What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Hello guys! Im on a really tight budget, would this joystick be ok for Elite: Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Precision Fightstick? At the moment i have an Xbox 360 controller and an old Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick should i stick with those or attempt for something a bit better?

I flew most of my years in Allegiance with the Force Feedback version of that stick and liked it a lot. For my taste the springs in the non FF version are too tight, and it lasts about 2 - 3 years in heavy use (playing most days for at least an hour). Hat and button placements are very good.

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for Oolite - it is a good 'stick, but I ain't too sure how durable it will be. It does have a nice weighty base, and oodles of buttons, for a budget 'stick though. It depends how much you can get it for, I suppose - I got mine for £19.99, which was a very good price (I am also on a really tight budget).

As for the thread's question, I'll be using that 'stick and a keyboard.

Ive just ordered a Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS.

Ive always used my Saitek Cyborg 3D in the X games but this game deserves a little more ;)

Also using a TrackIR4.

I'm now in the early days of using my new X55 Rhino Hotas with the Premium Beta Alpha build 1.1.

I've unplugged the throttle and am just using the joystick.

Bit of an upgrade from the old Logitech pro joystick I was using - a lot more programmability.......unfortunately the X55 joysticks base keep bloody moving around, so I've taped it down onto the desk as a work around.

I'm looking forwards to getting a latter build that supports two controller imput. Guess that I'm going to be waiting another month. oh well.

Come July, this will be me:

I don't disagree with this, but one advantage of the x52/52Pro is that it's only one usb connection. I have several games that can only use one input besides keyboard and mouse (Alpha 1.1 of Elite Dangerous is a good example). So to use the CH and or Thrustmaster systems, you need 3rd party software to use them all.

So the X55 Rhino has a problem then? Because I understood it uses separate USB?

And what 3d part software are you talking about?
One would expect the peripheral designers to take care of that themselves.

I've just found a way to have lateral thrust and yaw on my 360 pad! I never touch the keyboard now (though we are missing many functions). Yaw is done by clicking left and right thumb sticks while using oculus rift to look around.

Unfortunately this is not possible to do in Saitek software. Such 3rd party software as e.g. UJR via vJoy.

I'll be using the logitech extreme 3d pro with my right hand and probably left hand on the keyboard. I've been able to play Freespace pretty well with this setup, so I assume I'll do okay at Elite

It's a budget solution. I would totally get an x52 but I don't have $100 to drop on a peripheral.

I'll be taking my Saitek x55 Rhino Hotas back today to the supplier.

I purchased two Saitek x55 Rhino's yesterday - one for my brother and one for myself - turns out mines a dud.

The tensioner on the throttle isn't working properly. It doesn't adjust to allow a light touch to move the throttle, it's extremely tight, and the isn't working - it came loose at one stage - was just turning and making a clicking noise. Plus it's also pushing the two throttles out of square somehow at the top when they're locked together.

There a Youtube review that I've watched that shows the throttle 'falling' when the joystick is held up. That's no chance of happening with mine with how tight it is. You're basically pushing the whole unit forward trying to apply the throttle, is how tight I'm talking about here.....

Also having the second Saitek x55 allows for a direct comparison showing how it SHOULD be working.

So back to the shop it's going first thing this morning. Fingers crossed that they'll swap it directly for another unit - if they have one in stock - they only had three in stock when we purchase two of them lol.

Hi, just got an x52 pro which is far more advanced than anything I've ever used before. I'm struggling to get an overall picture of what does what - there doesn't seem to be a straightforward diagram linking buttons to controls. Any ideas? I don't want to get into reprogramming it which I understand takes more skill/knowledge than I've got at present.

Check this post in another thread. There is a diagram of the key mapping:
