I've had a pretty big creative block for Stringybark Zoo since finishing the South-east Asia area, which is partly because I'm having trouble starting the Drylands area and partly because my building skills have improved significantly over the course of building the zoo to the point I'm feeling dissatisfied with some of the older areas (the Floodplains especially). I might go back and do some renovations later on but for now I feel like working on a new project, and so that's what I've started developing.
I've wanted to do a zoo set in the Australian desert for years now, with my main inspirations being the Alice Springs Desert Park and the old Pearl Coast Zoo. The latter zoo, which was unfortunately closed back in 1991 due to declining visitor numbers, has been especially influential for me, hence why I was originally planning to set my new zoo in the same region (around Broome). However, when I tried to do some practice landscaping today, I found it was impossible to even get close to emulating the kind of vegetation they have around there with the foliage pieces we currently have in-game. Instead, I decided to move the zoo to the southern Northern Territory, likely near Alice Springs, which the limited amount of foliage pieces we have for arid Australia (or Australia in general) is more tailored towards. I was able to get much more satisfactory results for this region, as can be seen below, but I'll probably try a few different things with the landscape work before I start building the zoo to get the vegetation as close to accurate as possible.
I've also begun planning the zoo's roster, which is mostly a mix of desert animals with some common zoo species from other biomes. This may change as planning continues of course:
I haven't thought up a name yet, but I'm sure it'll come to me - Bloodwood Wildlife Park is tempting but I don't want to keep naming my zoos after trees lol.
