What feature do hope will be updated/refreshed for early 2023?

BGS and Crime and Punishment - Those are needed serious changes (especially for anarchies)

About PP, I have a suggestion about it for FDev: What, if all current PP characters will be soon gathered in one station and after it, they'll be killed by unknown terrorists, which for them, this system is their home? After this event, all PP bubbles will suddenly disappears, same with PP characters, because they'll be already dead. That event will be relief for all factions, which suffers under their rules.

(Yeah, crazy idea)

Me, still flying in Mobius & Solo, but It's what I would expect. This, and Kumo- Burger rares :geek:
It would be more equitable to create a new Open only mode, with its own galaxy state, for those who don't want to share the galaxy with the rest of the player base....

This would leave the existing mode shared galaxy, that all players affect, for players who don't want to see existing game content PvP gated to open.

For large features which haven't had a rework recently / at all:

- bulk trade: hasn't really changed since Elite 1, plenty of options to make it more complex or meaningful
- rare trade: hasn't been updated since 1.0 and has gradually become entirely obsolete
- travel: supercruise was put in in a hurry for 1.0 and while generally pretty good has issues around both wide binary systems and inter-ship interaction; rethinking that could allow a lot more of interest for smuggling, organic encounter development, etc. but it feels too late in the day to be touching something so fundamental.
- CQC: pointless to rework this significantly while the Odyssey and Horizon servers are separated, but maybe by 2023 that won't be the case.
- Powerplay: certainly needs it but probably needs a scrap-and-replace-entirely rather than just a rework
- Ship Engineering: wouldn't normally expect this to be a subject of another rework given how many it's gone through, but they did have that thread a while back to ask for ideas.
- Passenger missions: with the changes in Beyond to missions and signal sources they could start to implement more complex passenger missions where the passenger asks you to do stuff, so you then might have a cabin on-board a multirole or even combat ship for that. Could also integrate with Odyssey quite well.

My guess would be most likely Powerplay or Rares (separated enough that if it doesn't work out it won't make things worse for most players) ... or Engineering yet again just because they did have that thread.

Bottom line: Will never happen.

I'm hoping that would mean 'material gathering' as that is mostly what people are really objecting to. Would also work nicely with a bit of TLC to SC to make that a more engaging experience, rather than a 'tab out and wait for sounds of trouble'.
Or what about balance? Engineering isn't just about gathering materials. In my opinion ship combat was vastly better before Engineers were added. The benefits are ridiculous, make PvE a farce and railroad PvP.

Frontier have talked about balance passes in the past, but never actually went through with them.

Of course the grind required, especially in Engineers V1, was so high that Frontier are now scared to take anything away from the players after they've spent hours upon hours for their rewards.

Oh, I disagree entirely. Quite the opposite, actually.

The benefits of even G3 enginering are tangible: G5 enables a competent PvE build that is not solely focused on combat, giving very wide choice of builds.
PvP is railroaded because 'the meta' is tiresome and boring, but is still 'the meta'.
Of course other opinions are just as valid as mine.

I just think it's almost impossible for Frontier to get the balance right, while Engineering benefits are that great. Instead of improving your ships shields by 10%, Engineering improves it by 1000%.

NPCs being a non-issue in general is a separate issue I'd say.

edit: I wanted to add a concrete example, here's the Cutter's shield strength:
Stock: 703 MJ
A-rated: 943 MJ
Including SBs: 2451 MJ
Engineered: 9530 MJ

Are they?

Things can get quite spicy in a Threat 7 or higher mission... A Med/High CZ can be quite taxing if Spec Ops drop in, even ion a well engineered ship (although, of course, a Corvette / Cutter with prismatics and every module slot filled with armour and shield reinforcements might not find it so, perhaps I build my stuff wrong? ;))

Perhaps, as I am only a mediocre pilot when it comes to combat I find the challenge more exhilarating in comparison to an expert, so am grateful for my limitations, I suppose.

Sure, they could. Good luck getting anyone to agree on what would be balanced :)

After a year of waiting for the 'feature rework' if it turns out to be 'we nerfed your ships kthxbai' I can't see that going down well. But hey, this is fdev who have been looking forward all year to the exciting things they have planned, so 🤷‍♀️

I'm quite happy about the way they've got the BGS. It flows through the galaxy and binds it together... maybe more influence rewards for those willing to risk Open

But I most definitely agree about Power Play. It should never have been in the group and solo modes in the first place
