Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

"In the '30s, Hitler: Czechoslovakia, Poland, France, Second World War... Russian front not a good idea... Hitler never played Risk when he was a kid. Cause, you know, playing Risk, you could never hold on to Asia. That Asian-Eastern European area, you could never hold it, could you? Seven extra men at the beginning of every go, but you couldn't hold it. Australasia, that was the one. Australasia. All the purples. Get everyone on Papua New Guinea and just build up and build up..." - Eddie Izzard
I used to play risk a fair bit. I think I won starting with Africa a few time.
Just in case you've never seen the movie, this is where my Sicillians and land war in Asia references come from:

Just in case you've never seen the movie,
I own it on Blu-ray.

Talk about out of practice for ship to ship fighting.

Took a quick trip to HIP 22460 for some anto-xeno bang bangs and found a low CZ. Was doing OK till I got by their disabling thing. No power or control then they homed in and I was looking at the rebuy screen.

Off for some on-foot CZ instead :D

I need to re-hone my skills (what there is of them).
You're lucky they didn't capture you and preform diabolical experiments on you. Like finding 20 ways to kill you and keep reviving you endlessly, just for fun.

1st CZ done. Not sure if it was low, medium, high or whatever. Just saw the crossed swords on the planet, hopped in, chose a side and captured a load of "flags". Then I shot the remaining enemy. Victory. Hmm... I thought I had to sign up on a concourse somewhere but I can't find the Frontier Solutions thing to do so...

I've only done it once, but you cannot interact with any terminals in a CZ until you pick a side at the terminal.

You can just log off and on to restart the CZ. Hit your key to show the CZ results and sign up. F7 for me.

I read you could also sign up from Frontier Solutions on a cconcourse then get flown to the CZ. I couldn't find any such thing.

Still, it got me ~6mCR...
Yes, some stations have a desk where you can sign up and get transported and dropped. After the CZ you can get a ride back using that same key (F7). Much slower than just going there yourself though.
Frontline Solutions...

When it exists, its is always directly across from Apex Interstellar...

ETA: Also, even if its there, no guarantees that its actually manned..

Aye.

I probably panicked.

About half-way through, I noticed my ship had vanished (presumed destroyed and I'd missed it), and my SRV was under attack and thought "taxi ride next time". But the SRV survived the onslaught and I was able to recall my ship. Hehe.

EDIT: OK, found what I'd thought at a Coriolis. I had seen these before funnily enough but not known much about them or given them any thought. Right... here we go! I'm grabbing my gun and doing my part!

Well I finally stopped traveling, just about 15,000LY out. I've used about 3000T of Tritium to get here. This seems like a good spot to make camp for a while and explore the surrounding systems.

The sky here is very interesting. Lots of stars, of course, but also a lot of varied colors and blotches, I guess from various nebulae, although none are near me.

My DBX blends with the mountains here :)
