What ships do you have and why?

Just an Asp ,i'm out in the black , if I want to do something else like mining or trading ,I sell it and get a ship for the job , I don't use Engineers as they have nothing at all I need.

Up to +50% jump range might suggest that they *do* have something you need, but... :)

Also, the 4 small multicannons and 2 medium lasers on my Asp weigh a grand total of 4.43 tons (as opposed to 16 tons) due to engineered upgrades for lightweight materials.

ASP Explorer for distanced stuff (engineered with 47ly jump) - recently taken to Jaques and (almost) back
A rated Python for bubble shenanigans.

Imperial Star Destroyer - capable of launching 72 TIE fighters, excellent jump range, 3 Stormtrooper battalions, 1 AT&T assault force, 1 wing of Lambda-class shuttles, and a full array of heavy turbolasers and ion cannons.
Still managed to fail fighting against a bunch of LED stick[hehe]

Cutter- does everything in the bubble well. Completely engineered. The Sevite Sensation fears nothing, and does as it please.

And... I have a Asp because Palin is a princess....

Corvette 1:main ship. Heavy combat role
Corvette 2: built for new bubble. Currently en route. Faster/lighter variant
Anaconda: exploration and high jump interbubble shuttle
Python: missions/smuggling
Fdl: fast attack fun ship
Cobra: who doesnt keep one for s&g's
Cutter: trading/mining

Just 2 because I'm still poor:
AspX for long range trade runs
Vulture for short range shooting at things with a couple of mates

After seeing some of your lists I feel like starting a "How did you make all those credits?" thread...

Sothis/Ceos
AspE, Python, Conda, Cutter.

/thread

Vulture for bountyhunting
Asp Explorer
Python for missions / trading
FDS for mining
T6 for sentimental reasons, as it made me my first 100mcr

I share a couple of LVL5 modded components between my ships because I'm lazy :D

Python for general use, especially cargo missions.

Imperial Courier kitted with scanners and and a buggy. No cargo capacity to speak of and no guns, but I've uprated the engines and the fsd some. Not the fastest ship in the game but fast enough for me.

Corvette. Still being worked on. It's flyable but it's only a C grade powerplant. I intend getting an A of course, but those things cost almost as much as the ship so It'll be a while.

Sidewinder: My first ship. I'll never sell that little        . Almost killed a Python with it last night, but I didn't have enough ammunition to finish the job.

Hauler: Just for messing around. Stripped it down and added enhanced thrusters. Wheeeeeeeeeeee! Bought one more or less out of nostalgia, as the jump from Sidewinder to Hauler was the best feeling ever.

Imperial Eagle: Found out this was the fastest thing I could get, so I had to have one. I still fight in it from time to time, but mostly just use it to speed around stations like a madman.

Viper Mk III: Just bought it to try out. For combat ships, I went from Sidewinder--->DBS--->Imperial Eagle--->Vulture, so I never tried the Cobra or Viper lines. Not a fan of it.

Diamondback Scout: Another one I bought just to have again. It was the first proper fighting ship I purchased. Still as awesome as I remember, now that I'm accurate enough to use Plasma accelerators. Looks cool too.

Vulture: For kickin' ass and takin' names. I've made most of my money in this ship, although it is likely to change soon. It's been stripped down and mothballed. I keep it just 'cause.

Diamondback Explorer: For explorin'. Shame about that lack of internal compartments... Pretty much just sits in the hangar. Took it to visit Jaques, so I'm all sentimental about it.

Type 6: My everything-but-combat ship. I trade, explore, and even mine with it if I'm really desperate for something to do. My favorite ship in the entire game. Took it all the way to the core.

FDL: Another dedicated combat ship. Also stripped down and mothballed, as the FAS has taken over as my main combat ship. Can't decide whether or not I want to sell it.

FAS: For blowing things up real good.

'Conda: Trade purposes only. Mined with it once just to be silly. Maybe I'll use it to explore someday.

Type 9: Bought it simply because I had the money, and had always wanted one. Have it set up for mining, just 'cause. Cargo space is lacking because I'm running class 8 shields lol. Got a few kills with the turreted beams awhile ago.

Vulture - My current combat focused vessel that takes forever to go to new systems but will comfortably trade death!
T-6 imo one of the best pure trade vessels in the game, if only it could carry more as I don't want to sacrifice its speed for a coffin.
Asp Explorer for errr..exploring..

This might take a while since I have so many:

4 Cobra MK III: 1 is my main ship, I love her to death, setup for combat but I use it as a mission runner and roleplay. 1 purely as a smuggling ship, stripped down to save weight crap shields and all cargo. 1 for canyon running in Alliance space, setup the same as the smuggler Cobra cause every thinks it can't turn well enough to canyon run that's why I got it to prove them wrong. The last 1 I got cause I was 280 LYs away from my main Cobra so I bought it to save time. Has no purpose atm but I can't sell a Cobra. No other ship matters really.

Sidewinder: My first ship, she helped me get to the point to buy the Cobra so naturally I love her for it. That and she is still one of my top 5 ships in elite.

Adder: Bought at first to me a miner, is now my explorer. I have a long term goal to get that ship to the galactic rim. I know the Asp is a better ship for that but I want to try with the Adder. It's that ship or I'm not leaving the bubble.

2 Imperial Eagles: 1 for basking, the other for basking in Alliance space :p

Hauler: Taxi, also roleplay reasons.

Imperial Courier: My PVP ship. Railguns all day baby :D

Imperial Clipper: Used to be my main combat ship. Has no purpose atm other than basking.

Python: My second favorite ship, second only to my beloved Cobra MK III. She's my main combat ship now. It's just a bigger Cobra.

Orca: I fell in love with it cause it's so fast, makes whale sounds and I can use it as a smuggler. The one thing it's can't do well is fight, unless you count ramming as fighting but I ram things in every ship I own.

Viper MK IV: Mini Python. Use it as a cheap Combat ship that I can afford to get blown up. Granted that's only happened twice, once from friendly fire :p

Type 6: Miner, I recently went blind in 1 eye due to a car crash so sometimes I need to chill to regain my focus. Easiest way to do that and still be playing is mining so T6.

Keelback: Ummm.... 2.2 might save this ship but right now it's just a flying coffin. I'm good in a fight, damn good, but I can't survive in that thing if my life depended on it. Chances are high I won't be keeping it once I hit my goal of owning a Cutter.

Flying a Multi-role Combra MK III that I use for everything. The only other ship I have is a forgotten Eagle somewhere far away from where I'm at. with only 2mill in the bank can't really afford a second ship.

I'm playing non-combat, none of my ships have weapons. I've always played mostly as a miner, never caring about doing trading.

Well, I sold my Python miner (I was feeling like I never left it!) and am going to spend the time until 2.2 releases getting to know trading. Using all in-game route data, looking around for some good earning 1 or 2 jump routes. It's a nice change of pace until Passenger play arrives.

Cobra Mk3 - A rated core modules, 16 tons cargo, 4A fuel scoop, SRV hanger, Collector Limpet Controller, ADS. My favorite, runs data and small cargo missions, drops into USS, runs fast when shooting starts.

The Cobra Mk3 is so fun to fly, and the cockpit is fun, even if visibility is a bit limited. One of my all-time favorites. It also wears a custom paint job.

Type-9 - Low mass focus build. Fitted with a 7C shield generator for optimal mass defenses, plus 3X 0A engineered boosters, giving 450MJ shields. When fitted with either a 2A or 4A SCB and heat sinks, it's good for 384 to 400 tons of cargo.

While bested as a hauler by several ships these days, as above with the Cobra, the Type-9 is fun to fly in it's own way. I love the heavy feel, as though that 1,746 tons of hull, fuel, and cargo are really back there. Nice little exterior details, and a great view from the cockpit. Also getting fighter support in 2.2! I may give this a try as a miner down the road, as I've grown to like it more than the Anaconda I sold last year.

Orca - Sitting in the hanger new and ready to go in 2.2, A rated core modules. Really a beauty of a ship, inside and out. Can't wait to outfit those cabins!

I also have an Asp Explorer and Imperial Eagle, both sitting waiting to be sold. Just haven't got around to it yet. The iEagle was for fun with speed, and Asp was used briefly for reaching an outpost.

Cobra, T6, python, annie, corvette and a couple of asps, one A spec and one stripped down for exoloration. Oh and a FAS...

Just because I can!

Eagle that was part of the mercenary edition. Never too k it out so it might have a lot of dust on it.

Viper mk IV that frontier gave to people taking part on the last Christmas CG. Never went to get it.

Vulture for combat

Clipper because its nice ship but haven't used it in last 10 months.

Asp explorer. Good jump range and i use it to gather materials and do missions.

Python for missions and doing little more challenging stuff what asp can't do.

Anaconda for trading, cg etc.

I have rank for corvette and working for rank to get cutter.

Eagle:

For low level flights on planets, canyons, some bounty hunting

Cobra MKIII:

Cause it's fast and good for smuggling, trading missions, some bounty hunting

FDL:

Fast and good shield + weapons, I use it for combat, bounty hunting and assassination missions

ASP:

For trading and exploring, good cargo and decent speed, fuel tank is big enough for doing many jumps without the need of refuelling

I would like to buy a Federal Corvette later, however I'm not in a rush

Every ship that isn't a trade ship. Why? I am a completionist and the challenge of maxing every combat-worthy ship in the game was a goal I made for myself. They are all maxed.
