Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

If you mean materials like focus crystals, sulphur, anomolous bulk scan data etc. then yes, absolutely. What you won't get in Horizons is the on-foot stuff like circuit switches, SDP's * and compact libraries.

* Some would argue these aren't present in Odyssey either...
I only go into Horizons when I need to solve a "separated from my ship" issue that cannot be resolved in Ody. Doesn't happen very often but it does still happen. I think the last time was on my carrier and my ship was still in space and I couldn't transfer it nor could I choose another ship...There may have also been a server disconnect involved that created the problem in the first place.

Thanks guys for the reply...

I'm finished filling up the Carrier cargo with Tritium, gonna depart for another exploration soon. Information will be very useful I guess weaapons will still need Synthesis in Odyssey...

Ship weapons, yes. You can still synthesise ammo.

That's what I meant, for my Corvette.

OK... On my way to the Arcadian Stream, I know there are planets on the way where I can farm all the material I want. Will post updates when I get something new and interesting.

The Thargoids are restless today it seems...

I just made a trip back to The Bug Killer after having visited a Material Trader when I got hyperdicted in successive jumps, once by 2 cabbages and then by four.

BTW @CMDR TIMBERMCWOLF - yes you can see the fourth interceptor jump out after firing the pulse in the second video - so that is what I saw the last time as you surmised.

I'm off to make an upgraded tin-foil hat out of RAM (radar absorbant material). ;)

Did someone beat this game to death with the nerf hammer last night?

Seriously.

Mining was a complete bust, so I just jumped back in the Krait and headed out. Can't find a thing of interest. Just jumped into a system with 9 planets. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM landable with an atmosphere. Not a single biologic on any of them. None of them worth mapping.

Unbelievable.

I've never seen anything like this in the entire time I've been playing this game.

It does go like that sometimes. You must've upset RNGeezus.

I've finished up with my Robigo runs, at least for the moment. I find them very addicting. They are so short and so lucrative, my inner voice keeps saying "Sure, do another run. Won't take long." :)

I DID get interdicted again today while doing my runs.

The guy waited until I was moments from dropping into the Sirius Atmospherics tourist beacon. I attempted to evade but he crashed me right into the exclusion zone of the nearby planet. Thanks for nothing, buddy.

He didn't follow me, though. I never saw him again. Maybe he's stuck looking for an escape vector.

And it turns out that the sightseeing passenger missions give a small bit of Exploration experience. I was very close to Elite I in exploration, and they were enough to push me over the threshold.

But I've made back all the money I spent on Tritium, and I have some few minerals I mined while I was out in the black, so I'm gonna go sell those off.

After that, I don't know yet :)

Yes, that's the funny thing about RNG (which stands for "Random Number Generator", which is what they call the piece of code that generates the numbers that are then used to trigger things in the game).

It is next to impossible to code a truly random number generator, so the RNG is actually always pseudo-random. It's usually based on a seed number, which they get from stuff like current time, location, etc., and then it spits out numbers. It's quite easy for it to produce a long string of bad numbers at times, which makes people scream "Nerf!".

But a Nerf requires dev time and input. RNG does not. The string of bad numbers for your particular seed today is the real answer to these bad luck streaks.

It'll go away, once you've used up all them bad numbers (or the seed changes, which it will).

Such is life in a pretend world, I guess :)

Sold off my various ores. Even though I didn't do all that much mining on my last trip, the stuff I had was still worth around 180 million. I was happy with that.

The Khaleesi wanted my Platinum, though.

I don't think it was the real Khalessi, she was far too rude.

Anyway, I didn't give her any.

She didn't even send her dragons?

Pfft. That was no Khaleesi.

I thought RNG's went out with DOS, I was figuring this game uses a passell of algorithms. Sometimes I wonder if you guys are shareholders, maybe on the board of directors for Frontier. Maybe not, oh well.......🤷‍♂️

To be clear: You're not mining in Resource Extraction Sites, are you?

If so, don't do that. That is a no-no unless you're very experienced. You mine in hot spots you find with your Surface Scanner. Never mine in a marked RES spot.
Nope. I might not be the brightest crayon in the box, but bright enough to avoid those sites. There were a few hints that made me doubt these would be a good idea to visit as a noob. :)

It just buggered off. Wow. I have read quite a few stories about these interdictions in a thread that centers around the UIAs, but this one is new. :D

Had that happen more than once. Crashing into the exclusion zone interrupts the interdiction, completely throwing them off the scent. That guy may still be circling that planet, trying to find out where you forcefully landed on the surface...

The RNGs or PRNGs (Pseudo-Random Number Generators) are the building blocks of modern cyber-security and cryptography.

It's from an article on how to generate (pseudo) random numbers in the programming language C++, which the internet tells me Elite Dangerous is written in.
I don't think there is an issue with the actual random number generation in C++ which most likely uses the same mathematical approach as every other programming language. There is probably something else at play that results in no platinum in a platinum hot spot or whatever other frustrations we experience when a thing we want doesn't turn up in the game.
