What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Dinosaurs in the zoo! A large area of the zoo is dedicated to dinosaur models in a natual setting, while the dinosaurs from the steam workshop (edited, recolored and posed by me) are made to be real life sized instead of the slighly smaller scale the real zoo works at, the life sized dinosaurs work really well amongst large trees and rock features showing guests just how big these dinosaurs really were up close. This dinosaur themed area is really going to push my limits of foilage and rockwork understanding, eroded rocks, sedimentary rock layers, volcanoes and large cascading waterfalls are all very difficult to imagine how to even start building.

I've never been fond of dinosaur models in real life zoos, they are life-less areas inside a park that was designed for showcasing the thriving current biodiversity, and most of the time the models look cheap and are scientifically outdated. But that isn't your fault obviously, and I must congratulate you for that basalt! I would like to see more of that rock work that you say it pushed your limits.
Well, the experiment was a success! Now export the result to some zoo and show it to us and the guests 😉

That's my experience aswell, almost all of the dinosaur models seen in zoos or theme parks always come off as cheap areas to draw in crowds that otherwise wouldn't visit. Even the calgary zoo planned to replace the dinosaur area with large asian themed habitats over 10 years ago but nothing has happened since, apart from updating the dinosaurs models and adding animatronic ones throughout this dinosaur park.

I'm actually proud of the basalt aswell, thanks! I used plaster rectangle blocks to form a hexagon shape that works really well with this week's challenge - an erupting volcano! The zoo features a volcanic area with lots of interesting rock formations and a dormant volcano, actually using some creativity for once, I'm planning on making this volcano the centerpiece of the park with lava flows transforming into a cooled lava bed.

Soon enough these will be swapped with Scottish breeds (not the stork ofc :p)

I haven't really played much for the past few months, but recently I jumped back. For the first time in a really long time I've actually started a sandbox file. I've adjusted the settings to make it more like franchise mode. The reason for that is because franchise has been a hot mess ever since the last DLC. I am not touching the gift shops at all until all the issues are fixed.

Now onto the zoo. It doesn't have a name yet, I just call it Europe zoo for now. It's a zoo located somewhere in Europe (duh), the entrance is a mix of city european/mediterranian/woodlands theme. I don't want to be stuck making an entrance area for too long because I get bored easily building in the same style for long periods so I expect I'll be jumping around a lot.

At the entrance we have flamingos, swans, fallow deer and wolverines. Things are subject to change as I go along. On the right side I hope to soon start an oceania area.

Top down view of the mess. Things are all over the place. Nothing is finished yet. Oh, and I promised myself I'll only use solar panels just because it's something I've never done.

Flamingo habitat. I've had to play with the water and terrain, and it's still not completely finished.

That flamingo habitat looks lovely, seems like ever after a few month you didnt get any worse ^^

I finally got back to playing seriously after months, cleared a part of my zoo to structure it better, and started redoing my flamingo habitat (based on the old Jurong Bird Park). I focussed mainly on doing the foliage right:

Absolutely love it. Such a Masterpiece. Like the Fences and I absolutely love the Plants. This must have taken a Eternity

Looks nice. One Thing that I like to do is to put a Path with Solar Panels and a Staff Room on the Roof of a big Building

Prehistoric park's rockwork part 2, an impressive cascading waterfall made of a single faux rock! I flipped the cube looking faux rock upside down and basically copy-pasted it all over the waterfall and it came out really nice. Layering rocks is something i've never really done before but all this building in this dinosaur park is great practise, even adding darker colored rocks to mimic wet rocks on the waterfall.Oh yeah there is also a t-rex next to the waterfall, looks tiny with the brachiosaurus in the background.
