What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

And today I got excited with the livestream and played a little more to finish the interior of the shop:

Does anyone else experience that instead of building something new, do you prefer just like to walk around and look at the beauty of our already complete and finished zoos? becacuse it happens to me sometimes, i don´t know but i really enjoy watching my animals in the habitat that i did for they, planet zoo always will be my favorite game for these reasons :)

Well well well, guess who finally finished something again?
If your guess was me, thats correct, if your guess where the meerkats your correct again.
I rebuild their little shack on grid just to relax a little, but in the end i did alot of terraforming for the lions behind them, most notably to make moats that are deep enough that they cant jump out. I actually started with the devide to the savannah habitat, but one thing let to another and the meerkat habitat is finished now!
meerkat.jpeg

I mostly designed the habitat around the panorama behind them with lions and the elephants in mind, which let to a big hill which made things alot easier to me, as the back half of the habitat was an afterthought to decorate as it isnt visible from the path, good for the animals and good for my sanity. In the end i did pretty it up a bit for prides sake, but guess thats how art is? Who cares that nobody sees it, but YOU know that you did it so you feel great for it.
I also used an ingame fence for the first time in foreever, but i only used the electric top on the faux rocks to keep the lions at bay and not loose anymore sanity at building custom voltage wires.

The Panorama turned out great as you can see, with the lions and elephants being very visible and feeling just the right size. The best part is, eventhough i didnt make a screenshot, that it works even better from a crouched perspective, as the hill is juuuust low high enough to not take away the view of the lions, but cover the backwall of the meerkats themselfs.

And thats it for now, i love making small habitats as they are really manageable to make in 1 or 2 sessions, dont need that much planning and skip out on most of the tedium that can happen when decorating large open habitats, but maybe i also just am better at them and still gotta wrap my head around larger projects, who knows?
But anyways, i can gladly report, this game still slaps and whatever they will add to it, it will only get better and with such an amazing game that really is a treat

I like the heat lamp, might have to steal that idea…

Quick question, how did you get the anteaters in with the sloths?

Fantastic build, @KönigDerKaffeebohnen. Your patience with fencing is something I'll never be able to accomplish

As @abigenius explained, when you turn the WEs into null walls, animals can pass through them like nothing. It's a cool effect if you want to mix up things a little. Like, I love to have null butterfly areas and have my lemurs walk through

While i appreciate the flowers, its really not that hard, allmost meditative and way quicker then you expect.
I took like 5 mins for the meerkats, ~2 for the glass in front, rest for the backwall with the electric fence.
The fence also isnt something fancy, just a stone piece, log and glass and i can just recommend to try it, its way easier then you expect and looks much much better then the "actual" fences

I know my san diego builds dont end up here very often but this wall mural of sorts ended up much better than i expecting. Lots and lots of painfully aligned primitive squares formed this kinda abstract mural for an upcoming second reptile house for the zoo. Anyone who doesnt know, this is one of the most recent/modern children zoos around with soo many pieces to bring it to life.

In the WE the habitat animals can go without problema, just make an habitat and then put a WE there and you can have a nice mix enclousure, its a little bit complex but It worth it
That's an absolutely awesome idea. Never thought of it. I've definitely put in plenty of foliage as well as built around the WTE, but didn't think of putting it in another habitat. Big question though, can the keepers reach it still? Is the WTE path just not connected to any other paths?

Is connected But only zookepers can walk there, honestly i love that enclousure i put a lot of effort and it worth It 100%

Oh that make perfect sense then, as zoo keepers don't have to stick to paths and can wander around anyways. I'm going to put this idea to use! Fantastic idea :)

I've always played around with null fences and paths with this, because I'm not sure if keepers can interact with WEs by just walking in a habitat. So, I try to cleverly (and not so cleverly) blend the paths with building pieces so that keepers can "walk in" without it being too obvious. Know what I mean?

I've recently started Planet Zoo in franchise mode. Started with Wart Hogs and Red River Pigs and a dual habitat, build a bridge over it but it looked janky and poorly made and I wasnt happy. meanwhile the bridge is gone and ive remade the habitat. But at the moment i have some problems with overpopulation and diseases.

the next animals i brought in was Fire Salamande and Axolotl.

After a phase of financial issues, I finally made a new dual enclosure, Aardvarks and Meerkats. it wasn't that expensive and thanks to the axolotls and Merkats, I was able to improve my finances. Axolotl makes some good money by trading

Yesterday, i added Giant Otters to the zoo. since then, my financial situation has improved considerably, and I was able to add a small peafowl enclosure just to fill in a gap.

Now im ready for big cats.

Knocked out by the flu - but after a couple of days of not even being able to get out of bed, I'm finally able to play PZ again. And what a fun time I had building for the Fossa for the first time. I made their habitat way too big (it's 800m²), but I don't feel like changing anything about that now. This habitat is the product of hard labor and if I have to touch that mesh structure again, I'm going to cry (it looks straight in the picture... it's not.)

I still need to put in a few more climbing frames, though.

Been a hot minute since I've posted here! While I've continued to develop ideas for other zoos, I finally had a burst of inspiration to return to Stringybark Zoo and and decided to finish working on that before moving on to any other projects.

Today I started off the new Drylands area with a mixed arid macropod habitat, home to a trio of red kangaroos and an a colony of 8 yellow-footed rock-wallabies. The basic layout of this enclosure took a lot of inspiration from the kangaroo + rock-wallaby habitat at the Adelaide Zoo (as per usual), combining flat open areas with rocky mounds for the wallabies, but my version is far less green and grassy to fit with the dryland theme.

Unfortunately the modded rock-wallabies aren't able to use the rocky mounds they've been given, and my hope is that, in the unlikely scenario that we ever get a rock-wallaby officially, they come with a special climbable enrichment item similar to the ibex.

Next for the Drylands is a small southern hairy-nosed wombat habitat, and after that the area will switch to largely African species.

I really struggled today with what i wanted to do, i build some things, deleted it again, did a little bit of mulch and custom railing in my tropical house, added some more custom fencing to the fallow deer, etc etc and doing many smaller tasks for an hour or just nothing before growing frustrated and closing the game.
Thankfully i gave it a second shot and man am i glad i did.
You know what the worst part of a zoo is?
Going back to stuff you onced thought was great but now that you improved you realise how ugly they are, but you dont want to just completly redo them eventhough that might be easier.
I tried going back with the grasses to a few previous exhibits to pretty them up but it just didnt click, including my lions, but after a bit of trying what started as another just doing something to do something turned into quite the beautiful little viewing area next to the meerkats that hopefully will give me a direction for the rest of the habitat.
Sadly eventhough i really really really tried with the newer barriers to make them inescapeable, they can propaply jump the fence there, but trying to heighten the fence or put cables on top were frankly really ugly so i just took the little hit to realism. Not like the older barriers coming up where better regarding the whole keeping the lions away from the visitors thing.

Upclose view from the viewing gallery, gotta say i do envy my guests for them to come that close to the lions.
