What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Not posting much post on the forum. I'm enjoying everything everyone is building, so cool!

In my Zoo I try to house all the species of animals in the game, although my laptop sometimes doesn't seem to think that's a good idea.
The counter is now at 98 species and almost 1,200 animals, so I still have a lot to do!

I can call this the Marvinb appreciation post. Still a lot of work to do, but like his new assets so much, that I want to show you some updates. If I see how my PC starts to struggle at this moment, I need another PC to finish this project eventually.

Since I want to create a background around the zoo, I've started working on a small industry area. It will have an old factory and a bus depot, with also a connection to the subway line for maintenance

Of course the kids of the city can play some sports as well. Guests parking in the underground parking garage will pass this field

Another option to visit the zoo will be via the subway. Next to the station is a building for which is have no plan yet. Was thinking about a small hotel

Thanks to Marvin the entrance is now also reachable via a direct bus line! Line 19 brings you directly to the zoo

Also the bicycles including the shed has found its place inside the zoo and our employees are happy to use them when doing their job

Still needing to add a lot of the nice cars and the open space in the back will be used as a parking area for touring cars

Here you have an overview of the zoo so far. The three red dots are spawning locations for the guests. So either via subway, the parking garage or the parking lot they can start their visit

What better way to kick off my 18 day vacation and snow day activity than starting a brand new zoo? I’m calling this one Alden Woods Zoo. It’s set in the temperate biome. This time around, I’m going to try my hand at realism since everything else I’ve been making has been in the vein of zoological parks where the animals look like they’re in their natural habitats with minimal barriers.

This is my first attempt at a parking lot. The entrance is just about done. Just some more detailing to do. Probably gonna save the parking lot detailing and striping for later. I want to get the entrance plaza and entrance habitat started first.

Finally back in Mariasiel after doing a bunch of blueprint pack sidequests. Although only to essentially tear pretty much most of it down and rebuild it, since i grew very discontent with the previous entrance, parking lot and harbour area . Still tons of work left to do, but im WAY happier with this version.
Went for a much more down to earth approach instead of that abstract weirdness the real life inspo has going on, and this one fits the north sea coast vibe way better anyways

Today I have been trying to blend a transition between the plaster and the rustic stone walls... Overall I think the idea looks OKish and it will look better when I add even more decals. But at certain hours the oblique light betrays me and the shadows start to look bad 😣

Can somebody plz quickly confirm me that my giraffe placeholder is the same height than a real ingame giraffe?? Otherwise I am going to be in trouble redesigning the shelter when its inhabitants arrive 😅

Looks to be slightly oversized. Should be easy to roughly measure tho, with the wall pieces being 4m, 2m and 1m.
Giraffe are usually between 4 and 5,5 meters tall

Honestly your best bet is to just build a small habitat around it, throw in a giraffe, and fiddle with it while checking the traversible area.

Edit: As Marvin said, a 6m height should be fine, but the width is the finicky part.

Sorry for some necroposting. But you guys were right, the giraffe sign is way bigger than a real giraffe (did we really need it to be upsized, Frontier? Isn't the real height of a giraffe tall enough??).

The gate still needs slight tweaks but I'm happy I could do a simple but working stables with a privacy area for the Somali asses that is not accessible for the giraffes. But I had to remove the central column of the gate so that they could at least exit it, a pity! Haha

I created a massive habitat for the smallest elephant in the world, and the cape buffalo's smaller, more reclusive cousin! There's a link in the youtube thread if you're interested in seeing how I made it :)

I guess this is starting to look like an actual zoo.

Also... does anyone have any trick to make the monkeys stay in the islands but the rest of the animals in the ground?

Is going to be a Chaco mixed exhibit enclosure with red footed tortoise (i manage to make a "cave" system for them  right under the viewing platform and it is indeed transversable!!), chacoan or white lipped peccaries (haven't decided yet), Muitu (a curassow species) and a species of capuchin. But i want the monkeys to live in the trees of the earth "islands" in the middle.

The islands will have it be their own separate habitat. I’d recommend starting the habitat with the gate to the left of the little suspension bridge. Place null barriers around the perimeter of the top of both of the islands, including the crossing points between them. Then use rocks and climbable items for them to cross between the islands and prevent them from getting down to the ground level since that would technically be escaping. That should keep your monkeys up above and everything else below.
