What happened to the FSS ?

Please do - the FSS has had a devastating impact on the game for some players that FD have never acknowledged.

In my case:
  • Pre-FSS - pretty happy with the game as a whole and enjoying it.
  • Post-FSS - not playing at all because I don't enjoy being forced to use it.
Despite what the likes of Max 'Last Word' Factor have to repeatedly say on the subject, this is not what progress looks like.
So you're only watching the forums because?!?

Good, go and use an appropriate thread please.
I must admit I'm getting sick and tired of "bring back the ADS" posts in every. single. FSS. related. thread. It's to the point where legitimate discussion about the FSS, by people who like the FSS, is being derailed almost constantly. In this particular case, people who enjoy the FSS don't want the ADS back, so no, that is not a "solution" to FSS-related bugs!

A giant hook needs to come and drag these people off the stage.

Agreed.

The game never truly dies when you have an LEP.
I just need a decent reason to fire it up again.
But it doesn't look like I'll get one until at least Xmas 2020 and even then previous form suggests FD probably can't deliver.
Well, perhaps then go to one of the other threads which are actually about people who stopped playing because of XYZ.There are quite a lot of those.

Seems like a bunch of off topic baiting, complaining for being off topic, or genuinely being off top. Come on guys... I thought you knew better. Don't copy that floppy.

Well the easiest solution to that problem is for FDev to bring back the ADS :p

Frontier happened. All this stirs up the discontentment with the FSS as well. All that could have been avoided if Frontier would just allow a honk to map all the signals found in the system map. So any explorer not interested in further analyzing bodies would be able to see the general layout of the system. The FSS scanner already detects what kind of bodies it are and where the signals are located. Anyone else interested in the properties of a planetary body could use the FSS.

Surely the easiest solution is to just ignore them.
The easiest solution would have been not to remove them at all. That moment has passed, so putting them back in is the next logical move (or justifying their removal).

This way no players will be adversely affected compared to the current situation.

This problem isn't going to go away through inaction.

Why? Its like me saying i dont want rails in the game. I am free not to fit them to my ship so whats the issue? The blame for this forum becoming such a cespit lays with those people who want to prevent others having fun. Even if they returned the ADS dealing with this forum has given me personally considerable apathy towards the game and its devs. Its caused a great deal of sourness all round and it should have been dealt with a very long time ago.

And that would ruin the FSS and exploration for me, knowing that the honk has already found what I am looking for in the FSS. The would be the worst solution.

That boat has already sailed.

See above

There is no problem apart from your own. FDev don't have one apart from the obvious bugs.

This bug doesn't affect me, yet I am not diminishing the importance of it being fixed just because I'm not affected by it.

Putting the ADS back into the game is the middle ground. Inaction will not solve the problem. Not removing existing game elements without good reason would have meant there was no problem at all, putting them back in (with a sincere apology after this long) is the only realistic solution. Fortunately it would be very easy and only the protracted delay creates any friction at all for me at least. Others may be less sympathetic to design oversights.

Look, this thread is about problems with the operation of FSS that have been introduced in the latest patch. Would all the "FSS is jobbie give me back my ADS" moaners please go post about their whines in an appropriate thread. (Preferably in a write-only sub-forum.)

Will has responded, that topic has been addressed. There is no need for any more on that topic. All of these bug complaint threads should be closed with a referral to the issues tracker.

ETA 30/10/19: For clarity (because someone has quoted this post out of context) here is Wills post that I refer to:

A popular upgrade is a very good reason to replace something

There was no oversight and there was no need to keep the old ADS and they do not need to apologise to anyone. This is their game and they decide what they want to do with it whether you or I like it or not.
