in essence. Given the original was written in 32k of machine code by two people, it's kind of ironic.

i see console owners are... not happy.

Nothing lasts forever.

I've been absent this thread for a few months while I finished the JKR-2 novel (final chapter now).
Kinda lost motivation when I hit triple Elite. Was waiting for Odyssey to land on PS before re-engaging.
Guess I'll just finish the novel on the rest of my night shifts then uninstall.
Shame, really, as I was also going to make it an audiobook.

Upside is I now have the space to reinstall Red Dead Redemption 2, which came with the PS4 (only bought the PS to play ED).

It's been a pleasure conversing with all the forumites here, both publicly and in PM.
My commander salutes you one final time.

Currently driving around a 1g world collecting bits and pieces of raw materials, such as Arsenic, Mercury, Tungsten and Zirconium. Fumaroles and Vents are far less prone to causing the material to vanish than Geysers which is nice.

Off topic just watched the new Ipcress File series opener it looks almost more in period (1963) than the Michael Caine movie that was filmed just 4 years later.
I'm up to eppy 3 now. They've done the 60's feel perfectly and it's a great yarn.

I just folded space back from mining and exploring hoping it would see me rank up. It didn't. Progress is v. slow :D

Now in Bhil Mina to put tritium petrol back into the carrier. This aspect is one I find frustrating: given it's 33 something, you'd think they would have got a better way of filling your tank than having to ferry back and forth and only be able to "donate" via your ship...

Hello all. Long time, no see! I have been playing, absorbed in squadron life, even bit the bullet and set aside my reservations and bought a Carrier. Pretty bleakly miserable at the overnight console news, though. Depressing. With apologies for popping up after months and asking a question, does anyone happen to know what PC specs will be needed to run Odessey?

Thank you and sorry to have been so absentee. Life got in the way, three kids on the bounce had Covid, a couple of our parents died... a grim couple of years but we're largely out the other side. Sorry not to have been around more. I'd like to say I'm back, but it appears they're going to turn the lights out on me. o7

Wlcome back! @@@07

For PC specs... that's a whole topic all of it's own! I was running on an i7 (overclocked to 4.4ghz) with a GTX1050 ti (my previous card blew up) and it was pretty ropey. However, they have implemented lot's of optimisation since then so it may well have improved. I'm guessing anything upward of a 1080ti would be fine but you'd have to fiddle with settings.

My currect rig (specs in sig) runs Odyseey like a dream - except for one thing: fires in settlements.

I just saw our page count... wow, nearly at the big 1K :D That's insane! :D

Thank you, will take a look. I fear my path will be Elden Ring now alongside some legacy Elite, then switch to Starfield for my MMO space adventures when it comes out in November but I love Elite so much I am actively exploring all options. Thanks for the response, and for the warm welcome!

You should be able to buy new/build/upgrade a PC for quite a modest sum. You don't need to go all testiclay out on some cutting edge monster... like this.

Hello all. Long time, no see!
Hey there, nice to see you're still around :) The console news is very sad, of course. It doesn't exactly produce a great feeling of optimism for me on the PC side, either. The game is winding down, I think. We'll have hopefully a couple more years, but it remains to be seen what really happens. Certainly the current situation was not FDEVs original plan. They are having to regroup, and who knows why.

Meanwhile, we can enjoy the game we have and hope for the best.

The thing with online games is they tend to last a while (he said, hoping not jinx things). The very first online game I played - an old MUD - was in 1997 via AOL. It still lives today, albeit with a very thin player base.

With that in mind, perhaps ED will out live me! :D

Perhaps this is the end of the silence from the community team.
More like end of ED. Remember EDO is merely an add on DLC, not the core game. Unless there is another iteration of Elite being planned, it is is now 7 years old, so without any source of income, why should FDev support it at all?
Who pays the Dev Team wages?

Looking forward to Elite Dangerous TNG on all platforms in 3 or 4 years time (accepting console versions will only be on next gen consoles)
