What do you miss from Alpha/Beta?
* Graphics quality
* Sound quality
* Stability and reliability
* Like minded and enthusiastic player base
* Mature and helpful forum
* Lack of board game expansions
* One time operation scanners
* Proper pirates
* Working Universal Cartographics interface
* The hope that Elite Dangerous would continue the style and immersion of Elite
* Interdictions based on skill not RNG
* Having to rely on your own contribution, not just pushing the wing easy button
* Close to 100% sever uptime
* Game balance that didn't mean that a fighter could kill any ship
* Undiscovered systems close to populated space
* Questions about whether there would be a wipe
* No transaction server errors
* The sense that you were part of something that would only improve with time
* Expectation of a true solo mode
* No shield cells
Have to stop, my tea is brewed.

Make it a strong one, Keep Calm and...Carry On

Great list, nasty shield cellssss

I still enjoy playing though but doing my best to ignore and not get sucked into the mass farming/grinding. I didn't feel that in Beta, you were just trying to progress, somehow it was different. I took a 3 week break before 1.3 and I think they are improving the game but at the moment giving powerplay a miss. I'm not going to light the touch paper of offline mode but wouldn't a semi story driven player centric Elite been good?

Bobbleheads
FA/Off Boost speed, especially with the Viper
Dense asteroid fields.
Railguns, Multiguns and Rockets with hell of a punch.
The variations of Weapons like Supercharged, Low Energy and stuff.
The ship prices. :)

But really, the whole game turned out great.
So much new stuff i love since the first public Beta, where i jumped in.
Not only the stable netcode and performance we have now. But so much small things like the Pilots Federation Decals,
living supercruise space, sortable outfitting menu, the route planer, the dev cam, the balancing, the community goals, wings and sure the powerplay too. Drones.
Everyone finds one or two things he liked better in the past and want something changed, but overall the game as a whole evolved great i think.
The only thing i miss is the frequent addition of new stuff, new Starports, Outposts and the confidence that there will be 25 ships on the release...
Overall the development seams shrunk down since the release. Especially the sleepy and lazy release of Paintjobs are disappointing me since then.

The game is of course way better now, but I miss the sense that the FD developers were following their own vision, and that we were just along for the ride. Now it seems that Michael Brookes is always running around trying to keep whining players happy.

The forums have become a lot more noisy and whiney since release, and the quality of forum feedback has dropped dramatically as a result. Most complaints are really about how the game should make that person more powerful or wealthy - i.e. an easier game. FD should just filter out those complaints and do their own thing. It will be a better game for it.

Freeport and all the craziness to be had in that system and shooting people inside stations, that was immense fun while it lasted.....good times.

Save the Capital Ship.

Back in early development there was a scenario where a Capital Ship had broken down and we had to fend off NPC fighters while they repaired their drive. After a while they did eventually get their engine up and running and jumped away so that we "won" the scenario. Similar rescue scenarios would be great for them to reinstate...I'm sure they will eventually, but I don't really understand why they haven't yet since it has already been possible previously.

Yeah...and this! Great memories of dual cannons (they were faster back then) in Vipers. Way overpowered but some really fun duels! :D

Aye, I often wonder why this kind of thing hasn't returned to the game.

The 'ethics & credits' scenario was originally slightly better than the current RES' too. Those big mining Anacondas that we could pirate, it also made a little bit more sense because you could choose to defend them. Now it doesn't feel quite so much like the 'wanted' ships are in the RES for any special reason.

Yes, I hope the plan is to eventually have "mining bases" or processing plants of some sort around these resource sites. Either in the form of some huge dockable NPC controlled mining ship/rig or...oh, I don't know...maybe something like this:

I have a feeling that this is the true idea of these areas. Basically a sort of "mine" with a central "control center" of some sort that has been moved or built there due to the high concentration of valuable resources in that area. Would make the RES seem a lot more logical.

Enough rep with the owner of these bases would also allow you to buy the mined resources straight from the source for a cheaper price than going to the station. They should also have the ability to contract you for mining missions to fill a quota.

What d oI miss from Alpha/Beta?

Patches that actually improved the game and got rid of bugs.

You don't seem to remember beta very well then. As those patches generally destroyed things. Beta 2 in particular made the game unplayable for about 3 or 4 days - no one could actually log in!

Oh well, I never really had time to even try the .01 - .04 patches, .05 or .06 did tend to work quite well. :)
Ah come on, don't be like that. Take the rough with the smooth. The game has come on leaps and bounds from a year ago, it can only get better.
Oh well, to be fair - it is just .03 now - by .06 we might see some improvement... ;)

I've watched both The Mighty Jingles' and Isinona's videos on the Alpha combat tests, and I wish I would've pledged! To have everyone in Sidewinders shooting at each other, with a brilliant background.

Tinman, I want Rock Hermits. :p

Comrade Napoleon mentioned the fish markets. Oh, the fish markets... I miss them too :)

You always knew where you were with the fish.

It was probably the smell ;)

Also, doing Buckyball runs and having to plot your route by hand!
