Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The servers are better for me today. Still some delay, but not too terrible.

I wanted to make at least 1 more Tritium run on my alt, but when I logged off last night the Tritium supply at the station where I was docked was all gone. Well, there were 18 tons. Checking EDDB this morning, most of the stations are bought out, or close to it.

However when I logged in there were 54 tons, so it recovered a bit overnight. There are several outposts (so only M pads) in the system, so I went to each one and found a bit of Tritium at each. 50 here. 70 there. Etc. I managed to fill the Python's hold of 252 tons, and did one more run.

My alt now has 546 million in cash, which should serve her well.

I'm glad I didn't sell too much of the Tritium off my carrier, because it'll be a few days at least before supplies recover.

All in all it was a very lucrative CG!

If you look 160Ly or more away from the CG destination there are still large pad stations with 6 figure supplies, that is around an 11 jump round trip.

I figured out that the reason I couldn't get out of Elite without turning off the computer is that the game somehow freezes the keyboard. I first tried unplugging the X52 HOTAS as an experiment but then I noticed that even the caps lock light wouldn't come on. I then took out the keyboard's USB and shoved it back in. HUZZAH! Instant access to the ESC button.

I just thought you'd all be on the edge of your seats until you knew I solved that.

In case you don't already know, the compass in your ship will point to your pad once you enter the station. The compass is that little circle thing next to the radar. The dot is solid if your target is in front of you, and hollow if behind you. I often land my bigger ships using just the compass, because I can't see downwards :)

It took me a little while to figure out the compass, and even longer to figure out that it also directed you to landing pads.

To expand on that excellent advice, the nearer the dot is to the centre the more in line with it your ship is so when landing vertically on the pad the dot should be on the bottom edge of the compass.

Keep an eye on the compass as you go through the slot and you will see the dot jump as it changes from pointing at the station to pointing at the pad.

The pads inside the stations are in a standard layout so if you enter the slot in the same orientation each time the pad will be the same direction, you can find plans showing which number pads are where.
Although I've still found myself having to do U-turns inside stations every so often. Mostly when I fly in like a lunatic.

That one i didn't know, great thing. I has kind of feeling it i guess, but when worded it really will let docking looking like at the compass only, which will make it even faster.

The other reason that i put DC (always standard one, taking off with it is way too slow) is those Coriolis starports. If you ain't paying attention in supercruise to get closer to the mail slot, or at least remember where it is, you may very well end at the wrong side of the thing, and then you need to fly around it and figure out where is the entrance. I know if it rotates clockwise then you're exactly at the back side, but you're rarely lucky enough to get exactly there, and i always spend a few seconds looking at it and figuring out how that it is rotating in those cases. Slow. And DC just picks up the direction. Even using DC on a Cobra, has slot, why not to. It's harder with bigger ships tho, as they often have only one 1-size, and putting a DC in 3-size feels like a waste already. And in 1 you often need to put something like DSS.

I usually ignore the compass in this instance because my brain doesn't really get it. I just look for the lights instead. I don't recall if the back of the station has red or white but the front definitely has green.

I did wonder at one time given digital watches etc whether clockwise was going to go the way of widdershins as a valid description of direction.

Red lights on the corners of the back face of the station not to be confused with the red area lighting some stations have all over the front face.

If you target the station the holo image on the left of the dashboard has arrows pointing to the slot side.

I like the compass but when I am actually orienting myself above the pad, it's all about that rectangular light-slinky for this commander. I love swooping in over the pad and leveling out and drop the gear and just gulp slightly while you descend then the scanner switches to the detailed spread

See - you have to roll that smoke before you dock, so you can do that with it hangin out your mouth. Rollin it while the ADC steals your thunder, that's like, a false economy, ... hey just joking!
-- days later in retrospect i now also keep an eye on it as an additional instrument now too, when aligning over the pad, as well as for finding the pad location. That's very good advice AND but I found it even more helpful, applied for surface landing if you have destination targeted, track it on the compass below to know when to pitch down and descend after it drops from sight below. Then pitch down with no looking and no math! (Well I used to compare the distance to the target (hypotenuse) with the altitude in an informal arc sin to get the angle without line of sight. But I guess that's like calculating my speed by counting mileposts instead of look at the speedometer now)

I'm really glad to be back home in la boule is what's happening. When I first saw altair, all those other blue-white and neutron stars with spinny pony tails and rings, receded to a memory. Yep. Altair's still on!

I was able to spend some materials and build a slightly more hot cobra than I built in Colonia, and today kilt 5 pirates taking me from the beginning of 'M' to the middle of 'S', in my role icons, in 'MOSTLY' harmless. 💪🏼. Yeahhh they were all perfectly harmless little poofs of materials to be. Happy Saturday!

Don't forget to pick that left-over stuff up with your cargo scoop when you finish blowing them up.

So, I got my hands back on the rails practice again, watched cmdr exigeous on the Krait mk2 rail builds and just copied that. Pheeeww, that's my trusty rail training platform now !!

Those 4 rails were orginally 2 feedback cascade and 2 super pen, they were deadly, but the ammo cost is a pain. So I traded some dmg for plasma slug, it cut almost 1/4 of the ammo cost (just the fuel cost actually), not to mention I can scoop ammo from the sun! Paired with my deadly MC SLF to ensure hull breach fast on the target make it a solid combo for me.

I still can't keep rail guns on target unless the target is a T10 within about 500m....
