What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

The lagoon from the elephant habitat also serves the Indian rhino habitat next door:

And your zoo tour continues with the proboscis monkey:

Started a zoo today. Decided not to go too hard, so I built a modest entrance in the Classic theme. Haven't got a screenshot as yet, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I'm planning on building a decently big Tropical Hall in-line with the entrance in the same style. These will be pretty much the only two buildings left over from the "old" zoo. The rest of the architecture will be more modern, or in a 70's breezeblock/painted brick style.

I'm struggling to think of what animal to put in first. I'm planning on keeping flamingos in the African section, so not them. The giant tortoises will go with the Tropical Hall, so they're out, too. I considered African penguins, but I want to hold off on trying an underwater viewing area just now. I also want to avoid climbing equipment just yet, as I haven't played in a long while, so primates and red pandas (my usual go-to) are off the table.

Maybe badgers? They're pretty simple.

I haven't played much lately because I've been super busy with work, but last weekend I've gotten my grove back and started a new zoo. The idea is that it's a bit of a simple zoo/city zoo (and it doesn't have a name yet). I want everything to feel a bit cramped and tight, especially enclosures (but still big enough so that the animals are happy cause this is franchise). I'm trying to inject a bit more colour here and there so it's not all just different shades of brown and gray.

I haven't gotten much done yet, but I've got the entrance, the prairie dogs, the fallow deer and two exhibit animals - the bullfrog and the terrapin. Pics in spoilers.

The entrance - it's not finished, but I'm very happy with it.

Here are some toilets and some food and drinks. I wanted this little building to be different than the entrance going with the story that it was added later or maybe was renovated. Needs more detail and it's not finished.

Here's a little prairie dog habitat. Pretty simple, just some rocks and foliage. They don't really get stressed which I think makes them perfect entrance animals.

Here are the exhibit animals. Very simple, I made a custom trellis shading, and I really like this cute spot with the tree and the bench.

Here's the fallow deer habitat. Nothing much to say, it's pretty simple, but I like it.

Well I've been a busy birdy today.

I don't have a name for this zoo yet but;

The entrance, going on the classic theme here. You can see in the background the [SOMETHING] House, an historic building that in the "old zoo" was probably a monkey house or something. It's now the Tropic Hall.

I still need to plant the front of the zoo here but I'm not a gardener, so it takes me a while.

Here is the preserved Old Gate. Beyond the game's map limits I'm imagining a modern street and carpark, but this gate would have served as the zoo entrance in the historic past. I love the vista points; people actually stop and take pictures! Really neat touch!

This is the newly-built Vet Centre, with an internal quarantine facility. It can't handle big animals but it's good for smaller species. It's nothing particularly special.

Next is the badger habitat. I'm probably going to fiddle around with this some more because it was sort of a practice run and I'm not entirely happy with it. It's deliberately small. I'd like to add a covered viewing area in front with a live-feed screen to the burrow that they almost never use.

This is the backstage of the badger habitat. The little cage isn't functional, but I imagine it as a place where the animals can be separated if need be.

Next is the king penguin habitat. It originally had African penguins in it, but then it snowed and I thought, no, that's dumb, so I switched them out and changed up the environment. These are all males, because keeping up with their breeding is a challenge and I didn't build an appropriate nesting area for them (looking forward to that challenge when I put in seals and sea lions). In my "lore" these are male penguins from other zoos that they couldn't keep anymore.

Lastly, the Tropic Hall. I originally planned on including giant tortoises, Komodo dragons, dwarf caimans, and cassowaries in here, but I'm not that good of a builder so I went with something simpler, just exhibits. There's a mix of invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles, but I've left some out for use in other parts (such as the Australian animals for the Australia section, some South American species for a South American section).

The exterior could use a little more detailing I think but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. The interior is minimal, but I hate doing interiors.

I'm planning on starting Africa next over behind the badgers with a Kopje, which will contain a mixed meerkat/aardvark habitat, fennec foxes, and mandrills (placeholding for baboons until we get them). Before that, though, I'm going to do a lemur habitat to practice with the climbing equipment again, because it's really been a long time since I've played. Even so, it's good to get back into it again. I'm trying not to get too ambitious, because that's usually what kills my joy. For example, in my last really good zoo I tried too hard to create covered habitats using the new mesh pieces and could never get it right, and then I tried to build a fully-indoor proboscis monkey habitat with a really creative design but I just couldn't get it to work. Nothing kills motivation more than spending hours on the same thing, at least for me.

This time I'm going to take it slow, move away from habitats and into decorating if I get it wrong, and not try anything too major. Wish me luck!

Playing around this afternoon. Not sure if it will end up as a full zoo but it is inspired by places like the zoos in Lisbon and Rome.

Wow, I definalety need this inspiration for Unitys Kingdom as well.

So, today I demolished my savannah habitat and decided to actually revisit the kingdome again and start "the land of lights" another time.

A few days ago I also started "The Wilderness" in Unity, starting with the prairie dogs and a desert look.

I'm really stuck with my zoos. I need to make some radical changes to my woodland/forest park as the guests are unhappy about having to walk so far up such steep terrain (oops) and I can't bring myself to trash the place and start again. So I've mostly been opening new maps and closing them again as I can't settle on anything. I might just do a small Australian desert zoo to get back in the swing of things. Maybe. Urgh.

Loving everyone's screenshots btw.

Continued work on my desert zoo. The entrance is now pretty much done only need to add some landscaping and a few more benches and stuff.

😍 It's so beautiful.
I need to get the Africa Pack as soon as possible for those Palm Trees alone. There are already multiple Projects I want to use them in🌴
Also need to continue my North American Dessert Zoo someday. The Alligator Enclosure is already built

I did a bit of work on my Kopje today. The big central building hides the backstage stuff (undecorated, interiors are too much of a pain), and the keeper hut/staff room. Originally I planned a meerkat/aardvark mixed exhibit but the space I delegated was too large, so I cut it in half and did meerkats on one side and fennec foxes the other, and then a third larger habitat is for hyenas. Still a bit of decorating to do around it, but I like how it's coming along.
