What I'd love to see in Elite Dangerous Odyssey in time

Hello everybody, this is just my list what I'd love to see in the Odyssey in the future. I've splited up the list as I understand some things have priority over the others.

This is NOT about bugfixing, telling again and again about performance issues and stuff, for that there are plenty of other threads and issues in tracker. I am trying to create those scenarios with existing assets, so the programmers wouldn't need to create some now animations and stuff, just they use existing ones.

I just want to see to Odyssey as a new era in Elite and I'd like to share my visions for what I'd love to come next. And I'll be superhappy if you write your visions down bellow ♥️

I'll update this list with your suggestions, if I like them, with a link to the post you've came with the idea.

First phase

  • More on-foot mission types
    • Transfer a power regulator
      • You just steal the power regulator in the base and provide it for the other base.
    • Save a personell from base
      • Nonviolent version: Meaning you travel (with your ship or with APEX) to that settlement, where scavengers will held some people you can't kill and you can't kill those scavengers.
      • Covert version: You travel to the base, where there's some personell you have to escort normally, but if they see you with them, they will try to stop you (shooting).
      • Normal version: You travel to the base, there are scavs everywhere (outside), you have to kill them (or you don't, depends on you), but there is some habitrat building, you must zap the doors and then the passengers run to your ship. Scavs can kill them, meaning that's a mission failure. (So better to kill the scavs, clean the way for those prisoners). Once they're at your ship safely, you go to the place when they want and they will reward you (in a simillar manner as in that transport somebody mission bellow).
      • Rescue missions – use those security cells for prisoners or hostages. (Raliel)
    • Transport somebody
      • Yes, classic transport missions, but on foot. Somebody placed an order to travel somewhere, you go to that settlement (with a ship with passenger cabins or without, just like apex), disembark, find a guy/girl on terminal, came to him, hit "E" and escort him/her to your ship, travel to the other place/settlement/station, land and hit "disembark." Then he will disembark with you. Then you'll return to your mission giver for a reward (or optionally the passenger will give that reward to you directly)
    • Be a guard in the settlement
      • You land in some settlement, let you hire as a guard there (if the reputation is good enough) and you will spend some time (depends on you) at that settlement, there will be waves of scavs (not tens, just one or two trying to steal power regulator and stuff), you just got the message "scavengers just hit disable power regulator." You then must run to the power building, kill scavs, stop the countdown (in time). You can stop whenever you want just go to the terminal in settlement and hit "mission complete" or something. Then the waves of scavs stops.
      • This will ups your reputation with a settlement.
      • In next phase it could be even in some form as a conflict zones, so the players can be those scavs. (But this is just veeeery optional)
    • Transport a ship for someone
      • Somebody wants the ship to be transfered, so you just take an Apex, goto the place where the ship is located, hop in, transport it to the place, disembark, mission done.
      • Threats means if the for example ship is with a bounty or the ship is severely damaged or something.
    • Be a pilot for hikers
      • Simply state "I am going to this system, this station, is there anybody here who wants to take there?" And let the passenger cabins fill up, e.g. 1 passenger every 10 seconds.
      • Then you hit "that's enough" (just lanuch the ship :-D ) and you go there.
      • There will be fixed prize for the trip depending on how far away is the target. Something like in Apex.
      • Ofc there will be a multiplicator, for example if you go from "tourist station" and going for other "tourist station," it would have better options than for example if you're going from tourist to extraction settlement (nobody wants to travel there).
      • Maximum number of passengers would be 1 cabin (it would be ordered in the same way as normal passenger missions, just set this passenger cabin for that reason).
        • Of course better cabins (first class etc) would have better price, but less customers.
        • You'll be able to take only one of this kind of mission at once (to prevent grind).
    • Barman actually do something related to bar
      • So not just buying electronics and stuff.
      • You would be able to get information from them
        • Barman: "I've heard there's a guy who wants to go for <stuff>, he's just there." -- and new temporary mission giver will occurs somewhere in the station.
        • Barmans actually can sell you stuff -- some could have even the special stuff. So you can buy (something), but in very limited fashion, something like a 5 of any goods by day or something. But you could buy ANYTHING.
        • Barmans would be a mission givers for data. Like "I've heard there are opinion polls <there and there>" So you can go there, download that, bring back to barman, he just DOWNLOADS A COPY, so the opinion polls would stay with you (and you can sell them as normal, if you want or whatever).
        • Basically barmans would send you to "collect missions" for stuff you need for engineering etc.
        • Now it is like "you give me 30 of this and I give you 10 of that." That's stupid. Just make it "You need 30 material, I need 30 of that material, just go there, bring that to me."
    • You can sit on benches
      • If you sit on the bench, it will open the "ship" menu (like in the ship) with engineers, galaxy news and stuff.
    • Somebody asks you to help with a task
      • Like for example NPC asks to "meet an agent" in the settlement, agent will do the work, you'll be a guard or something, just "npc leaded mission."
    • If you bring something from mission, you just gave it to somebody (metatheurgist)
      • Not just to terminal.
    • Dangerous liveforms
    • Hand mining
      • Now you can mine some stuff with an SRV, some stuff with a ship and nothing on foot. Why can't I pick up a rock on foot? (CardioTherapy)
    • Dynamic scenarios should be more utilized(BlackStork, fellow squadmate)
      • Defence, find sealthy saboteur, etc.
    • Stations and settlements should reflect more BGS states (BlackStork, fellow squadmate)
      • Goverment type, powerplay alignment, ...
    • Community Goals(BlackStork, fellow squadmate)
      • Create big, long term goal by utilising series of faction-specific (one in a time) CG-like events, and allow utilising PMFs territories/settlements - for bigger goal, expansion of civilisiation into the black - with series of events and use of unique per-economy, refreshing once in a week mats gathering from settlements (like powerplay) and normal materials allow PMF though year (for SSF size) expand civilisation into 500 ly radius from owned system, by exploring, building colony ships, helping colonists, create stations, etc etc till some system in the black becomes colonised just by efforts of MF, combined with specific superpower (and later having faint "flavor" and few more MFs in the system of the superpower which was helping expansion effort)
  • Gameplay changes
    • Guards can let you explain
      • No instant shooting, but if (reasonable) loot is with you, fine and no bounty, you can pay them "a fee," explain something to them (with random success rate depending on the reputation with a faction, same as with bartering for better price).
    • Zapping don't kill, just stun
      • Something like "Zakntkel" from Stargate, one shot stuns, second kills, third disassembles body.
    • No deleting of bodies
      • I kill somebody, I want his body to be there, not to be "lost" somewhere in time. (For the future scaning or something)
    • Bodies will appear on radar
      • So I will easier find them
    • Manipulation with bodies
      • You're able to hide bodies
        • With maverick suit you can "burry a body" if the body is on the sand or something, not in the buildings
        • You can drag a body (either like in Skyrim or like in Dishonored)
        • You may have a "hiding sheet" in inventory, so you can cover a body (you can have like 4 of those sheets). Other guards won't notice that until they stand REALLY close to that (just add some multiplier for guard noticing things)
    • You can hack the settlement antipersonell guns
      • Just modyfing the friend-or-foe settings for "all foes/disabled/normal"
      • But same as with the power regulator shut down, personel would instantly know where you are and swarm you near the console 🙃
    • Make data ports download times shorter
      • Okay, waiting for 60 seconds is okay, waiting for 400 is not.
    • Power play only in Open (Rebel Yell)
      • BGS works, ofc, but missions and PP related stuff available only in Open
    • CMDRs may salute each other (CMDR Hales)
      • Obviously available in open
    • Slower firerate sniper rifle with faster "bullets."
      • Meaning plasma is okay, but so slow and for sniper rifle totaly unusable.
    • Exobiology (Raliel)
      • You can harvest some stuff, craft a thing, for example if you harvest some stuff (another storage/inventory, yea), you can go to the science station and at those pods where you normally steal some products you can mix those things, wait a bit and create stuff. According to recipes, you can create Hush, Push, Lazarus, that stuff.
    • Weapon mods
      • Shoot & scan bounties (you shoot and scan bounties together)
      • Target position estimation with sniper rifle (where to shoot if somebody don't change a way he/she is walking you may hit, probably something like "a ghost figure" or something will suffice)
    • Ability to see other cmdrs tapping on consoles (BobiosJP, a squadmate)
      • Immersion :)
      • Ofc it would be problematic to see displays, but at least something. You're able to see ship controls when in camera mode, same here, basically.
    • Home base(BlackStork, fellow squadmate)
      • There should be some sense of ownership and home – per settlement reputation system which resets when settlement changes owner, to be member of lvl 3 and get special missions, BGS benefits.
    • Ability to play your own music (Based on CMDR MattKajtars list)
      • Just ability to add some folder in your PC with music or have a special folder for that, similar as in Euro Truck Simulator 2.
    • Ability to go out from the land station without SRV
      • Just go from the dock, not with "go to SRV => go on foot," but just straight to foot.
    • Settlements missions influences powerplay (danmaxis)

Second phase

  • Gameplay
    • Ship interiors (self explanatory) (Franc Kaos)
    • Station interiors (self explanatory) (Franc Kaos)
    • Supercruise tweaks (based on thread from NyanTurian, not all points I like, so just those I like)
      • Better autopilot like Apex, you can "program" the longer trip a few jumps ahead.
      • Top speed / Acceleration / Fuel economy triangle (you can chose one, the other two decrease, or none (vanilla))
        • Engineerable – those things would be chosen with Engineers at their workshops, similar as other things.
      • This autopilot module would be a normal module, so it has to have its slot, energy consumption etc.
    • Ability to hire SRV, if you don't have a ship (Loophole)
      • SRV garages
  • Universe
    • Caves (CardioTherapy)
      • Probably can't happening, because Odyssey is using a heatmap for generating terrain, so caves are "not possible," until they are some special sites (handcrafted or something).
      • Possibility of "dungeons" then.

This list is not complete, it's a list of things I just came up from top of the head. I hope you like at least some of those ideas, thank you for your time :)

I just find it weird that you take stuff from a place to a terminal in a station. You'd think at least you'd hand it off to somebody. It would make more sense to move stuff from one settlement to another. Also enjoying those missions that ask you to move biochemical agents and synthetic pathogens - "Hey, move this for me! Oh, all the guards in the settlement will kill you for trying...is something I should have mentioned."

That's one hell of a list OP, and i can pretty much guarantee that 90%* of that will never happen and the other 10% is also unlikely.

* These statistics were brought to you by the Office of Pulling Things out of my Orifice.

More of the stations to explore (including parks, down below (for black market stuff), trains to other area's - well, just check out SC for how to do walking in cities).
NPC's with AI and schedules
Engineers to have their own work area where they are doing stuff and have more lines of speak stuff
Integration of walking and spaceship (as in enter spaceship and sit on chair), leave chair, enter turbo lift to top of ladder / stairs / whatever for that Armstrong moment they completely fluffed up
No invisible rocks
Explorable crashed spaceships
Ground crew actually seen to be approaching my ship when I've landed
Landlegs in VR

More stuff for on foot exploration:
1. hand mining for certain rare minerals / biological substances
2. generated caves with different life forms found only in the caves.
3. dangerous life forms on planets or caves: release corrosive gas, electric pulse that drains shields and battery when approached. make the however rewarding by extracting valuable biological material from them.
4. ship interiors - a valuable new source of income for Frontier if they are customizable as the exteriors and even more.
5. on foot combat with thargoids
6. Awakening of some planetary guardian AI machines that had destroyed the guardians in first place only on atmospheric planets. Will further stimulate suits and ships upgrades and engineering and create additional danger for explorers, scanning research, collection of guardian components and so on.
7. More ground vehicles and new types of on foot combat / battlegrounds at larger scale.

emotes for commanders, is, I think sorely lacking, it would be nice to salute etc.
more depth to exobiology, including the extraction of useful drugs or chemical compounds.
the addition of Empire, Federation, and Alliance navy suit skins.
Guardian and Thargoid tech mods for suits and weapons (including suitable skins for such mods).
Base and settlement storage facilities for all the stuphs

Fantastic list - all things I would love to see, once the current fire-fighting is under control!

One other little thing I have noticed, and would love to see:

All of the major planetary pre-Odyssey planetary settlements where you could dock ships now include a Concourse for Odyssey players, but there is no way to go from the Concourse direct to the planetary surface, and if on foot in the settlement there is no way to access the Concourse area.

These settlements all have "SRV Garages" through which a docked ship can deploy its SRV, but there is no other way to get to or from the planetary surface. My suggestion would be to include a lift bank in each SRV garage, which will take an on-foot player to the Concourse area (and with the inverse option of players in the Concourse area having the option to take a lift to a (randomly selected or default) SRV garage area.

The ability for on-foot players to hire an SRV in absence of a ship, would also be a "cool thing:.

Logically these large and well-populated settlements should have multiple ground-level access points, and facilities such as suit-recharging points, scattered about. Some on-foot NPC population would be nice as well.

These large settlements are visually stunning, and walking around them is very impressive. It would be nice to see them better exploited as part of the Odyssey on-foot experience.

Thank you :)

Nice list!
It would give much life to settlements.

Mine suggestion would be to make settlement raids (those not in war state) part of the powerplay game, with undermining and merits gain.

Maybe, but I am not sure I follow completely, try to elaborate, pls :) (I am not much a powerplay cmdr)

Sure.
I'm far from a powerplay mastermind either, but I know some concepts.
When you want to diminish enemy presence on a system, you take down its security forces.
Currently, this applies to Guard ships (specific units to the ruling power) patrolling anywhere the system or POIs. You destroy them to lower defences and release control of the system. There is some kind of point that is used to how much defence a system still has, it's a bit complicated but it's cool (faction effort is usually rewarded). Then players gather around these points to war over systems.
This type of gameplay converted to Odyssey would be like raiding settlements with a chance for a pvp war .
