Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I bought a T10 to help me with this cg and I think, future cgs that need shifting lots of cargo. My thinking is is when I eventually get a vette/cutter, a lot of those modules will be compatible with it so can just swap them over. Using the money for upgrades. It's a slow beast of a ship but then again this is Elite's equivalent of an 18-wheeler

The T10 is more the military transporter than the plain 18-wheeler, the sacrifice of 260 tonnes of cargo space for Hull, Armour, Shields and lots of Hardpoints and Utilities compared to the T9 (which can feel even slower) takes it out of that category.

...This week I've been collecting mats, data etc for engineering.
A few (Dozen) passenger runs to get those illusive G5 mats, then back to bounty hunting, as I need LORI JAMESON for a few bits I have my eye on.
Need combat rank of Dangerous to unlock her. One more rank to go!

Congratulation Cmdr!. I'm currently stuck at 98% Expert. I'm beginning to believe the the counter has stopped!

I think I'd prefer an Anaconda, which is much faster and has more jump range. Even though it gives away a small amount of cargo, it would be more efficient overall, and its speed would mean that you wouldn't need to fight, so you'd make up even more time there.
Could do, and there's not much price difference between the two, would only take a few runs with building fabs to get the cash too. Never flew a conda before

Busy busy, explore explore!

Haven't got far from Jellyfish yet, maybe 30 jumps. Went sort of 'up and left' 15 or so, then started directly towards the Heart and Soul Nebulae. I'm hitting a lot of unexplored systems.

I had done the 'offset' to reduce the number of already explored systems I hit, I was not expecting to be this successful - I would have thought Jellyfish to Heart and Soul was a pretty well explored route.

Apparently not!

Verity, I thought we talked about this?

Don't make me install Leo...

Weird little scaley lookin' planet:

Shame there was nothing here - would have been pleasant to explore a while:

Moon of the weird space-pumpkins with antenna!

It was not a very flat surface:

Just a little steep:

Just chillin with some local geysers in the sun:

It's nearly 6k Ly to the Heart and Soul Nebula's, no time for lolygagging!

The only "T" class ship I ever liked was the 6. In my early days it was a great little cargo mission runner that earned my a lovely income.
Never really used the T6, I was very much into shooting my way to the top when starting so it didn't appeal. Later when I wanted a reasonably serious freighter I went for the T7 which I think is much underrated I particularly liked how well it flew in supercruise and how NPC interdictions were so easy to beat with it.

Saying the Anaconda gives away a small amount of cargo relative to the T9 is a bit generous, since the reworking a few years ago the difference is 320 tonnes around 50%, but you are right about speed and jumping.

Only launched ED a couple of times in the last few weeks... with the result I'm still on this same 2.3g world a little beyond the edge of the bubble. I'm pretty sure it's tidally locked because the sun hasn't moved a jot in all this time.

Up side, it didn't have a footfall until now, and the surface is relatively drivable and rich in niobium and arsenic - first time I've seen top tier raw materials in a long time, and it's making me wonder whether the bigger planets have some sort of higher chance of generating them. Google only wants to tell me the traditional farming spots, apparently nobody has done statistical investigation of resource density? 😾

"Howdy, neighbor!"

My first adventure has begun!
I saw an ad for an "exploring the core" expedition that was taking off and managed to join it with my diamondback.
Oh my goodness, THIS is what Elite is made for, I swear. This expedition has me all starry eyed with the game.

We're all on board one person's carrier, who is taking us deep into the galactic core, and the experience is just magical. Everybody gathered up in the viewing room to watch the stars go by, then dozens of ships departing the carrier on exploration missions..Then all meet up again on board for the next jump.

It's very social, very warm, and when I meet someone in space, it's always a friend.
I've been learning how to do exploration while tagging along with the expedition and am slowly learning the ropes. Sheer distance means I am even getting some first footfalls and first discoveries under my belt even though I've only been doing this a short time.

It's amazing.

Sounds great fun and it's always a pleasure to hear positive experiences amid all the negativity in other parts of the forum. I must admit, I'm a little jealous as I've never really been the social type...

So, kudos to you CMDR and, as we used to say before the forums changed to this format: rep.

@@@07

PS I hope that carrier has a bar! :D

Damn.

Just tried another covert theft mission. It says "steal the chemical sample from a settlement". I get theere and I'm told it's "indlustrial locker 1". I find a likely researcher, scan him and get level three access. The building I need only needs level one so it should be OK.

By this time, I've noted where all the outside guards are. I get to a terminal inside the building (IND) and locate the locker. I creep round to it, open it with the relevant code and... there's no chemical sample. I just grab everything anyway. Nothing.

So, of course, there's a guard in the building who spots me so I end him. But another it already on his way and off go the alarms.

Run away! Run away!

Sheesh. Is it really this difficult?

Easiest IMHO opinion is to disable the alarms first, but shame about the missing item. :/
