Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

My AspX had a range of about 34 or so when I went for the first time. It was 53 jumps or so if I recall correctly. Now in my Phantom it's 21 jumps and that's it.
That's interesting. Some people reported having trouble getting there with less than around 37-38ly jump range. They must have been unlucky with their start point and route to get there. I've always had an Engineered FSD V1 on a Phantom or Asp X when going there. I think I've had Guardian FSD booster too.

There was an investigation about jumpability in the Tutorials thread on this:

Seemed to be about 39ly needed 36 didn't cut the mustard.

BTW - I have never been, so just sayin' ;)

This is a mystery to me, as I have found 1 Data Mined Wake Exception ever (using a wake scanner) in the game and I do all the things you describe. I have to trade other encoded materials to get DWEs. In my faction support game play I take missions for influence, and planetary scans are good ones for this. They give you grade 4 and 5 encoded materials when you do the planet surface station datalink scan. So this is my steady supply of encoded materials, and since I rarely engineer new ships now, its enough to keep me going.
I play solo in 3.8, at the moment, which could be a reason. Not that much noise, just some NPCs doing NPC stuff, I guess.
Or I just happen to be at the right place, looking in the right direction at the right time...

It is good to know about these planetary scan missions, though I have been struggling with doing these since I once got seriously wedged in the structures of an abandoned settlement in the Pilots Federation Bubble...
(There was a datanode I should scan that rose up into a position that I couldn't reach with my scanner. Trying to get some higher ground resulted in my SRV slipping into a gap in a way that I was unable to free myself, other than blowing myself up.)
And I take it that these missions come with some kind of resistance. I'm not entirely sure if I can handle that.

Considering how hard it is to find Telerium in the wild outside of the crystal shards sites, you did well. There is a canister with 3 units of Telerium plus canister of some other materials at the crashed Anaconda (aka bug killer) worth picking up. You don't have to do the relog trick to refresh them and the nearby SRV is worth a look.
Where is it located? I think I read that somewhere, but I am unable to find it...

In Horizons 3.8 when you approach a search zone it moves around until a fix on the location happens. This means it can take a few minutes to find the structure and datalink to scan. It adds to the mystery the first few times, then becomes a waste of time. In Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey you get a fixed position artificial structure to navigate direct to. While you can get the SRV out, small and medium ship's (except Mamba) can scan the datalink with the ships datalink scanner. Large ships are in danger of catching on buildings ( except the sleek Clipper), and the two big nose ships, Anaconda and Corvette cannot scan ground datalinks at all. The cockpit is set too far back. You might get skimmers shooting at you, so 200 to 300MJ shields is advisable. You will usually get fines and bounties doing this, so if you take a bunch of these in one outing, plan on visiting an Interstellar Factors on your way back.
It's a decent way for get Federation reputation and encoded materials at the same time.
Not sure it's worth it in Horizons 3.8 due to losing time searching for the ground structure.

I see. I will keep that in mind. I hope the Stargazer's shields are up to that task...

Just to confirm (@Codger made me doubt my memory ;) ) - I just now went out to confirm that indeed Tellurium is produced (as well as Ruthenium and Antimony) by the cargo racks at the Bug Killer (HIP 16613 1 A ).

Me too, playing in solo. i'm lucky in never haing my SRV get so wedged I couldn't get it out. When you blow yourself up do you regen in the SRV or your ship ?

Found myself a place to mine platinum :) That's funds taken care of. (I think I'll work on a tritium point next, or find a station selling enough of it to so I don't need to mine it).

Then I found this little curio. Not only was I the first to disco and map it, but it's a WW with rings which is quite unusual. To add to its curiosity, and rarity inasmuch as I've never seen one before, the inner ring is metallic - and it has a painite hotspot.

... Which coordinates might not be valid for Odyssey Planets...
Quite possibly, I am sure the terrain about the Anaconda and especially the SRV is different, not so blatantly as Dav's Hope but noticeable.

Just found an interesting planet;
High metal content
Atmospheric, thin sulphur dioxide
Landable
Bacterium, easily visible
Terraformable

Never had that many boxes ticked before, unsurprisingly it is supposed to be a high value world which is just as well at 156,000+ls from arrival.
