What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I played hearthstone only for a couple weeks years ago, and idk why but the voiceline of this one kobold card is engrained in my mind 😂
I played WoW for 7 years. Most of the time as an Alliance (Nightelf Hunter with a white Lion named Hamlet) and I did all the quests that were available back then. And the Tunnel rats and the Murloks are such Memes with their voices. That was a long time ago, it was a wild time.

Come back in the game, Kobolds are back in the new expansion :D I love them!

There was a time I had the idea to recreate the Elwynn Forest in Planet Zoo. And now I'm thinking about it again, thanks to you :')

Did I really spend one and half hour just adding some signs to the Amphibium? 😆 (and it's even just half of the building done)

Ok I think I am going to use Planco for my next zoo, even if it kills me 🙃
Thanks for giving me this idea you 2
At least something good came out of my embarrassing mistake Hahaha

I must have read too fast, because I know how German language is. But it's true that Planco language sounds to me very Central European without really looking like any specific language (that was the obvious intention, duh). That's why I always like trying to use it in European-looking zoos.

For possibly the first time ever, I will have habitats ready for DLC animals. They still need some tweaking but the bulk is done. Ideally the Pallas' cat enclosure would have a mesh roof but it is too much of a struggle...

The Pallas enclosure looks very realistic but maybe it will be too small in game? I guess you tested it with a sand cat.
But Frontier's demanding requirements + traversable area with hitboxes = habitats must be about 1.5x larger than IRL

Very cool! The Markhor enclosure is very realistic, at least what I typicaly see in zoos near me for goat-like animals.
Is this a sandbox build? Because I fear the space for Pallas Cat will not be sufficient in challenge/franchise due to the huge hitboxes.

Thank you, it’s inspired by Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki but with a generally more rustic feel to the materials and buildings. I only ever work in sandbox so hopefully it will be ok.

Time for a new sandbox build! A zoo set in the desert near the Flinders Ranges here in South Australia is an idea I've had for a very long time - much of my family lives up that way so its a bit of a second home for me, and the position of Port Augusta as "the crossroads of Australia" (whether going from Perth to Sydney or Adelaide to Darwin, chances are you're passing through Port Augusta) would make it a more viable location to set up a zoo than most arid towns. I even still have a species list I made for my original Port Augusta Zoo concept back in August of 2020, only a few days after the Australia Pack released. More than four years later, I've finally actually gotten around to making a start on it!

So far I've been playing good old Planet Entrance, building the road in, the small carpark, the bus parks + gates and the visitor centre. It's still not fully finished, but its at the stage where I'm comfortable showing it off. The entrance to the visitor centre takes inspiration from the Wadlata Outback Centre, a small museum and coffee shop in Port Augusta that constitutes one of the town's most popular tourist attractions.

(entrance to the real Wadlata Outback Centre for comparison, you can see how I went for a very similar design in regards to the staircase and the large corrugated iron water tanks on either side of the doors)

complex-entry.jpg

I've never been the best with building interiors, but I think what I've got going here so far looks pretty good! The majority of the visitor centre is devoted to the gift shop, but it also contains the zoo's first two animals, their exhibits built into a faux rock face. With a new zoo also comes a new custom infoboard format, and this time around I went for an stylised angular design that takes some inspiration from the infoboards at Adelaide Zoo. The designs for the habitat and exhibit infoboards will be slightly different, with the habitat infoboards being more detailed thanks to their larger size.

The last thing I worked on was the foliage, which is currently located out front of the visitor centre. The chenopod shrublands that dominates much of the southern part of the Australian interior are quite difficult to replicate in-game unfortunately, with most of the desert plants from Australia we have being from more central or northern deserts, but I think the mix of plants I chose here gets closest to matching the environment in question.

Planet%20Zoo%20Screenshot%202024.10.02%20-%2017.35.56.82.png

So what's in store for this zoo going forward? As you can imagine the zoo will mostly be focused on species from the world's drylands, particularly Africa and Australia, though there will be some exceptions. I plan for it to be largely vanilla, though I will probably be having the yellow-footed rock-wallaby as a modded species here because a zoo located in the Flinders Ranges not having the region's most iconic animal would be absurd. I've got a broad idea of how the zoo will be set out, with the area close to and to the left of the visitor centre being more high budget and built up thanks to recent renovations while other parts are more rustic. I don't have much confidence that many of the animals in the new pack, whatever it is, will fit into this zoo, though the Hamadryas baboon will be featured of course.

Haha, don't worry. I hope you can laugh about this little funny mistake:D🫶
And I guess you are right, PlanCo does really sound a bit like a Central European language. But I actually don't really know how PlanCo works, so I don't think I could ever translate anything into it.

I love it! Really like the way you incorporated the exhibit into the rockwork.

Foliage and rock work is amazing, I gotta say. And it has a nice modern, yet rustic feel, good work!

Well, it's me again. You can probably expect quite a few posts of me in th next days. We have a holiday tomorrow here and I take a day off on Friday, so I have four days off from work. As I'm a little ill, I have not much planned, so plenty of PZ for me! Also, my creative ideas are coming back and I ant to do a lot.:D
So, today evening I've finished the Amphibium.

In addition, I decided to jump on the Pallas' cat hype train and add them to Biopark. So, I started to do the layouts for the habitat, located just between the snow leopards and the Mongolian steppe. There was that perfect little empty spot...

Not sure about the markhor yet. They would fit perfectly into this area, too, but I don't really have space left for a larger habitat. Maybe I throw a couple of them on the takin enclosure.

I have committed not one, not two but three sins against myself today.
Sin 1. Im expanding a gridded building with another larger building that isnt on the same grid
Sin 2. The building wont be on a grid and be shaped like a curve
Sin 3. It also features a walkthrough exhibit which is still way to large and way to straight

But why am i doing this to myself?
Well the zoo wuppertal has recently announced that they are relocating their babirusa to make space for an expansion to their elefant park and their chosen spot was next to their bird house, where their indoor holding will be inside their freeflying tropical bird area. Also they are gonna be mixed with small clawed otters, a new species to the zoo. And i gotta say babirusa otter mix in a free flying hall sounds awesome, so thats what im trying to do. Sadly we got no birds so ill use flying foxes instead.

Wish me luck cause this will be one hell of a finicky build
