What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

The Meerkat exhibit for my Edinburgh Zoo project is now around 90% finished, I am not quite happy with the outdoor rock structure which needs some more work, I’ll take better reference phots next time I’m at the zoo. After than I need to landscape the open area Infront of the enclosure.

I played two years, and examined the financial problems in my big 113 year old franchise zoo. Unfortunately it appears the problem is my staff salaries, which are already at minimum (both staff and skill level needed to run the area and pay). So I either have to massively expand my current in progress areas (Europe, India, South America, and North Africa), more animals more guests, or I have to massive rework my staff infrastructure to cut down on staff. And due the investment needed for either option... Well I better guess correct. Down to just over 600k in the bank with a deficit each year of 50k. Unfortunately, this really enforce my feeling that zoos hit a spot where they just become too expensive to maintain.

The indoor penguin habitat is now complete, which is now my personal favourite build i've done. 2 king penguin habitats with a guest path right down the middle is a easy cheat way to make a walkthrough without fighting with the water or paths too much, trying to make this as a single penguin habitat with water underneath the path would have been a nightmare to build for. The obvious difference between this and many other indoor penguin habitats is the use of a smooth dome roof with colored lights - a grand total of 55 spotlights both above and below were used to provide a realistic coverage of lighting to mimic the penguins habitat.

While I miss OakWood I gotta admit, this is probably gonna be my best ungulate enclosure. Also got an idea for a short series (since those are all I can do now 😭) so I should hopefully be back on track in a week or 2.

Really nice! Gotta admit, I don’t feel like I’ve ever been happy with an ungulate enclosure - IMO they’re the hardest to get looking really good but you’ve totally managed it!

I'm ill so I making my first zoo shop with the modular pieces!
(btw i love freebuild...but pssssssscht 🤫)
Gosh, Fini, I love that little enclosure you build there and the idea to overlap the letters is just brilliant. I might steal that both for my zoos and my crafting (greeting cards). Your builds are awesome in general, but it's always the little things that flash me.

Not sure if I'll ever achieve your level (and if so, it will take me 10 years to get there), but I'd really love a tutorial on that one.
By the way and a bit off topic, but would you consider doing voice overs for your videos? I love your builds , but it's hard for me to concentrate without someone also explaining a bit what they're doing, so I usually avoid videos without voiceovers, but I'm so torn with yours 😅

Ah I don't know, I've branded myself as a no-commentary channel that is different from all the other planet zoo channels which talk non-stop for 20 or so minutes so making a change would be difficult. It's so easy for me to record the gameplay, slap some music on it and then upload it, making a script and forcing myself to talk to a blank screen is something I struggle with greatly. As some of us may know, my dedicated zoo posts are very wordy which I could bring to the YouTube videos with manually typed subtitles to explain the process as I really can't see myself talking for an hour or so straight. It's like another upcoming video which is my average length of video is still 37 minutes long, I barely last 2 minutes talking to myself 😂

Well, while talking would be prefered I understand where you're comming from, but subtitles would indeed be a good middle ground and appreciated by me at least. :)

So, today I plan to just favourite some smaller pieces in the game, for more easy access and hopefully more motivation to build custim fences in the future.

The last couple of days, however, I build my third attemp of a dhole habitat and I am FINALLY happy with it. Very happy indeed.
That also means I finished of the india-jungle section in Unity. Next up is the african jungle-section (which will use mud houses and such), that will then transition into the Oasis area, featureing more of an north african building style. At least that's the plan.

Here is the dhole habitat.

Dinosaurs in the zoo! A large area of the zoo is dedicated to dinosaur models in a natual setting, while the dinosaurs from the steam workshop (edited, recolored and posed by me) are made to be real life sized instead of the slighly smaller scale the real zoo works at, the life sized dinosaurs work really well amongst large trees and rock features showing guests just how big these dinosaurs really were up close. This dinosaur themed area is really going to push my limits of foilage and rockwork understanding, eroded rocks, sedimentary rock layers, volcanoes and large cascading waterfalls are all very difficult to imagine how to even start building.

Really nice😊
🤔 Maybe I should add a Gallery of extinct Animals in my Discovery Center or somewhere else in the Zoo
