Been struggling on starting a new zoo (put Hinterland Zoo on hold for now), but the new DLC was enough of a motivator for me to sit down and get to work. I really enjoyed building the one-off wombat habitat I made for the Twilight Pack, and so I decided that I'd make a temperate Australian zoo with the same kind of building style. The first thing I did was place down a selection of plants and building pieces I would use throughout the zoo to keep things consistent (most ripped directly from the wombat habitat), as well as two blueprints for information signs. Sidenote, I did not realise the silky oak tree (which came with the Twilight Pack) was a species of
Grevillea, which makes it the first Oceanian tree added to the game since the Australia Pack! Still, what we really need is more eucalypts, hence why the stringybark still dominates this park (even thinking of calling it "Stringybark Zoo") with the silky oak only occurring in small clumps.
To start off the zoo, I placed down a winding road across one side of the map to give somewhere for the zoo to join up to. After that, I spent many hours playing Planet Landscaping and building up the area between the road and the edge of the map - for some reason my brain doesn't like me placing down pre-made foliage clump blueprints and instead insists I place down every piece of foliage individually, which I did. Still, I was pretty happy with the final result.
After all those hours placing down bracken, I relaxed a bit by temporarily plopping down some emus and wallabies into the grassy clearing and just watching them roam around. It was a fun way to get a good look at them given I won't be building for them right away (thinking the entrance area is going to be mostly South American, with capybaras, caimans, capuchins and maned wolves).
After a long break (aka a sleep given I built the rest yesterday) I played Planet Carpark and built a low-budget parking lot just off the main road, complete with a small seating area amongst the trees. I also built a special bus parking area given I always use coaches as guest spawners.
Hopefully either later today or tomorrow I should get started on the zoo entrance itself.
