What do you want in Elite: Dangerous?

Straight forward, I am kinda interested in what players want in Elite: Dangerous. Do you want a new ship? Do you want to battle a Thargoid? Or maybe just a huge pile of credits? Do you want to become good in combat and/or PvP? Do you want to fully engineer a ship/fleet? Do you want to get all the ranks to Elite and Admiral/Knight? maybe discover distant, unseen stars and planets so you can put your name on it?

And the next but most important question: Do you feel you are progressing towards that? How do you get there or what keeps you from getting there?

Aiming towards the discovery of a general problem (or multiple) here (if they exist) so guides and advice will be more helpful for a greater audience.

To some extent all of the above. Am I progressing to all of that, yup, but extremely slowly as I believe that the journey is far more important then the actual goal, so therefore take my time to make sure I am enjoying myself.

Different planets with gravities and atmospheres, an orrery, modding tools (at least where players can create mission storylines and stuff).

The intent of the question is clear, and we all look forward to the series from an experienced Cmdr. But the thing I get most from Elite is disconnection from Earthbound gravitic reality, and a place to have unfettered freedom of movement in the Cosmos.

Since I get that from even a Sidewinder fresh from the shop, there really are few impediments to the process.

I would like to become a better pilot though. Specifically a better pilot in combat.

I'd like some engaging and interesting gameplay that's deep, challenging, requires skill and knowledge as well as a good MP network and some social things for my friends along with a butt ton of crap out there to discover :)

I want an alien ship. One you have to mine alien tech for and gather recipes for. A bad*** ship that is nothing like what Gutamaya, Lakon or anyone else can conceive. Not necessarily a Thargoid ship either...but one that is good at destroying them. An unknown, ancient blueprint for a ship from a long presumed extinct species.

... And make it something perhaps exclusive to Colonia -- something you can't get in the bubble, but perhaps have to travel far for.

Also while on the topic of Colonia, perhaps a few engineers? Be it Engineers you have to fully unlock, or Engineers that were perhaps understudies of the main ones in the bubble, and therefore already unlocked for players who have unlocked the main ones. After all it would kind of make sense for the core Engineers to want to expand their operations without having to be in both places.

In a nutshell all summarized up, I just want Elite to be fun and interesting to play. I want it to hold my interest while challenging me in non-combat ways.

I could list a huge number of changes and additions I’d love to see in the game, things I feel would help to achieve this, but boiled down it all gets simplified to my above statement. Particularly with regards to exploration in Elite, but ultimately regarding other aspects too like trading, mining, salvaging, etc.

Now, do I feel the game is progressing towards this? I feel it might be taking a few steps there later this year, but overall no, I feel like the non-combat aspects of Elite are often a much lower priority to Frontier than the combat aspects are. Even so far in Beyond I feel like combat is still getting a large focus from FDev, too large a focus considering that it’s in much better shape currently than any other aspect of the game.

My hunch is that I’ll like the Q4 update a lot, but my fear is that whatever comes after Q4 will go back to neglecting the aspects of the game I love and yearn for.

Interesting and varied planets to land on. Doesn't have to be earth-likes.

Huh, some responses are geared towards what we would like to see added to ED, while others are more geared towards what personal goal we are striving for in game currently. After reading the OP more carefully I think he was aiming for the latter rather than the former.

Which means my initial response is off target, lol!

Although my response ironically isn’t much different either way. Right now I have no goals in Elite because I’ve stopped playing until exploration and the non-combat side is made more fun and interesting. Hopefully Q4 revitalizes my will to play, but if it does not then I might be done with the game. So no goals currently, but looking to hopefully start some new ones when/if the game gives me a reason to.

Same answer as I always give: I want atmospheric landings & maybe get out of my seat.

I like the extra play Horizons (2.0) added to the game with planetary landings, I'd like to be able to land on more planets. I'd like there to be more to do on the planets (or more stuff to find, more intuitive ways to find stuff etc but even if it's no more than we currently have I'd like to be able to visit more of the planets than now.

Really I already like the game as it is & want more of the same.

Is the question concerning what’s in the game now? If so nothing I’m happy with the ships/rank I’ve attained so far thanks for asking.

BUT if the questions about what do I want to see come to ED? Well that’s a whole different kettle of fish.

The only thing I don't have checked off yet is long range exploring. Between ranks, ships, engineering, goids, Guardians, PP, bounty hunting, even a little mining, it seems like heading out into the black has been a step or two away for a few months now.

I think people misinterpret it with what they want in the future. I was more referring to what palyers do want in the currently existing Elite: Dangerous as it is now.

I guess I did misunderstand.
Honestly, I don't want anything in the existing game. Sadly I've grown bored of ED as it currently stands.
hence my "future wants". :)

Nothing, I've almost stopped caring. I'd like to see someone else do a good open space sim, I don't think FD have the inhouse talent to create depth and storytelling, they are technically very able, but, ah....

All of that GAAS crap (which really is just an excuse to sell half-finished games) has dissuaded me from purchasing any more FD products too.

Well, time to let someone else have a go (no, no, not you Croberts).
