Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Just had my first buy back screen in ages and it was against a Master NPC! The Cutter handles like a fly in molasses.
The Cutter needs a specific strategy to win. Assuming G5 dirty drag drives, use boost to get 6km from your opponent. FA off boost turn and full revers throttle - reverski manoeuvre. Now use long range engineered lasers and multi cannons to attack, boosting and turning again if you need to restablish a long range position. Takes a bit longer to kill NPCs but it always works. You can kill players in vettes and condas this way too. The Cutter is fast for a big ship. Use the speed. The conda and vette just aren't fast enough.

I guess a fighter would help too. MC Condor is my favorite now. * Against NPC only *

Cmdr Anya Klemkan arrived in the system near uncle yuri's FC after a 250ly worth slow taxi rides.
Picked up a clean G3 Domy suit, and manticore weapons. Lots of power restores and the odd combat made up to 10M crds on the way.
The sidewinder is in the hanger waiting to get to the FC. But, just got killed by scavs and sent to prison, making the way back, some nice gear on the way.

edit ; died and prison agaaainnn....? play style of G5 gear in G2 gear...big mistake.

If you are not concerned with maximising cargo space, yes a fighter. I like the Taipan as it lasts longer, especially when you get an NPC pilot to high enough rank for a fixed beam Taipan to be effective.
My Cutter is set up to maximise cargo space, so the two medium hard points in the nacelles have turret multi canons, one incendiary and one corrosive to deal with anything too fast and agile to point the front of the ship at.
I don't really enjoy combat in the Cutter due to the slow turn rate. I'd rather be in the Krait II with a fight bay on board for CZs and wing massacre missions.

I don't use the Cutter for combat oriented activities much, but when I do it works well enough. I just put massive shields on it, a bunch of turrets, and a big old multicannon (no spinup time on the huge, for some reason). I do fly in reverse if it seems needed, but none of the fancy FAOFF stuff for me. I actually unbound FAOFF so I can't accidentally hit it and confuse myself :p

Usually though I'm in my mining Cutter or hauling Cutter. They both have decent shields and weapons, enough to fight off the common pirates I might encounter. I use the Corvette for anything more difficult.

Toggling FA off while you reverse turn makes a big difference on a Cutter. It's worth doing. just bind it to any easy to reach button, set it to hold rather than toggle so that it's only on while you hold the button, then you can't get confused. as you tilt back, hold down the button until you have the enemy in your sight, then let go. if you time it right and anticipate the enemy flying over your head, you can keep the fire on them all the time unless they come straight at you, which is what they do a lot of the time. On the X52 it works well on the pinkie trigger or the flat button on the left of the flight stick. Basically, it just saves time and makes fights less tedious.

I've reverted to taking on Novice Assassination missions (Cowardly, I know!), so that I have more combat time to experiment with the flight model.
So far, it really isn't cutting the mustard (no pun intended) and I think I'll be getting the dustcovers out till I find a high profit haulage run.

I'm working my way up the Inara bounty charts at the moment. I've gained 4 places in the last 6 weeks. I'm seeing ships explode in my sleep now. I've killed about 25,000 NPCs in that time, bringing my total in this account to 146,000. I've had kill rates up to 200 per hour using a Vulture. On the plus side, I'm making about a billion a day when combining with massacre missions. It's a pretty brain dead activity, but it gives me something to do while I watch TV and wait for the devs to give us some more meaningful game-play.

Anotheer interesting thing from that sorrt of activity is that you get a very good understanding of NPC behaviour, which becomes very predictable.

My impression is that the huge multicannon doesn’t spin its four barrels like the Gatling gun based ones do but fires the barrels in sequence which is why there is no significant lag, I have to admit I haven’t tried to test this out with the external cameras.

Mining for platinum in a haz RES using the Cutter is very lucrative and a lot more entertaining than hauling. Have you tried that? I rate it a bit more entertaining than core mining and a lot more lucrative. I try to make it more engaging by always trying to beat my best run. I can fill the Cutter with 522T in 30 minutes. That's worth 140 mil. If you include the time for travelling and selling using a fleet carrier, you can make around 150 mil per hr. I think that this is the sort of activity the Cutter was made for, though they probably didn't know it at the time.

I remember being told not to waste the autoload special effect on the huge MC.
I didn't pay enough attention to the huge mc reload time, but I assume autoload enable you to fire all the way non stop until you run out of ammo??? I'm most of my MC with autoload if they are not corrosive or incendiary.

Oh btw, I like the turn rate of keelback, it is quite impressive for industrial ship actually, on 4D G3 dirty drive, no experimental yet.

I am now 1/3rd of the way to Colonia (docked in the Eagle Nebula right now). I've not been stopping at all the stops, going 2-3 at a time takes me a bit off the beaten track and lets me get some firsts on. Took some snappies along the way, thought I took more but they don't appear to have saved.

This was a nice view:

And I saw one of these and yes I did check it out, turned out to be some weird crystalline things:

Saw a couple of ELWs too, already scanned obviously but nice to see those rarities around.

I've actually not tried landing on a planet with the Krait MKII and didn't realise it was an issue. Though I also default to my Cobra MKIII when it comes to general exploration, since that's my primary ship and he should get first dibs. Plus he's very reliable at getting me out of scrapes. I'm more comfortable with it.
Krait Phantom is fussier over landing spot than DBX and ASPX, although ASPX is not as easy to land as DBX. It is particularly difficult to land a Phantom in the rough ground bordering some Guardian sites, and I use a DBX for this.
Out deep space exploring I have no trouble landing the Phantom. One thing that helps is to take all pips away from engines to slow down the crawl around looking for s landing site. You don't miss potential spots by going too fast over them this way.

Good morning from 'Salomé's Reach' (Oevasy SG-Y D0 B 9 F) orbit, 547.52ly further out from Sol than Beagle Point. It takes a winding route of around 15 jumps to get here from Beagle Point, one of which needed a basic FSD injection in my 70.48ly jump range Phantom to make the second to last jump of 82.68 ly. All stars were scoopable on the way. Looks like a fuel rats Fleet Carrier is orbiting Salome's Reach.
This is the most distant body from Sol you can reach or see on the galaxy map. I don't think you can go further even in a Fleet Carrier.
