What ships do you have and why?

Exploraconda + Explorasp
iCourier (fun to fly and tough enough to survive any situation)
iEagle (fun to fly)
Fer de Lance (fun to fly when I'm feeling lazy)
Eagle (fun to fly and a challenge to stay alive in)
Orca...I dunno, I just bought one, haven't really used it. Like the look, hate the jump range.

I own quite a few ships but 90% of my time is spent in the Corvette. So much so I now have 2 of them.

In my opinion The best ships and which I keep are:

Eagle: because its the most like a tie fighter and you feel so much part of the ship in the Oculus Rift... just amazing.

Python: Best all round platform for a medium landing pad.

ASP: I have 2, one for local shopping and another I've rigged to do some exploring.. One day

Corvette 1: 128- 290 cargo bays depending on task: Gimballed 3c beam underneath, 2 x huge multi cannons and turreted pulse lasers. Excellent all-round ship. No NPC interdiction is a threat anymore so feel safe carrying engineering commodities for extended amounts of time. Engineered FSD Power and shields. Not keen on engineered weapons though.

Corvette 2: Similar setup to Corvette 1 except it has mining gear

Oh, I also have an Anaconda but I tend to use it to hold spare engineered components.

I will buy a Imperial Clipper soon, when I get around to ranking up.

Imperial Clipper
- Great fuel scoop, wonderfully smooth flying in space: not very good at the planetary thing however
- This is my explorer

Imperial Cutter
- More of a goal I wanted since started the game. It has no practical use at this time for trading save when the markets support Imperial Slave trade: comes and goes.

Type-9
- The only ship that can do everything for exploration you can still see out of properly.

Adder
- It's atmosphere

Python
- There's no other trade ship in the game so good at this

Haven't sold any ship bigger than an Asp (E).
I have my own system of classifying ships based on loadout, respect my stupidity.[wacky]

Scavengers: (Material Gatherer, all equip with SRV.)

  • S76 Pelican (Asp). Quick tasks
  • S77 (Python). Anything to do with outposts
  • S78 Northern Royal (Conda). Heavy Duty general purpose, has wake-scanner.
  • S79 Snow Wanderer (Cutter). Super-Heavy Duty miner, has multiple collector.
  • S80 Amsterdam (Vette). Heavy-Duty CZ material gatherer.

*S78 - S80 share same treatments :

  • [*=1]Bi-weave
    [*=1]G5 Reinforced Shield
    [*=1]G5 Heavy Duty Booster
    [*=1]G5 Resistance Augmented Booster
    [*=1]G5 OC Powerplant
    [*=1]G5 Long Range FSD

Entrepreneur: (Cargo)
  • E11 Southern Royal (Conda). 336T Sothis lorry, will turn into D11 (explorer)
  • E12 Gibson Wanderer (Cutter). 640T Sothis lorry.

Have all the ship except the 3 most expensive and T7.

But mostly flying my Cobra and an Asp. For some reason, smaller ships are the most fun to fly for me.

I have these, at the moment:

Imperial Eagle with enhanced drives- just fun to fly
Imperial Courier with enhanced drives - fun little ship to mess around in, and a decent mission ship
Cobra MkIII - a few engineer mods for FSD range and speed. It was fast before, now it's wicked fast
Asp Ex - just because you need one sometimes. Mine has a 41LY jump range, so decent for travelling. I use it mostly for planetary stuff, tip-offs, etc.
Python - heavily modded for running missions, long FSD range, powerful shields, overcharged weapons with corrosive, dirty drives, overcharged pp, better distributor, stuff like that. It's my go-to ship for doing missions that require outpost access. It's just so versatile, and modded up it's tough and fast too.
Anaconda - set up similar to my Python, with engineer mods to shields, fsd, powerplant, distributor, weapons - it's my workhorse, for making credits, but it still has teeth for interdictors.
Corvette - my newest ship, I just love it. It handles so nicely, and wow can it fight. I'm still getting used to it. I might even search out some combat in it. Maybe. It's modded shields are next to impenetrable, at least in PVE ;)

I'm debating getting a Cutter. I have the rank. I might get one, or save the cash for now and see what the Beluga is like. Not sure I want a passenger liner, but ya never know.

Vulture for combat, because it's so much fun to fly.

Federal Dropship as a trader, because that's the right ship for the frontier. Sturdy, heavy duty, can take a beating and can land everywhere. And it looks cool.

Sidewinder: I like that thing and nostalgia and it's the most effective (RoI) ship for missions.

But the most used ship is my Diamondback Explorer. It looks cool, it jumps 44lys, it got new rank5 dirty drives, it can carry enough cargo for a lot of missions and it incredible fun to fly if not in combat. It's my ship.

Corvette

Heavily modded battering ram, massive shields, massive armor designed to withstand multiple aggressors, 2 huge beams, 1 large MC and pulses with special effects (healing beam with wingman's corvette means we can stay in a haz res until the fuel runs low). Also has 128t cargo for odd missions.

Cutter

Queen of the traders, 720t, 469 m/c boost, decent shields and armor and able to defend herself (not that she has to since she can't be caught).

Anaconda

Luxury explorer capable of 53.7LY jumps, huge fuel scoop and multiple afmus/heatsinks.

Python

Smaller counterpart to the cutter, 453 m/s boost able to trade and do missions to smaller platforms.

Asp Explorer

Smaller more agile 47LY capable explorer.

I have:

10-12 Haulers, great space-taxis.
5-8 Eagles, for racing and combat.
3-4 Vipers, for racing, for combat and PvP.
2 Imperial Eagles, for racing,
2 Imperial Couries, for messing around.
1 Cobra, because it has a nice paintjob.
1 Python, for running missions.
1 Asp Explorer, for long range trading, dont use it anymore.
2 Federal Assault Ships. All-round combat vessels. This is what I fly most. 1 standard 1 engineered. This ship is so much fun to fly.
2 Fer De Lance. 1 for bounty hunting, one for PvP engineered.
2 Anacondas. 1 engineered with 55 LY jump range and a engineered Battleconda.

You can find me flying the FAS or Battleconda most.

Well when I first started ED I thought I was going to be a one ship kind of guy since I was used to space sim games where new/more expensive ships were a straightforward upgrade from your old ship. And in many ways once I make a decision to buy a new ship I do stick with that particular ship for most of the things that I do - I'm one of those people that used their Vulture for exploration :) But once I develope a history with a ship I don't sell it.

Sidewinder - My original starter ship, kept for nostalgia and for Sidewinder related events. Has one of the best cockpits in the game.

Adder - I love this ship.

Diamondback Scout - Very fun to fly.

Cobra III - The Millenium Falcon of ED. I spent a lot of time in this ship.

Imperial Eagle - For racing and the looks.

Vulture - Possibly my favourite ship to fly. Best engine noises in the entire game. If it was more multirole friendly then this ship would be my main choice but it's not flexible enough for various mission running.

Viper III - Used for challenge duels.

Asp - Used for long range trading/smuggling/exploring and generally getting around space quicker. I've also grown attached to it's looks somewhat.

Federal Assault Ship - My current go to ship for the majority of what I want to do (yes, even a little bit of exploring). It's a great multirole ship with teeth and quite satisfying to fly. Looks like a catfish crossed with a Tomcat jet :D

Fer de Lance - only D rated for now but planning on eventually moving into this ship as my main ship once I build enough creds to A rate her. The FDL is the ship I've wanted to use since before I even bought the game.

Python - All rounder - was my fav ship until I got the
Corvette - Fully A-rated and also a few mods anlready - My main battle cruiser
ASPx - used for Robigo runs (long range smuggling)
Anaconda - D-rated trader - used for Sothis/Ceos runs
Eagle - full on speed - for RIFT canyon rides

Asp explorer, non engineer modded and a couple mk3 cobra I use fer when I'm in the bubble and that's it fer me I'm afraid. I'm an explorer so have little need or desire to try anything else when I already have what I need.

Neglecting to engineer mod was a personal choice not to start grinding in the bubble fer materials...I have the option but not the interest and so it's a personal choice. Being in the bubble means I'm not doing what I want to do which is be out in the black, so engineers are a waste of time fer me...explorers been doing fine before they came alone and are continuing to do fine by avoiding them...I got loads of jumponium if I need it so I really don't miss having 40+ly range. I got 34ly range which ain't gonna break records or get me to BG as fast as others...but I'm not on my way to BG and I'm not in a race so what's the point?

I have the money to buy and outfit a python to a rate...but there's no shipyards out here to buy anything...inconvenient, and the bubble frustrates me and annoys me and I avoid it unless I have absolutely no choice. I tend not to stick around fer longer than a couple days at a time and quite frankly wouldn't even know where to start looking for stations that sell them ^^

I have the following ships:

Viper Mark IV, because it looks incredibly sexy in black and is a nice 'little' fighter. I think it is one of the best looking designs in the game.

Vulture, because every cmdr who loves combat needs a Vulture. Best in it's class.

FDL, because every cmdr who loves combat needs an FDL. Best in it's class. It also has the best sound scape of every ship in the game. It talks to you.

Python, because it is the single most versatile ship that can land on medium pads. It is perfect for missions, Powerplay and ranking and it can be turned into a good warship and is a superior medium trader.

Anaconda, just because I want one. It is a versatile large ship. Excellent trader, excellent long range explorer and excellent combat ship.

Imperial Cutter, because it is the best large bulk trader in the game and it has the sexiest rear end of every ship in the game. I still need to spend a few hundred million to A rate this one.

On my list to get:

Federal Assault Ship
Federal Corvette
I also will re-buy an Asp Explorer some day.
