What ships do you have and why?

Been playing a while now, haven't done any long range smuggle missions, nor have I upgraded anything on these ships with the engineers. These are all the ships I've used and I've kept them all (except the starter sidey).

Hauler - First ship I ran a lot of missions in. I think I spent at least a month or two using this while I got used to how elite works. Cockpit feels very cosy at this point and I would keep using it if I could separate the optional modules up into more sections. Also the only ship I've bought a paint job for :D

Eagle - Baby's first combat ship and just feels so great to fly. Amazing handling.

Cobra III - Don't have to say much about this.. Great smuggler and planet scouter, sweet all rounder.

Cobra IV - My current ship. It's nice, I like it a lot more than I thought I was going to. Feels familiar to me, like the hauler but it actually has great internal modules and very nice hard point placements. Can take a bit of a beating if you fit some hull reinforcement packages too! Your not gonna just disappear from enemies like in the mk 3.

Diamondback Scout - Lovely little ship, I used it a lot for smuggling with silent running. Nice handling, hard points etc, cockpit looks great. Nice little specialised combat scouter.

Diamondback Explorer - Well, I used this ship for a long time before jumping back in the smaller ones once I got killed next to Jaques. I couldn't stand to sit in it for some time. Really nice ship. Love how it looks but I feel like the internals really let this one down. It's great for jump range and not much else at all.

I've tried to modify a few of my ships but keep getting killed by cmdrs before I arrive at the engineer stations. I just want to see what mats they ask for you lunatics! Lol at least it doesn't seem too important. I think the cobra mk4 could really do with a speed upgrade though and it would be good to go.

Imperial Cutter
My Main Vessel, lightly modded, 640t Cargo. This is my main Credit maker. As i am allready relativly high ranked, i did put a SCB on it, as well as a small fuel scoop to extend its range and a docking computer because i am lazy when doing trade runs.

Anaconda
42Ly Jumprange, with everything u need as an explorer, inculding shields and some defense weapons. It has a very nice Class 4 FSD Upgrade on it, SRVs, AFMUs, class 7C fuel scoop, well, u get the picture.

Federal Corvette
When i feel like doing some bounty hunting. Class 5 FSD Upgrade grants me 16LY+ Jumprange with Military Armor and everything i need to use it a multipurpose ship as well, when i feel like.

Python
There is no alternative for mission running. Very versatile ship and currently the best multipurpose ship. If i could only have one single ship, it would be the Python.

Orca
Because i have the money and like the looks of it. I also still have at least some hope that it might get buffed at some point. It needs at least another fully usable class 6 slot and maybee another class 2 as well as a bigger fuel tank. Currently it sits around most of the time as it simply doesnt have any advantages compared to other ships, but i like taking it out for a spin once in a while.

(Sirona) - Anaconda, I built her for navigating the black using a low thermal build and a very high jump range (57.33LY max). At the cost of no boost and only 16 tonnes total fuel, it provides a nice challenge and she hasn't let me down so far. :p

(Ariel) - Imperial Eagle, Every time I jump in it to sell it, I just can't. Pretty sure it's something to do with the way it looks and feels... damn fun to fight with though.

There is also a second Anaconda in storage but it is only ever used for storing engineer modified internals so I don't really count it as a ship. Helps when swapping from long range explorer to heavily armed bubble explorer.

Sidewinder
My first ship, never sold it. Outfitted with enhanced thrusters and railguns for maximum fun

Viper mkIII
Got a whole bunch of those actually, I use them to store a bunch of pack hound racks so they're all E rank because I never fly them. Module storage can't come soon enough

Viper mkIV
Small ship I bough because it's sexy. Outclassed by everything else in the price range though.

Cobra mkIII
Bought as a joke. A-fitted but never flown it.

Diamondback scout
My first real combat ship after I sold my Eagle, I used to do a lot of PVE bounty farming with it but I've refitted it with railguns and pack hounds for PVP. It's fast, agile, keeps a cool head and packs a better punch than the viper because 4 utility slots, better distributor and internals. Filled with HRPs and SCBs. Can silent run in a pinch.

Asp Explorer
For honking systems left and right.

FDS
"I really hope military passenger missions will involve dropping soldiers in the middle of an active ground based war zone and then provide fire support"

FAS
REMOVE EMPIRE REMOVE EMPIRE YOU ARE THE WORST FACTION AND YOU SMELL

FGS
MULTICANNON ON EVERY HARDPOIN

Corvette
After donating 200M to the Federation, I was able to spend another 200M to buy the bare hull. Then I sold my battleconda and swapped the stuff around for probably the cheapest A rank build ever. After fitting it with two 7A SCBs I was up 30M. Point and click to delete enemy. Fun to wave my space       about. Partially engineered. Runs rings around wings of anacondas and will melt vultures in seconds

Vulture
PVE fighter that I don't use anymore. Might engineer that thing next

Anaconda
Trader and smuggler with modded FSD, power plant, thrusters and weapons for maximumn range, heat efficiency and weight reduction. This bad boy made me Elite trader. Still has teeth because slapping elite assault ships in the face is fun.

Imperial Courier
HIGHWAYYYYY TOOOO THE DANGER ZONE

All my ships are A-fitted or better (i.e. engineered) unless specified otherwise. I spend most of my time in my corvette because it's comfy as hell, especially with the jump range and thrusters I got thanks to Farseer. Next on my list are to engineer the hell out of a Python, buy an doutfit a mining T9 for armor lady and get a ramOrca for piracy

Corvette -- Anaconda -- Python -- Asp . Impe. Clipper.

Those are my first's choice ships.

Occasionaly, I mess with Fdl, Courier, Imp Eagle and FGS.

Cutter when I need to trade.

Imp. Clipper - It's my favourite ship

Imp. Courier - It's my second favourite ship

Fer-de-Lance - For targets the Clipper can't handle

I've got some assorted other ships knocking around that I've never got around to selling, but those three are my main ships and the only ones I'll bother upgrading.

This is my ship list, none of which are engineer modified in any way.

  1. Adder - This is the ship I took to Planet Wilson and is kept mainly for that reason.
  2. Imperial Eagle - I wanted a light pure combat ship and couldn't get a build I was at ease with onto the Eagle but this was a joy from the start, I love taking it through an ice ring but it is not just for fun I have gone into CZs and survived.
  3. Fer de Lance - I was spending too much time repairing rather than fighting so I decided to try a heavy fighter, after failing to enjoy the Vulture I eventually got enough money for my FdL, wafting along in a High RES waiting for that FAS to turn away in disgust at my lack of cargo, pushing the throttle forward and closing to point blank range of his stern, then draining almost to the point of overheating my class 4 gimballed beam into him whilst the turreted pulse lasers and multi-cannons open up, then switching from 3-3 to 4-2 pips settle down to finishing him off or if it was something less tough getting ready to swerve round the explosion, don't want to damage the gold paint.
  4. Python - The newest of my squadron and currently configured as a 218 ton trader, so far so good has lost to a player Cutter (bully) but its mines have done for a FAS and 2 Vultures.

I have previously kept my solid armoured Cobra mkIII and an Asp Explorer, the Cobra went a while ago (I decide it was just too easy to replace) while the Asp which I had been using for everything before getting the FdL went to finance the Python. I have flown other ships as taxis etc. but apart from maybe getting an Asp again none have been keepers. Where next I am not sure possibly see if I can tweak things as I want with the engineers.

Cobra and Viper - For skimmer missions

Asp - For exploration and material gathering since it has 45Ly jump range

Python and FDL - No idea why I'm still keeping both of these

Type 7 - Mining

Anaconda - For material gathering as well since it has 49Ly jump range and for trading

Federal Corvette - De facto ship for me as it's fully modded with all sorts of G4 and G5 mods

Primary Ship is my Multi Purpose Python
She's modded, with lvl5 FSD range, and DD3 (soon to be 5). Plus a load of other stuff.
I use her for literally everything.
Almost made my FDL obsolete.

Speaking of FDL, I own one of these too, pure PvE combat, but rarely leaves the dock these days. If a combat CG pops up near where its stored, I'll take it out, but i mostly just stick with my Python.

I also have an Anaconda.
I dont use it. Lol
But I'll keep her for any decent trading or mining CGs.

And an Asp, that I also don't use.
I may sell it. Never liked it to be honest.

Plus a handful of smaller ships dotted about. Mostly old bookmarks. Lol

See my Signature

Some ships I have for module storage - Vulture, T6
Some ships I have because they are fun to fly - Cobra III, Courier, Imperial Eagle
Some ships I have because they fulfill a Particular Mission
Corvette - Combat
Anaconda - Trading
Python - Missions on outposts and mining
FDL - PVP ship, work in progress. Needs more Engineer Mods.
ASP - Exploration and missions on the edge of the bubble.

Other ships have been mothballed and kept because I had such a great time flying them, but no longer need them. I could sell them, but I do not need the money

Some ships are there just for the Collector value - Sidewinder, Cobra 4, Asp Scout, DBS, DBE

You may notice that some ships are missing from my Collection. They will be added after 2.2, once ship transport is in place.

At the moment:

Sidewinder - Because it's a Sidewinder
Cobra MkIII - Smuggling build, huge fun
Cobra MkIV - Surface salvage/search & rescue and local exploration. SRV bay, 48 tons of cargo space, ADS and DDS, amazingly versatile little ship
Imperial Courier - for looking awesome in and making me smile every time I launch - probably my favourite ship to just fly in the game
Vulture - Res site earner
FDL - Res sites and CZs
FAS - General mission running ship for when I'm working on faction rep, can carry cargo, is agile and well-armed enough to fght, does the lot
Python - dedicated mining build, probably the most efficient money-making ship I own
Asp Explorer - Smuggling build for larger cargo/longer trips than I want to use the Cobra for. Yes, it's my old Robigo runner.
Asp Explorer - Dedicated exploration build, used when I'm going to be doing lots of planetary exploration due to the fantastic view from the cockpit
Anaconda - Dedicated exploration build, 4 SRVs, 2 x 6A AFMUs, 50 LY jump range, the works - still being engineered to even greater efficiency
Type 9 - Cargo hauling. What else am I going to use it for.

Also a Viper MkIII and a Type 6, both of which were built at Jaques and are currently parked there awaiting my eventual return.

Still going to buy an Orca one day just because they're gorgeous and I already have my eye on a Beluga.

Imperial Star Destroyer - capable of launching 72 TIE fighters, excellent jump range, 3 Stormtrooper battalions, 1 AT&T assault force, 1 wing of Lambda-class shuttles, and a full array of heavy turbolasers and ion cannons.

2. The dakka-dakka special, An A grade viper armed with multi-cannons. great when your target has no shields......... not so great when they do [blah]
3. The long jump Asp: explorer grade Asp explorer, can jump 42 ly in a single bound.... can be taken out by a single plasma shot :O
4. The "I'm not carrying anything illegal honest officer" Asp. A grade asp.... I think its name gives the game away. [yesnod]
5. The Python, A grade combat ready python , heavily engineered and capable of giving anyone a bad day... especially when I've been flying #4 and had a bad day.
6. The mining anaconda, better known as "It bloody does fit through the slot"

Bill

Asp Explorer "DSEV Cayetano Valdés" - Deep Space Exploration Vessel with a bite. Modified for range.

Imperial Courier "Black Ferret" - fitted for tracking, hunting and scouting. Modified for speed and range.
Imperial Eagle "Fast Eddie" - fitted for fun, racing and stunt flying. Painted black and modified for speed, speed and speed.

Modded Sidewinder (for nostalgia and fast fighter ship shenanigans)

Enhanced performance drives modded to grade 3 dirty drive tuning (368 top / 545 boost)
FSD modded to grade 4 long range (21 LY)
Two class 1 burst lasers

Heavily modded Python (as my everyday ship - it does everything I need in the game)

Drives modded to grade 3 dirty drive tuning (315 top / 410 boost)
FSD modded to grade 4 long range (25 LY)
Armour 1205
Shield strength 779
192 cargo
Two class 3 pulse lasers

And that's it - keeping it simple. No other ships needed!
