What can the devs do to help grow the population?

I play SC 80% of my game time, only 5% for Odyssey. The reason I don't play more Odyssey is there is not enough non-combat gameplay.

I'm on my way to Colonia with my 3rd account, stopping at every megaship on the Colonia Bridge, landing on atmo planets, scanning biologicals. I'm 15,000 ly from the bubble, have enjoyed over 100 hours of gameplay so far, and that account doesn't even have a combat ship.

Some people just have this idea of the Perfect Game in their head and cannot ever accept reality. We live in a golden age for space games with so many excellent choices, but some will always stay the "what if ED had ELWs that looked like FS2020 with flora and fauna like NMS and deep multiplayer like EvE and racetracks and you could go swimming and tame dinosaurs and then sell them and become a big dinosaur trader and I'd get invited to the royal palace and everyone will say what an awesome person I am and strong and sexy too and nobody will bully me anymore especially Jimmy who has been very very mean to me and I told the teacher and she said i should talk to jimmy but then he just threw the ball in my face and i didnt even play with the ball it was 40 years ago but its not fair and that is what I want FD to do." type. :p
Lego Worlds is an underrated gem (no kidding). Maybe those people should try it right now.

Literally the only non-combat content he has with SC 1) carrying a box from A to B, and 2) mining. Both are at least as shallow as ED gameloops, in a single tiny star system, with even worse performance than EDO and far, far more bugs and crashes. Ignoring all other issues, no sane person plays SC because "EDO doesn't have enough non combat content". :D But if he is having fun, good for him!

A roll back to 2.4 would probably get my friends and I back into ED...
As a lifelong player and fan of the Elite series I will even wait and see if Elite Deadly returns to formula before I bought in. Such is our complete lack of interest in the current game and lack of trust in the next one.

The Cities, Asteroid mining, Earth Like planets, ship interiors & Fine details are amazing.

Completely this, i played a freebie slot a while back, it was enough to make me never spend real money on that game, in bikers terms its like a Harley Davidson, sure it looks amazing but then you start it up and try to ride it.
All their money is being spent on a new posh HQ in Mancunia.

i would like to know an alternative for ED ?, i have played X4 lately but dropped it in favour of ED. the things i dislike on X4 are the very complex UI with functionality behind which doesn´t really work in lots of cases, and flying in an 2D space in front of a wallpaper. Also i dislike the graphics in NMS, and the business model of SC. What i´am looking for is a space simulation with flying in a complete universe and somehow believable physics, no shooter. For my expectatios Elite in its pre Odyssey state was perfect, but now with introducing basic errors to the game my frust level seems to exceed the enjoyment. what is this Bethesda thing mentioned in this thread, sorry but i do not follow gaming industry news ? thx
The truth is, despite the renaissance of space games, there's still nothing like ED out there, not even close.
In fact, the only viable option for those that don't like the direction FDev took with EDO, is to keep playing EDH and hope for the best.

Bethesda is going to release a space-themed game called Starfield next year.

The steam reviews tell of the greatness of ED & EDO.

Game of two halves.

If I was as closed minded, I would say We're doomed. Google Bethesda Space 2022.
Looks like it's gonna be a good game, but it's likely to nbe a very different animal to ED. Of it looks good I will get it, but it won't be a replacement to ED. ED scratches an itch, that no other game can do at the moment.
