Thanks for your reply!
I wasn't sure because of the bad press I read when it first came out and the fact that I just uninstalled Star Citizen at the time, I can't really deal with so many in-game bugs...
TL DR - I like it...
Odyssey is definitely worth it to me. To echo what
@Marvin the Martian said, it adds an entirely new dimension to the simulation.
I do like the shooty bits but haven't actually done any of that since before U13. But there's more to do in settlements than just shoot NPCs.
Many mission require stealth to steal things or assassinate someone, which can be done with the Charging Tool instead of a weapon. One of the most thrilling moments for me so far has been zapping someone in a corridor without firing a single shot or setting off the alarms and just walking out of the settlement back to my ship like it was any other day...
Beyond that, there's several kinds of missions, some delivery/pickup, some finding things at wrecks or downloading data.
A good way to hunt for pre-upgraded gear is going to a large system with many stations and planetary ports (not settlements) and hopping on an Apex taxi to visit all of them on Thursday's after the tick. I'm not keen on engineering grind and haven't upgraded or modified any suits/weapons yet. But I can be competitive in High Ground CZs with G3 as purchased gear. It just requires a more tactical approach than simply going in and just blasting everything with OP gear.
Exobiology adds to the amount of cash one can get out of a newly discovered system. Bounties for all first finds are doubled when you turn them in at Vista Genomics. IE: A single body with 4 biologicals can net over 2 mil depending on which specific biologicals are there. Not the best money vs. time ratio, but that hardly matters to me.
I've never been much of a fan of FPS style games in general, but I have played a few, mostly before 2002 or so. I find the FPS in Odyssey to be easy to approach and fun with the difficulty scaling based on the activity/threat level. Going into somewhere with a few friends to either turn off or restore power in a settlement is a blast.
Also, ALL odyssey missions are shareable...so no need to look for wing specific missions if one plays with friends.
All in all I find it relaxing and fun. I'm not in any hurry to finish the game and there are things, both in space and on foot, that I haven't done yet in the 2 years and 3000+ hours I've been playing.
The UI takes some getting used to. It is a big change from Horizons. But I haven't been in Horizons since roughly two weeks or so after Odyssey launched, the first few patches were really needed to get the bug count down.
Bugs: Yeah there are bugs which can mostly be worked around and the work arounds are not too bad, just extra steps in most cases. IE: Selling into a fleet carrier requires selling twice before the stuff is actually moved off your ship; the flight model is a little sluggish until you turn off Rotation Correction...
