Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Thanks to Codger's link I spotted a very rude bathroom scrawl above the cat. Para might enjoy that at least.
....

I have not looked (too busy trying to mod my fighterstick) and I wouldn't enjoy it anyway. It used to really annoy me to open the map back in early EDDiscovery days to be presented with childish graffiti. There were (still are I suppose) others that have spent an inordinate amount of time and effort to make an "Impression" on the map. Thankfully I am sure the expansion of visited stars will have obliterated those early vulgarities. ;)

I find it both childishly funny and annoying at the same time. Maybe 97% annoying.

One thing I've noticed when hunting Bios - I get Frutexa on the scan but I can never find any on the planets.
They tend to be off by themselves, at the higher elevations, and not on flat surfaces so much. They can be hard to spot. When you do spot them, though, there's usually more nearby so you can get all 3 samples. They only have to be 150m apart.

Visit the beautiful snowy ice planet, they said. It'll be lovely, they said.

Nowhere in the brochure did they say it was all black ice. This is local noon... even my ship's lights don't make the ground look any lighter.

Y'all know I hate to give up in my search for alien goo... but I gave up in my search for alien goo. I can't see squat.

It seems most explorers seem to travel to the same places

Nebulae and Sag A*, I think are the usual culprits. We do like a nice skybox 😸 But we have to accept that there's only a finite number of nebulae - and any destination google recommended has by definition been visited before. Best way to find unexplored places is always up or down a couple of thousand ly, and out in a direction that has no reason to appeal to anyone.

That said, loads of planets near the usual landmarks with no footfalls, and sometimes no scans. Might not get discoveries, but there's plenty to tag - and in places that other commanders might actually pass through at that.

What a buncha wusses. There's nothing more satisfying than taking them out face to face. I haven't used missiles since the very beginning, when I was learning the ropes!
Engineering guns and suits seems to require you to become a burglar and/or murderer. It's not in character for Quain. There is also more ship based play I'm busy doing with a Fleet Carrier purchase now possible once back in the bubble and things I plan to do with it.
I also have not found guides for suit and gun material collection that really help enough and I don't want to spend time figuring it out for myself - at least not now. I started playing just before Odyssey was released, so coming to the game late unless the 1984 version on the ZX Spectrum counts.

1) You do become a crim or a scav to get the stuff you need for on foot engineering.
2) Getting the mats is a grind...

I think those are the main reasons for me not spending time in Oddy. Honestly, if I wanted to play a first-person-shooter (I don't) I would have bought one, I think this foot-combat obsession of the developers is a huge mistake.

Apart from the footy-shooty: the increased PC load, fan noise, temps all are not justified to me for the meagre changes to "normal" game play. I do check it out from time to time and it does perform much better than before but it is still not my idea of an "improvement" over Horizons.

P.S. If I want to hear my PC fans running and have toasty feet I'd just load MSFS 2020. ;)
